Description
Save the world in this new gravity defying run-and-gun platformer!
In the near future, Earth's scientists have unwittingly opened a portal to another dimension. Terrifying monsters from another realm have poured into our world, and humankind has fled the planet in fear. Enter Shockbot, an advanced combat automaton, beamed down to our planet to eliminate the alien infestation.
In Shockbot, you'll travel through monster-infested forests, foreboding caves, an industrial wasteland, and a dreamy cyberpunk skyline, using your trusty blaster and your high powered Shock Attack to reclaim the planet for its rightful inhabitants.
At the apex of your journey, you'll face down the menacing Ultramech, in an epic boss battle for the fate of the world!
Droid Gamers says, "Shockbot looks like a solid, inventive, gloriously extreme, and intelligently modernized take on 2D arcade shooters of yore." So what are you waiting for? Play it here today!
How to Play
* A/Left Arrow moves left.
* D/Right Arrow moves right.
* W or Up Arrow aims up.
* S or Down Arrow crouches.
* Enter/Z/K shoots.
* Space bar/J/X to jump.
* P/Escape pauses the game.
* L or C deploys Shock Attack.
You charge your Shockmeter by destroying enemies, and collecting the Shock Cores left behind. When your Shockmeter is full, you can perform a Shock Attack, which destroys all the enemies on screen for a 3x score bonus.
Developer Updates
The latest update removes the Haste power-up on the first level, as per player feedback. Also fixed a bug where high scores were calculated incorrectly after finishing the campaign.

Why does every dev need to reinvent the control scheme? These controls make it almost unplayable for me.
Seriously, WASD and arrows for movement, JKL and ZXC (or something close to it) for actions.
Updated the controls based on your feedback. Thanks!

Vote this game up, please. I haven't run into many game devs who engage this well with the clientele.
Thank you for your support!

You don't usually get the space jump that early...
That's fair. I wanted to reward the player for being more explorative as opposed to speed running through the level, but maybe I could have paced the introduction a bit better. I expect some players to miss it on their first run, and no area in the first level is ability-gated by double jump (that comes a bit later), but having double jump early does help you power through it a bit faster. In retrospect, it might have been better to have ability power-ups be more persistent like in a true Metroidvania, but Shockbot is level-based so I decided to just have the ability reset for every level.

What eoyount said was a good idea. I would go with the following changes:
- Allow for left and right handed configurations
- WASD, J - Jump, K - Fire, L - Shock
- Arrow keys, X - Jump, Z - Fire, C - Shock
- Escape Key as well as P for pause menu
- Display controls in pause menu
I tried W for jump and I for look up with J as fire for a bit and that seemed pretty good, but there wasn't an opposite hand equivalent that worked well. Also because of double jump requiring not direction, but action (two in this case), I think jump on the other hand opposite movement makes sense.
Thanks DaEdibleNapkin! I'll take these suggestions into account, and have left and right handed configurations in the next build. Edit: Updated the controls based on your feedback. Hope you enjoy!
