yeah maybe it's because I program but holy shit I don't have the patience. I don't want to go through 40 levels of "just type what I already written to continue" before anything interesting happens. A "next" button would have been great.

I highly rate this game and method of teaching, its ingenius to create it in such a way that the user can learn how to create the game that their currently playing, can't wait for part 2 5/5
also have you considered adding badges as an extra incentive

Hey Greg
Looking at the comments I can see you mentioning a website "soon"
How can I get word of this when it launches? The Programmer RPG has been an amazing start for me to learn programming, and would like to learn more, but the world of programming is quite dounting when just looking around the internet.
Thanks for some great hours with this game!
Thanks! We are pushing an update to the site on Monday that we have been working on for 3 months. I am really excited about it. The website is like an online "social network" of learning where anyone can be a teacher or student and make and consume educational content. I intend on making a lot of javascript/web lessons which are similar to flash and this game on the site. So literally the next two weeks I may start converting the lessons.

Went to school and learned Java and VB .net. I didn't pursue this career but I do coding as a hobby because I love it. Love the game so far :D

Further to my last comment. I believe the corerct answer should be "trace(myFunction(18));" Could someone correct me and if possible also explain why. Thanks :)

Hi - I am loving the game, and learning a lot. I am stumped on level "Functions with inputs and outputs" part 7 of 10. I have looked at the hint but I still don't get it. Please someone help! It's annoying to get so far and now hit a brick wall.

Hey Greg! My name is Ryan, I don't know if you remember me, but at one point in time I sent you an email asking about programmer rpg 2, and you had shared a small zombie idle game prototype with me. I just wanted to tell you that I am super excited to see this new project of yours once it is released. When I first discovered this game I was maybe 13, and this game is what got me so interested in learning programming! I am now 19. I gotta give some credit to you as I am now a sophomore in a Computer Science degree, seeking a masters! Thank you again for being such an inspiration in my life!
Wow! That is so awesome! That just made my week! I look forward to meeting you some day. I'm glad my little flash game helped you. I love education and have created a whole website for learning that we are releasing soon. Then we will wrap up the zombie idle game lol. Thanks for this message and hope your studies go well!

Really like the idea, nice step by step explanation of the programming basics. Now i learnt that flash is pretty similar to c#

So i read about your project in one of these recent comments and im dumbfounded. A website for learning all programming languages would be huge, how will you manage? Especially in only 5 years

i really liked the game until i reach the rite a passage point at stage 15 where i need to write a code to double the userInput value of 50. i wrote userInput:Number *=2; which should be correct but its isnt true.. i guess im wrong here but i really dont know what ive done wrong.. please help me, i cant progress any further because of that.

"Strings are very very literal when you write them. You have to type the text EXACTLY how you want it to appear. Do you remember whitespace? Whtespace is gaps in your code, like spaces and indents. Most of the time, the compiler ignores whitespace, but inside of a string, each space is included. Take a look at these examples."
The missing 'i' in Whitespace, is that a typo or a great sense of irony from the dev? XD
I have the lessons implemented but it is possible I will not get the update done before flash is deprecated. Fortunately for the last four years I have been working on building an entire learning website to learn all of the modern languages. It will be ready at the end of the summer.
Yeah. We are getting closer to releasing an entire website dedicated to learning online. This game was kind of the prototype for it. I am really excited about it! A lot of these lessons will be repurposed for the javascript section. The transition from Flash to Javascript HTML5 is not that bad.

Love how I use the correct syntax and the correct command and it still fails me on the last Trace bit there lol. I think this is where I stopped last time too. (Like 2 years ago, maybe?) ~~ Still love this little gem though.

not excited about having to choose either what seems to be the woman character or a dark skin one can the update have the women in more skin tones? thx
I intend to add a few more during the final update. I way over-complicated the code to make the characters appear on the right frames (like during the battles) which is why I have put it off.

when i was first tasked with writing my first line of code it was private var userMoney = 123; when i did the same thing it took out a heart then i kept on trying and ended up ragequiting twice then i noticed there were spaces around the = which there shouldn't be can you remove it thanks

I can't get past this: To pass, this section declare a variable of type int named userMoney, and set it equal to -200. (I guess the user is in debt!) I put in: private var userMoney:int = -200; Thinking that was it... Is it not it?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
wow, I always thought that "private var tipAmount:Number = tip*totalBill;" and "private var tipAmount:Number = totalBill*tip" are same, but only one of them is good answer. I think that it is little mistake...
Yeah, this was in the early days when I could only match strings so each part only has one answer. Something much more sophisticated is on the horizon.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
YES! I made it... Now when I think about what can 1 letter do with your code, and how many times the creator of this game had rage-outs.

"Good work. Declare a variable called enemyStrength, with type uint, and set it equal to 100." I said, "private ver enemyStrenght:uint = 100;" and still, after trying lots of ways, I can't figure out why I can't pass this one simple question...

As a advanced programmer that create 3D games with OpenGL, what is the answer to 1) Basic Training 9/10 ? I'm not speaking well english...

Does anyone know how to save/load this game? I save and then exit, but when I come back and try to play again it just starts over. Thanks.
yes. Since flash is being deprecated, I'm going to add a few lessons that talk about the similarities between javascript and flash and how playing this game has taught the basics of javascript

The day the update gets released, hours will turn into seconds. But, till the time the update releases, seconds feel like hours. When shall this long-awaited event occur?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Please keep us updated! I've enjoyed the game very much so far, although I have a very small bit of prior experience. I'm very excited for the new website.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Hey everyone! I said the update was going to be on the 14th, but there are some bugs so it has been pushed back to the Jan. 21st 2018.
Believe it or not, I still intend to release the final update. I am making a new website that is based on the premise of programmer rpg and it is going to focus on programming, math, all sorts of topics. You will be able to make your own tutorials as well. I don't want to give out the site yet because we are still building it, but it is all html5, javascript, php. I hope you all like it!

The graphics are a little off-putting but other than that the game is quite good :) Good luck with your future games.
