I feel this game had great potential, with the unique upgrading style, but like everyone else is saying; The air units are too strong, and the anti-air towers are too weak. You have too choices. Build ground attacking towers so your base doesn't die, or build anti-air towers so your towers don't die. Four level two anti-air towers on level 5 won't kill a single air unit. Not a single one. Isn't that a little ridiculous?

Lvl 8: plenty of basic guns, lots of AA (sell after last air wave), some stunguns, and a wall factory should get you far - make sure the AA is in place to kill the carriers. Repair towers immediately on air waves, sell if needed... then losses should be few; just find the right balance. Lvl 11: 5 well placed AA towers get you far. Lots of basic towers and 1-2 wall factories, recon support can help. For the jammers and clusterbots, use a bunch of cannons and have stun guns (this greatly helps cannons hit the target). Achievements like extra starting cash help a lot. Those levels may be the biggest issue; on longer levels you have the time to unlock stuff. Maybe make levels like 8 and 11 a little bit easier though, to prevent ragequits before people get to the 'good bit' :). Adjusting opinion to 4/5.

The air mechanic does not add any fun to the game. I think more then anything it was an afterthought or just a good intentioned idea gone wrong. I can see you were trying to add difficulty to the game but that mechanic just makes the game frustrating and does not add any real value. It is almost like a separate TD build in to the real game.
Great game otherwise.

if all you crybabby's bitching about weak anti air (especially those who are bitching about lev 8) would just STFU and just figure it out... the comments section of this great game wouldn't look so damn pathetically noobish. regular AA aren't very strong until they upgrade, and they don't upgrade until you get some kills... SO BUILD LOTS OF THEM AND THEN SELL SOME OF THEM ONCE THEY GET STRONGER. i beat level 8, so have a lot of people... so whats more likely... all of us are lying, or you just suck at games and like to bitch at the first sign of a challenge? man up, strat up, and STFU. anything less than 5 stars for this game and you can consider yourself a no skill having douchebag.

Irysoft, numerous people have told you the AA towers aren't powerful enough/the air units are too powerful. I think if a community of gamers comes together on one thing, we are probably right. I personally have tried numerous tactics, trying to get as many upgrades as possible, and I still can't stop the airships from destroying my towers

level 8 can be done with a massive AA
and AA maximized is simply amazing so keep your AA and make a line or two at the opposite of your base this will keep away the most of the aerian wave out of your tower
prepare your AA defense at least one wave before the first aerian wave
i'm on the 12 level and it's kind of easy to keep going

I'm stuck on level 8. Even passing wave 18 with all tower intacts and selling the now useless air tower, wave 19 go straights into my defens. I can't do anything to stop them. Any suggestion?

Level 8 was definitely a challenge, was my 5th attempt before I sold all towers before the air support came on wave 18 and then rebuilt for the air drop and final wave :)

nice game , but u need more $ to build and upgrade , so level 8 is very hard , AA gun need wall factory to ugrade , and then 30 air units kill , but the very first 10 are lethal for almost all my entire set of towers . need balance . 2/5

Um, to those who are stuck on level 8, can't you build a airstrike to attack the air units, or copters? I have used a airstrike on air units before

do we have to defend the towers in this game or the base? because most of the time you are spending more money on defending and repairing your towers than to protect your base.. but wasnt the point of a tower defence game to protect your base and not your towers?

It is tough to defense the air attack initially, but it is mainly because we are so use to the the traditional tower defense. At least canyon defense show some new innovation:
1. Achievement as upgrade system (this is really new)
2. Make "Tower selling" as a viable strategy move. Usual TD seldom require selling tower, but in this game, selling the tower is necessary for some map.
3. Air unit not following the "path".
It is risky to make new move and there will sure have opposition from many people. I bravo the designer for the courageous move.

Air units are overpowered, as everybody else has stated. The anti-air towers, which cost too much, can only take down enemies if they're lined up with them, which of course results in the destruction of the AA. Whenever anybody complains about them, you respond with "build more herp derp." We can't because they're TOO EXPENSIVE. You stated that "flying enemies appear from the direction which is opposite to the base." When the base is in the top right corner, how are we supposed to know what the "opposite" is? Additionally, you brushed off Killdamnation's complaint by stating that "Air units do not attack the base so they do harm to your towers only." Great. So instead of killing the base, they open the way for the enemies to do so. For a minute there, I was worried. Basically, balance the AA system. Maybe make it so normal towers can damage them a bit, but AA's are more effective. Or, better yet, scrap the whole thing entirely.

Flying units apparently come from the opposite side of your base? Well, I was just on level 8, and set my Anit-air towers on the opposite side of my base (as instructed), yet, helicopters flew in from the side my base was on and destroyed majority of my towers, leaving me defenceless for the upcoming waves. Is this not supposed to happen? Or have the developers just been giving out incorrect information?

Ok, i give up. It's just no fun.... had it 5/5 for the beginning. But then the difficulty increased too much.
Difficult games with a challenge are good, but this is no challenge. It's based on luck, if you get the composition right. Normally you could use your brain and find the right tactic, but here not even the right tactic seems to work.
The balancing of this game makes it a pain in the ass. Either you just didn't think of it much or you wanted to bother people with your game, rather than to try to make them have fun with it.
I'm afraid I've got to revise my primary rating.

You're saying air units always fly from direction opposite to base. How come in 8th lvl they are flying from north where my base is? Shouldn't they fly from south in this case?

Also I'd like to say something else, on wave 4 I got a perfect score, it was extremely easy and there was like only 1 boss. On wave 5 there was about 4 to 6 bosses that came through, seriously? Way too hard, way too fast. It seems like time was put into the game, but it really doesn't seem like you took balancing into consideration, at all.

I hated it. In my eyes it seems extremely unbalanced. At points in time it seems like money spent is going to waste on certain towers, I spend 150 on cannon towers, 6 of them, and they barely do anything.

the fact that air units work the way they do is stupid. Anti-air is worthless, and bosses being able to just tunnel through walls is stupid too. I'm disappointed in you Iriysoft this game is terrible unlike all the ones you've done before it.

well I can make AA work but the thing is that it take A LOT of AA to do anything (at which point you are SET) so what if you double the damage and double the cost so that the cost/damage remains unchainged and i might be able to get some support towers on them rather then only being able to get them on a fraction of the towers and have more space for the other towers so that you dont feel like you have to dedicate 1/4th of your map solely to AA

I don't know about you but I LIKE the added difficulty. This game is great it has so many new ideas and is actually challenging that I would rate it a 5/5 anytime.

As others have mentioned the antiair part of the game is so out of balance that it ruins what would otherwise be a above average td game. Oh well 4/5 drops to 3/5 and I move on to different games until this gets fixed.

need some rework for basic AA, air unit simply destroying ground building, repair cost too much especially when we have 3 in row air unit attack
laser AA quite good, but its expensive, basic AA quite useless, rework its requirement to upgrade it imo

I like all but the AA towers. Its impossible to have a successful ground defence when your airways are getting bombed. The AA's arent able to kill a single bomber with 2 together until its already dropped. REALLY? I mean if you needed 2 for actual killing it would be fine but they cost too much to get tons. Please dont do that.

On level 8 I've had the first two waves of flying units come in from the same side as the base, the second wave coming out directly next to the base. As for the "you can always build more" comment, the caveat is that you can only build more if you have money which you can't get if your turrets are unable to take down the flying units which keep destroying them.

heres a basic guide to beat level 8. mass towers basic towers. forget about air. build so many many basic turrets that they simply cant destroy them all.

They may be weak alone, but the AA guns are relatively effective when you get a whole bunch of them. And the AA Lasers are pretty much boss.

a great game 5/5
insane dificulty but in mission 8 first put the mounted guns near of the first gate put aleast 3 stun guns in middle of the map then put 5 antiair towers for counter the first air wave put the more towers or and repair the stun guns for counter the second, for counter the helicopters u need wall factory and 8-10 antiair towers IN THE CENTER, 10-12 moutned guns near of the first and second gate and 5 stun guns, 3 in the center and 2 near of the first gate.

Would be a great TD if it was fixed. Currently it seems like a grind fest hoping for some goodies... and often you can't build those new goodies because for instance there are no shielded enemies in a level (or too late), blocking the shield and thus also the laser towers. Apart from costs. 3/5 because of issues like that... in most other aspects, clearly better than most TDs.
