It's good for a 72 hour game, but it's a terrible game. Even though it's a one-button game I feel like I don't have control of the guy. The luck element in this one is horrible too. There is no way to safely climb at a fast pace because of the random wall spikes with their 1 hit kills and there is really no point since they put the laser on a rubber band. Here's a tip, the rubber band mechanic is for PVP games. It is just stupid to put it on the environment. I know there must be a way to properly play this one, but it's too bad of a game for me to care.

Why is it that no matter how fast you climb, the laser is always just at the bottom of the screen ready to catch up to you as soon as you slow down past a certain point?

After you've been playing for a while and often top 200m, the next step is to work on your speed in the early stages. The laser speeds up over time (not height) so the faster you go at the start, the more time you'll have to carefully work through the more difficult areas.

4) DON'T PANIC! Sometimes you can't help having a bunch of small jumps in a row. Relax, there's nothing you can do but make your jumps and look for the first opportunity to make a full jump away from the laser. If you master step 1 and 2, you should be able to get a full jump just in time to avoid getting zapped.
5) Sometimes you just need to slide. When there are a bunch of small jumps in a row you will slowly creep up towards the spikes. If you've been good at keeping the laser at bay, you should sneak a small slide in the middle so you don't end up hitting the spikes before you reach the top of your small jump section.
Practice and follow these tips and you should be regularly posting scores between 500-700m. Once you're past 700m, it gets hard and stays hard. At that point it's just executing flawlessly for as long as you possibly can (and friendly spike placements can help too!).

Ok, so I've played this game obsessively since it was posted (current best: 1001m) and here's my tips for 350 and beyond:
1) There is no need for "fast jumps." The fast jumps are the timing jumps that result in the trail following your jump. You don't need to use these to make any of the jumps, and they will only throw off your timing. Spend time in the lower portion practicing the different jump heights without fast jumping.
2) Make jumps just below the spikes. This is crucial to making jumps over some of the bigger spikes and for getting away from the laser. The more you play, you'll develop patterns for each spike pattern you encounter.
3) In the 300m-600m range learn to take the option of the bigger jump. It's easy to be tempted to take lots of small jumps, but this is often avoidable. Full jumps are easier to control and they keep the laser off-screen.

Got 412. The trick is playing for an hour and practice holding ESC to go higher, then try to let your brain go auto-pilot while daydreaming. Don't get excited when you hit 300.

Very fun and addictive:D But the whole time playing this, I couldn't help but think...
How the hell do you build something like this? xD Go to a construction worker and ask them to build you an elevator shaft with a laser and electric spikes in it?:P

I jumped over the laser line, then didn't jump, i was hoping the laser go up and then i'll go slowly without no worries, but, it didn't go up and a Troll Face appeared...

Protips:
Always wait and look before you jump. That's how I got the badge.
Holding ESC and likewise tapping it will make you jump lower and higher.

On the bottom of the screen there is a pic of the escape key and then when u activate the laser and fall back down there is a creepy old man

somehow i tried incredibly hard to get this badge first day, now sometimes i just come since its still addicting and i get 350+ easily somehow...kinda funneh

Part of the reason this game can be so addictive: it is satisfying to watch the little guy get zapped and then sliced up as a reward for his repeated failure. Or maybe I'm projecting a bit.,,

Protip for the hard badge : the laser will keep up with you the faster you go and it does not slow down so the best way to outsmart the laser is to deliberately not rush through the level and go slower, you will get much farther than you would mashing the escape key and getting that jump boost. The laser follows you off-screen if you go fast and then when you hit a hard part it catches up but it doesn't slow down so you end up more screwed. Take your time it pays off.
