Under rating threshold (show) Pretty nice and unique game! I like the idea very much! :) A few suggestions: have a scenario-specific background noise like shores with crispy fire cracking. Oh, and if I could send out orders to my units in pause mode that would be awesome. Will definitely look at any successor!

Thanks man. We initially.. long time ago, added a crackling fire sound.. but on a phone, it sounded terrible, so we took it out. Still looking into music for the game though.

Thanks Nick for the great review! I know what you mean, I find most people shake their heads first when I tell them I built a wildfire fighting game. They are like, "Where's the zombies, the bullets?". Once you start playing it, you realize that there's a lot more strategy and depth to the game than it first appears! :D

I know what you mean.. I've been trying to find a good simple solution, but all I can think of is on every move a unit makes, swap it's depth to the bottom. Gets very confusing on 4th of July level with so many Hoser Teams. If you have a suggestion, I'm very open to new ideas.

Thanks Quazar for a great review! I come and check Kong every once in a while, see if there's any new comments! Yes, it's been 4 years already, crazy! Since then, I've updated the game and create two new versions. There's FireJumpers Sandbox, which is a cooperative multiplayer version! Sandbox is great but it's not on Kong. You can however play it online at www.firejumperspro.ca/sandbox/ and you can also play it on Android & iOS! Now I've just recently created a third version, similar to Sandbox called FireJumpersPRO, but way way more accurate, from fire behaviour model, to actual unit movement speeds. FireJumpersPRO is specifically designed as a tactical decision making training tool for wildland firefighting agencies. It's currently free during the beta stage, you can test that also online at www.firejumperspro.ca

Under rating threshold (show) i have completed level 15 multiple times.... but when the fire is out nothing happens... the timer for the plane continues but i cannot use any other actions and my progress does not get saved...

Under rating threshold (show) Has any one else noticed that on the hose units sometimes the hose line is really short and others is a good usable length? Also RedHawk have you thought about adding levels where you can edit your team? honestly I have noticed a few levels where some units where of no use or just a hindrance.

the length of the hose is mostly consistent, but if you swipe you mouse really fast, you can extend the hose length slightly (hack). I'd love to incorporate a team building stage before loading the map, to select which units you'd like to use, however all these maps are balanced to score 1-3stars based on the units preselected. If users can select their own, then I'd need a new way to calculate score. I thought perhaps introducing virtual dollars to pay for different units, but that's a whole lot of programming! Upgradable units is something else I'd like to add in the future. However, before any of that, I'm looking to add new units, Bulldozers, improved waterbomber (maybe a fire-retardant bomber), water refill trucks, 4x4 ATVs and fire boats. Maybe if you get 3 stars, open the level up to place your own fire and wind direction for replayability. I get to put about an hour or two a day on this game after my day job, so it's going to take a while :) Thanks for your feedback!

Under rating threshold (show) I had failed a level while controlling the water bomber and when I picked another level the water bomber icon was up on the screen except in this level there was no water bomber. I tried using the icon but nothing would happen.

Sorry, I should go into the App Store and reply more to my iOS fans. It's just such a pain to navigate Apple's interface though. That said, you should check out the current development progress for my upcoming game called FireJumpers Inferno, which is getting rebuilt in Unity3D! Basically I'm taking the combined knowledge of things that worked in all previous 3 (technically 4) versions. Ok, I fixed the scoring system. Now the scoring fails at 0% always. This doesn't mean that every terrain blit is burnt, it just means that you've let things burn too far. The game doesn't end just because you hit 0%, cause sometimes it's just fun fighting the fire anyway.

That's a great idea, however how do you balance the game? Starting fires is much easier than fighting fires. Also, besides starting fires, what would the pyros main objective. For example, in this game, you fight fires because you're objective is to save buildings and civilians.

We did have a "fire starter" unit in mind, someone who can start fires for a controlled burn, however we're not sure how to implement that kind of unit and whether it would even be fun to play. Suggestions welcome :)

Under rating threshold (show) I did not think this game would be as good as it is, specially with it involving a firefighting theme. I was pleasantly surprised when I started to play the game and saw that this game was very exceptional to others that have tried to come before it. There is a learning curve, but once you begin to master certain aspects of the game, it becomes easy, just not in the "I can play it in my sleep" easy. There are a few things that could be adjusted, like the plane timer and maybe more access to water points for hoses. Other than that, great game.

Thanks Bradley for reviewing the game and 5 stars! Yes, the fire burns randomly each time, to keep things different each time you play. Sometimes, just as you think you have it under control.. it jumps the fire line and you find yourself with a whole new fire to contain! Just like real life!

Thanks for the comments! It should be able to save progress using cookies. If that's disabled on your computer, that might be the reason it's not saving progress. As for badges, that'd be cool, but no idea how to implement. Besides, this game is actually designed for mobile devices. :)

Under rating threshold (show) why i got 1 star for level 6 with 88,2 %? its a high rate for this level! This level has the longest way to fly and 2x the units take over. in some level no one has a chance to get stars or to win at all. a better balance for level 6, but especially from level 9 please

hmm.. I got 36% & 2 stars for level 6 - Plane Crash. I'll look into it, it definitely shouldn't be that high! As for level 9+, I'll rebalance them, give a wider range of success.

thanks for the review! This is my original game, Sandbox was create a couple years after this one, which is why it has improved units. I'm now done with Sandbox and I've started on my new version called FireJumpersPRO - Tactical Decision Training. This new pro version is not a game, it's a training tool for wildland firefighters to train in tactical decision making. Though technically it'll be available to the public via mobile devices and online, there will be a monthly subscription to access the full features. So I doubt that the general public will subscribe, but that's ok as it's geared specifically for wildland firefighting agencies and they have a budget for training. We're planning to do more dev work on the game soon, however we've been concentrating on building a pro version of FireJumpers over the last few months. It has a custom scenario editor, improved Tankers, aircraft altitude, on-screen and off-screen water pickups, dual screen for operator/trainee view points, and the list goes on. Start by transporting the Cut Team via Helicopter and drop him off in the south river (closest to the fire as possible). Start cutting south towards the road (roads are natural firebreaks). Pick up civilian and bring him back and pick up Hose Team. Drop Hose Team in north river. Then use helicopter to water bomb northern edge. With a little luck, you'll be able to contain the edges, while keeping the head of the fire between the northern and southern rivers. The waterbomber timer should activate just in time to allow you to hit the head of the fire from river to river. Should give you 3 stars :)

I'm assuming you mean Malibu. Transport the hosers to the far hydrant with the helicopter. While the helicopter waterbombs the south-east blaze, have the hosers run straight towards the head of the fire. Run past the dense trees and spray on as much grasslands as possible. Grass is much easier to extinguish with water. Once the whole left side is put out, concentrate on the final north front. Should get you 3 stars. :)

Thanks for your input. There's 3 ways the hose team can suddenly stop spraying. First is when the fire burns the hose, he'll turn grey and stop spraying. Second is if the fire touches the unit, the unit will turn red and stop spraying. Last way is if you tap the hose team while he's stopped, this will "unhook" from the water source, he'll turn white and stop spraying. Note however that if the hoser is moving while spraying, the unit will stop moving only and continue spraying water. It's a bit tricky I know, and we're working on a different solution to help manage unit actions and overlapping units. I'm open to any suggestions :)

Under rating threshold (show) Strongly need arrow keys to scroll the map, too. Right now, we lose really too much time adjusting this and that, and during this time, the fire keeps burning everything. I wished I'd love this game, but I can't. That said, it's a really original one (saving tress and people changes from killing every single other being-one) and I'd like the devs to keep making this kind of games. Maybe I'm too a casual gamer for enjoying how this game handles (or doesn't).

To give yourself more time to make decisions, you may notice that anytime you touch the map, the game pauses. Use that to give yourself time to think, or you can change game speed to 1/2x. Also, this game is 4 years old now and I've built two new version. There's FireJumpers Sandbox that is a cooperative multiplayer version and you can download it on Android/iOS or play online at www.firejumperspro.ca/sandbox/ I also recently launched FireJumpersPRO, a tactical training simulator for wildland firefighting agencies. Under rating threshold (show) hosemen on the bank of a river doesn't obey the order to get back their hose... they just keep right where they are. I NEED the helicopter to keep the fire under pseudo-control and can't afford using it to get them where they should go. :( (Hawai scenario)

the Hawaii map is the first map where you need to use the terrain features in your strategy. I first use helicopter to carry the cut team up close the the fire, along the road (to the south) and cut north towards the river. I carry the civilian back as I return to pick up the hose team and drop him right in the tip of the river (the north river). Then try to contain the head of the fire between the two rivers. The bomber timer ends around when the head of the fire is at the most narrow part between the rivers. Drop the bomber's water right there and it should be a mop up.

game uses flash cookies.. if you cleared your cache, you'll lose progress. However, I added an easter egg on the splash screen that unlocks all levels. Click on the version number at top left corner of the screen and all levels unlock.

lol, sorta. The light blue water is shallow water, so I'm thinking you are still touching the bottom. However the deep water (dark blue) is different, ground units' speed on deep water is I think 0.5% of original speed. Basically, you are swimming with a big chainsaw on your back. Given enough time, you can cross deep water, but that's why you have a helicopter to transport units :)

hose teams need to connect to the shallow waters or firehydrants. Shallow water is the light blue water. The dark blue water is for helicopter water scooping. :)

Under rating threshold (show) I give up on this game. Every time you update to fix one problem, two more show up. First it was level 15 not stopping. Then it was Chrome users data not saving, not its the helicopter not refilling after it flies back to the water, and the hose crews walking around the hydrants and not actually connecting to them. Nice idea, but you're not ready for primetime

Don't give up yet.. I got a very good version for you this morning! It's just one guy building it, that's me :) This version 1.1.4 (see top left corner on splash screen) to make sure you have the right version. You may need to give it time or clear your cache to see the update. Anyway, as an mini easter egg in the game.. click on the version number at the top to unlock all levels :)

Under rating threshold (show) I think there needs to be a score adjustment for mission 2.4. The high level of buildings near the start with the explosives involved cause you to drop sharply before any chance of containment.

Under rating threshold (show) this game is incredibly good, but it seems it does not safe - everytime I reload it, my savegame is gone and i have to replay all levels. does anyone else have this problem? i dont have it with other games...

It would appear that there's a conflict with Chrome. I'm having the same issue.. I'll look into it. UPDATE: Chrome seems to be working again.. at least for me. I'm not sure why it's not holding your data, still looking into it.

Under rating threshold (show) "Gets very confusing on 4th of July level with so many Hoser Teams." Possible solution A : Hot key them to a certain number/letter. Possible solution B : When mouse is hovering in a area say 20x20 pixel/% all units in that area will be listed chronologically to the right of the cursor eg Hooser 1, Hooser 2, Heli 1(3?) etc. Unit suggestions : Fire starter (Some firefighting helicopters today are equipped with Premo MKIII incendiary devices.) High capacity all terrain fire fighting trucks, used almost exclusively in remote areas of southern Florida (no hydrants, heli's require pads and money). Able to have a long hose, or just carry the water. Patrol cars for warning people to evacuate and catch arsons possibly. Ladder trucks Scenario idea : a huge fire and you have a very small squad because your waiting for the surrounding fire departments to show up. This is truly a wonderful game, I can only wait and anticipate what kind of games you'll create next :).

very true about 4th of July and confusing to select the exact unit. It's even harder to manage on a phone, which this game is actually designed for. So hotkeys won't work on phones, but I have developed a cycling functionality that essentially cycles between units that are within close proximity. As for controlled-burn units, we are already considering adding them, there's a discussion about it now on our facebook page (www.facebook.com/firejumpers/). We also want to add an upgrade system, exchanging your earned stars to upgrade units. There's a lot of ideas I'd like to implement, but I have very little time these days. I was hoping to get more success on the Android and iPhone, but 10-20 downloads a day combined markets is simply not enough to quit my day job! lol Thank you for your input, much appreciated and looking forward to getting an update out soon :)

Under rating threshold (show) very good game, not sure why the low plays. is it api? eligible for badges? there is a bug though, if you click heli, click hicker, click heli again before it reaches the hiker the hiker will be already on the heli and you can evac without flying the distance

Under rating threshold (show) Very good game. The concept is apealing, the game is easy to pick-up and yet it is challenging at some stages. The large number of levels is very appreciated. It's not perfect though, the irregular difficulty progression between levels, and the lacks in ergonomy is why I don't give it a 5 star (how harsh, I know): -I manage to stuck an unit in the bottom left corner of the screen, I was unable to select it again because it clicked on the speed change button instead -the variation order of speed (1-1/2-2) is a bit weird (normal-lower-higher, can't remember anything like that) -a dezoom function would be greatly appreciated, as much the ability to scroll the map while in pause.
