Wouldn't be so bad if I could move properly - kept running into my directions sticking (left and right, namely). Usually, a double-tap corrected it. Had to quit once I get to the boss and suddenly wound up propelled left and couldn't fix it. GG.

The idea of using a laser gun to propel yourself in different directions is definitely something to look into. Though it does get annoying that it's difficult to control accurately. Though there should be a secret ending where you go home instead of through the portal, resulting in the main character just watching TV.

Spoiler: If You have problems with the controls and You are stuck in a place, right click, select "Advance" or "Fast Fordward" (IDK my OS language is in spanish) and the screen will become black, right click again and select "Play" and voilà! You will complete the game.

Any special tricks for getting off of the second plateau in the cave? I've been working the combinations of jump and forward and pushing up with the gun for about an hour now...

Allow me to translate for reisch. "I can't game today, I have the fail." I've never even heard of what this individual is yapping about. As far as the controls go, they are difficult. But again, if you pay attention you can learn how to work it. Any direction other than down pushes you in the opposite direction (thrust, plain and simple.) IF you are firing from the moment you jump, you continue upwards for quite a distance (again, thrust. Come on people, this isn't that hard to figure out.) For those of you who can't figure this game out, maybe gaming isn't for you. I get sick and tired of seeing games zero bombed by people because they aren't paying attention or willing to work at it. That's why so many people harp about Dark Souls being the be all, end all of video games. Persistence, or find a new hobby.
