Under rating threshold (show) I love the game,a bit short,on its own way,a bit of comedy there and there...But i just didnt understood something...If Faith is God's Daughter, she is connected to God's meta-counsciounness,or to Stan's?She's an human too, right? And also...on the phrase "and make a blind leap of faith after Faith."-two times the word Faith...perhaps for comedy but fine. Also i was expecting loooonger endings but fine.THIS GAME IS AWESOME! Yet,a 5/5 rating,a favorite, and its also on ,my playlist.

+ - !

(4)

Developer response from greg

Faith is not human (she doesn't age), so she connects to God's metaconsciousness and not Stan's (Stan mentions this in the corn people ending path). And that double use of "faith" was intentional but I agree it's kind of awkward. The character Faith is intended to be a somewhat metaphorical representation of religion's effects on society (she's partially blind, she's holding humans back by suppressing knowledge, she claims to be good but she's actually kind of evil, she's guided by God on a "holy war" of sorts, she uses psychedelics to achieve spiritual experiences, she's deceptive, etc.).

Under rating threshold (show) Hmm,I would love a sequel and a prequel also.A prequel to discover what our fictional avatar did,but also a multiple choice game. And a sequel, where we should choose the endings where our avatar didnt' die,soo we could keep up the story.LOVED THIS GAME!And I also learned a new thing:When you find a girl with pink hair,a eyepatch, and she's on drugs, and also has more curves on her body than a race track,do what she says, because she is an cold-hearted assasin!Or...kill her....

+ - !

(5)

Developer response from greg

Thanks for the comment! I actually wanted to leave the backstory for the "you" character vague because I wanted it to be applicable to everyone, aside from past lives. I don't even give this character a gender, which makes a few sentences here and there kind of awkward. I am working on a non-interactive sequel, though!

+ - !

(4)

Developer response from greg

Hey, what a coincidence, I had an existential crisis while writing it! But now I understand that we're living in a holographically projected universe manifested by a single infinite consciousness of which we are each experiencing our own unique subjective fragments. It seems so obvious now! (Check the in-game "Author's Bio" link on the main menu for the long-but-no-less-crazy version of this.)

Under rating threshold (show) 24 of 25 endings. I'm so annoyed I can't find the last one lol! Wish I had written the ending numbers down as I went along. It would be really cool if there was n in game tracker besides the number up top so I could see which one I was missing and perhaps a clue on how to get it.

+ - !

(9)

Go to the main menu and click the "endings" button on the right side. This will list the ones you've found by number. If you whisper me the one you're missing, I can give you a hint! :)

Under rating threshold (show) 25 endings, and I must have clicked about two-hundred times? Man, this is too long. I'm not saying it's bad, but you need a good hour or so spare to read it all to actually enjoy it.

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from greg

Yeah, that's what happens when you try to cram an entire novel into a format like this! I think stories that are originally written for the format work better as games (like "Air Pressure," "A Duck Has an Adventure" and "'Til Cows Tear Us Apart"). So yeah, your criticism is totally fair.

Under rating threshold (show) Very good game. Enjoyed the references to Thousand dollar soul (another great game, although not quite as entertaining or insightful as this one). It was a lot of fun having to question the nature of morality and the morality of the characters themselves. The game makes you wonder about its own accuracy, makes you think if people really are as evil as is said in the game and more importantly, if so, is that a bad thing? Bunnies who won't so much harm a blade of grass is all well and good, but did you not find the fight scenes far more interesting? Of all the philosophical games I've played, this one may raise the most important question I've seen to date: Is evil really so bad?

+ - !

(3)

Developer response from greg

Thanks for the comment -- you definitely got what I was going for here! All of the characters in the story are evil in their own unique ways, just like everyone in the real world. But if everything is evil, is anything at all really evil? Throw the word around too much and it loses all meaning, and it's just a matter of perspective anyway. If "evil" animals hadn't eaten each other to survive and evolve for a few billion years, we humans wouldn't be alive today!

Under rating threshold (show) It would not have been possible for me to write this without the inspirational influence of Terry Pratchett. When I first stumbled across the quote that's now in the loading screen, I hadn't even started writing this draft yet, but it just fit so perfectly with what I wanted to say that I knew I had to open with it. I even decided to add an otter character to the story purely because of that quote. RIP, Terry Pratchett -- you may be gone today, but your impact on this world will never be lost.

Under rating threshold (show) If I were to sum up this game in a blurb you could quote me on when making a teaser trailer for it I'd say, "It's like Thousand Dollar Soul with 100% less future self rape and references to Creed". In all honesty though, I like this a lot more than TDS. This game is a lot funnier and takes everything a lot less seriously than its predecessor. That isn't to say I didn't like TDS, I just think the comedy did better here than the drama of the former. I really dug the UI and I honestly kind of want to hail you as a patron saint of CYOA game design for letting me go back to previous choices. All you would need is a giant map a la A Duck Has An Adventure that shows you where the branches of plot are and the UI would be perfect. After all of this, I can safely say that I await any games you make in the future with bated breath.

+ - !

(7)

Developer response from greg

Thanks for the comment! I don't have any future games planned, but I am working on a non-interactive linear novel that'll be a sequel to both TDS and God's Assassin (probably a few years away from being finished, though). Also, I should mention that any Creed references in TDS were 100% accidental; I don't really know anything about Creed... (They're a band, right?)

+ - !

(4)

Developer response from greg

That is the intended message of the quiz, actually -- that you are being judged by a completely unreasonable standard. It's inspired by the "everyone's a sinner" theme of Christianity. The bigger message here, though, is that when words like "evil" are used so liberally, they cease having any real meaning.

Nath101

Sep. 07, 2014

Under rating threshold (show) I expected a few other things to happen in addition to that. For instance, Stan's connection to the player is not developed, I first thought that we would be his son (or something like that), but it seems that we're just a simple human in which Stan has taken a liking (probably due to the piloting/math skills + the prior lives alliances). Plus, as someone already mentioned, the endings are not as "final" as in TDS. I know it allowed to be less repetitive, but some of them just leave us wondering "What now?". Not a real problem for me since I see the game as a whole, but still. Slight bug I found though, my endings tend to reset. Happened twice, both times when I had them all. That led to me doing the whole game again just to be able to read the endings screen. Oh, and I really like the beginning of the story, though it was classic. Always liked the short stories "Button, Button" and "The Bewitched Jacket", and this was quite reminiscent of it. (2/2)

Under rating threshold (show) There are too many things to love in that fiction... Here's a non-exhaustive list! (I'll probably spoil a little, go back to playing if you see this before completing the game!) The subtle references to TDS. All the Jesus references. Melvin is a racist prick. The fact that the universe is (as always with greg) really well thought through. The universe(s), mankind, and everything that happened during the other timelines (rabbits anyone?) is taken into account. I was especially glad to have the right answer when doing math with Stan, as it was one of the last endings I saw. Math is power! The fact that, all things considered, Stan is not as much as a scumbag as God is. God being not as godly as we'd expect (appearance, weather & bookshelf come to mind). Stan being surprised about how things go in the 1st ending (in a "I didn't plan any of this... But I like it!" way) Anyway, greg delivers! (1/2)

Under rating threshold (show) I was huge fan of TDS. I haven't remove it soundtracks from my phone since I had played it 2/3 years ago. From time to time I was randomly checking greg's profile with hope that the day of promised sequel will come. And what? I'm not disapointed! It's a fantastic idea to involve reader into story. Decision of adding drawn characters instead of describing them allowed author to focus on story telling. However, I'm so sad that the whole story is too short and musicians haven't published their OST yet. I hope, that the sequel to TDS&GA which greg metioned in his bio will be as good as these 2 magnificant stories.

Under rating threshold (show) I cannot get past page 12 since either answer would not fit my response. I have been quite honest the whole time, and I was actually enjoying the wall of words and was hoping it to continue a bit more. But then again I did feel sympathy towards the game for the effort it took to get me here, so I sincerely wished it to shoot me down. I'm so sorry to the game that I made it unable to fulfill it's objective.

If you made it to page 12, you already lied somewhere! The point of the quiz is just to establish that the player is being judged as evil by a completely unreasonable standard.
