Under rating threshold (show) The critical hits are extremely over powered, but I think it actually adds something to the game by being this way. I doubt it was the intention, but the OP criticals keep me a little worried about facing even the tiniest ship. Without that, at a glance you could almost perfectly predict a battle's outcome. With this huge wild-card in the mix, I've had seemingly 1 sided battles flip to the losing team's favor. So over all... not bad.

Under rating threshold (show) I liked it, but got boring after a number of games. It needs many more different maps for boat battles and more big maps for more wars, it needs the possibility of retreat, I want to be able to sell or destroy my boats and I want to see the cannons' range, then it would be great.

Under rating threshold (show) Turn 3 storm destroys half my ships, Turn 4 the enemy destroys 1 of my ships. Turn 5 another storm destroys the rest of my ships. Can i have that 5 minutes of my life back?

Under rating threshold (show) I did it in 5 turns (as england) on hard difficulty, because brigantines are the best ships against AI: move two squares forward, fire, move two squares backward. This tactics is ultimate againts fortress if yout ships are just 5 squares away. And this tactics is also good against (defending) AI because it is not willing to go with all its ships to your corner of the map, so you can take enemy ships one at a time. The game needs at least 5 turns, as you can only double the number of regions in each turn and there are about 20 regions.

Under rating threshold (show) One of my frigates was on the right edge of the map. I was able to "board" a fortress on the left edge of the map. I won, and then the game froze.

Under rating threshold (show) Enemy ships act bad when their ship is blocking the only path to your ships. Enemy sends one ship to get your ships, path get blocked, other 4 enemy ships are traveling around the map corners instead of waiting for path to unblock. You might want to change the pathfinding function to address this kind of behavior.

Under rating threshold (show) Nice base to build upon, but the RNG is far too strong in this game. Between ships getting sunk in one hit by critical hits and the random events who can really hurt your fleet early game, this feels more like a luck game than a strategy game.

Under rating threshold (show) It would be freakin' amazing if we could board the enemies ship, kill their crew, split the remaining crew from our ship and take command of the ship we boarded. Instead of sinking it... then at the end it could just give us extra gold if we already have maxed boat slots.

Under rating threshold (show) some of the maps is a bit too small for any decent naval battle. way too much land mass in such a small map. auto placement of ships sometimes make it impossible to move your fleet efficiently. ship movement need undo option or track cursor so you can see what you can fire at that square. i think normal ships shouldn't have ability to critical. allow recruit and appoint captain that grant specific ability to the ship. i think trade ship shouldn't be involved port capture battle. allow more option like attack shipping lines where sloops tries to sink enemy trade ships while evading escort ships. defenders have option to meet enemy fleet in open. also allow shallow water square to reduce the over dependence on galleon. increase movement of smaller ships or add movement penalty to larger ships. auto battle would be a good feature.

Under rating threshold (show) What is the point of having a 10% max increase for cannons or crew if there is no way to add in those extra units/crew members? Unless I am missing a button that would allow me to add in said crew/cannons you should probably just make it so that when you get those upgrades it just automatically gives them to you. At the moment all that happens when I get those upgrades I just see what I could have but not what I am actually getting and I know this since every time I board someone with an undamaged ship the crew number I have is of the original number not the 10% increased one....

Under rating threshold (show) At first I didn't know how to play the game but the mechanics were pretty well put together, I had no problem getting the hang of it and learned some tricks which led me to a clean sweep with no losses. Great game keep up the great work HopliteGames!

Under rating threshold (show) Okay, in all seriousness, I love the spirit of this game, I will play this game, I will play v2, but it needs tweaking. 1. The critical hit rule is not good. I lost three ships in one battle to crits. 2. I would respectfully recommend an "action points" feature in battles. Even now, I'm not sure exactly what my options are. Firing while moving would be very useful, and ramp up strategy. 3. Ranges are too consistent. If these ships were real, ranges would all be different. Having a very long gun can increase options for strategy. Right now, "Charge!" is the only one. 4. The different speeds of ships is nice, but the faster ships are not harder to hit, so they don't do much in combat (even though they can avoid combat easier). 5. Ranges work diagonally? 6. Boarding needs to be optional at range of one. 7. Boarding needs a Retreat feature. It does not always have to work... 8. I really want more and bigger maps and more opponents. Great great beginning - please keep going.

Under rating threshold (show) I beat the entire game without being attacked once on hard, also I can beat a 2 fortress, 2 galleon, 2 frigate, 3 merchant and 2 sloop fleet with 6 brigantines, losing only 1 brigantine. The AI is pretty bad.
