Under rating threshold (show) Great concept, needs lots of balancing. Critical hit is over-powered. Fortress is under-powered. Treasure maps are too easy. Computer's combat AI needs a lot of improvement - it'd be better if it just moved all ships toward the human player each turn. It'd be predictable, but it'd never lose 6 ships and 3 fortresses to my 4 weaker ships if that were the case.

Under rating threshold (show) I feel like this game could be so much more. The tactical combat could be so much more interesting. Damage on ships doesn't matter at all, nor does whittling down crew beyond trying to do a board. Would be great if damage could destroy cannons, or lowered crew could mean fewer attacks or movement. Having weapons that could focus on crippling a ship, and perhaps having a capture instead of simply boarding to sink. This just feels like it is the groundwork of a great game that stopped a step or two short of greatness.

Under rating threshold (show) If my side has only a fortress, then I can not go after the enemy fleet. It's really dull to hit End Turn 10 turns in a row waiting for the enemy decide to commit to the attack.

Under rating threshold (show) This is a very good game, and there are just a couple of things keeping it from being great. First, the glitches. In the naval combat screen, sometimes a ship's icon will be on a different spot from where it is. The attack crosshairs show the true location. Also, after a ship has attacked it can move but the UI does not reflect that. An autosave feature would be appreciated. At the moment, the game is focused on the small-scale tactics in the naval combat screen. For a more strategic experience, there are a few options. Having ships take multiple turns would encourage a greater degree of planning, as well as giving the smaller ships use in the late game. On a larger scale, giving each region a set of citizens who can be assigned to different tasks with different bonuses could add an extra layer to the game. For example, shipwrights might let a provence make ships faster, merchants increase gold generated, and gunners improve the potency of forts and ships in that region.

Under rating threshold (show) I have Cartagena with one fortress. The AI is so buggy, the enemy ships keep hovering out of range and won't attack. I'm gonna build a second fort when done and see if that helps. What would help is being able to place my forts, I want it on the coast, not a mile inland.

Under rating threshold (show) I agree with the comments, very nice game, but too easy and long, I could finish the difficult mode easily but it took long, it was just some slow mawling of the ennemy... so you could want to speed up the battles that are unequal, + IA is really bad ennemy boats will attack one at a time, thus enabling defeating superior ennemy in an unfair way... + you can troll the castles by getting back and forth out of range... The game is nice with nice graphics... so a spped up button, a withdraw button, and a quick solve button would be great

Under rating threshold (show) The critical hits are legitimate (so long as they're balanced), I think, because they replicate the reality of naval warfare. In rl, it does indeed take only one shot to sink a ship, if it's a really good shot.

Under rating threshold (show) 2 stars as I agree with much of what is stated... The random events are non value add as are treasure hunts due to simplicity of the task. When other nations make peace with you it doesn't appear they are paying you gold to leave them alone so I don't get it. The battle simulations are crappy. Takes to long to play out and theres little in the way of strategy to win. Might be good to see range colors on the map when a unit is selected (like green for firing range or something). Having to pick off merchant ships and sloops when you are the obvious force just makes it pain staking as is the fact you can't speed up the turns. Much improvement needed though it was fairly fun to waste a couple hours on.

Under rating threshold (show) The biggest problem with the game is that the combat AI is utterly helpless, and even does not attack even with an enemy in range at times (galleons being the main perpetrators). There is little sense in its actions, and it does not utilise boarding properly, target lower health units, nor apply effective concentration of force, leaving all of its units to be slaughtered one by one. All of this also leaves the AI terribly vulnerable to hit and run tactics, to the point that I note that even a fleet of sloops can take out enemy fortresses- in fact, even frigates and galleons- with minimal, if any, casualties, made even easier by the power of critical hits. This leads to one-sided victories, which with the extremely snowballing nature of the game results in utterly terrible game balance and little enjoyment in its gameplay. Other peoblems include the other AI flaws, no truce upon peace, as well as unskippable animations bogging the game down. A decent concept but horrible execution.

Under rating threshold (show) Random events need more variety, and should be throttled down in the first few turns (I started with an extra ship which was a frigate, then a pirate attack after my first turn destroyed it, but left my sloop). Critical hits need to be less overpowered. Frigates, galleons, and fortresses with full health shouldn't be destroyed with a single hit, critical or not. Peace treaties should include a mandatory cease fire for a certain number of turns, because it really doesn't seem like whether you are at peace or at war has any effect on whether another nation attacks you.

Under rating threshold (show) AN enemy ship on side edge of map can board my ship on the opposite edge of map. Stupid bug. Worse is that the game doesn't allow me to do it back! Maybe it can if the exact same circumstance, but not wasting my time to find out.

Under rating threshold (show) this is a good game but essentially a simplification of pirates gold or port royal. I'd be a little worried about plagiarism. the troops in the fort do SFA so maybe get some productivity from them if you do make subsequent versions.

Under rating threshold (show) The boat combat is brutally bare bones. There is basically no strategy other than using Bragantine's speed to rush in, attack, and retreat enemy forts. Other than that just rushing the opponent is really the only action. And you will ALWAYS win if you have better ships.
