I don't get everyone's problem with the controls, left button to rotate left, right button to rotate right. If that's is too hard for you to understand, that's on you, not on the dev.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Let's begin with controls confusion. I suggest you keep onscreenwhich button rotates which direction at all times. I only discovered that you could swap buttons around level 12, because you couldn't put that in the tutorial or the start screen, could you? Then, I was disappointed because of how short it was. Last, character did award their freedom, but nothing was told about the voice, why we are here or what is he testing us for. Bland idea of freedom (A cat? The animal that doesn't listen to its owner? I see what you did there...) that could have been explored much more in depth. -Also this complaint that doesn't have yo do with your game in particular- Why the f* do spikes hurt from the sides in every game. It's not like they're sharp on the side. I'm sure some retro Hedgehog nailed it by having spikes' hurt just on the tip. Nobody's done that since...

Poor controls, poor hitboxes. Spent more time trying to make the controls work the way they should than on trying to solve the puzzles.

If you're very confused with the buttons just like me, there's a small hint that turned my life way easier: decide which floor you want to stand on, if it is on the left side, press the left key (Q), if it's on the right side, press the right key (E),just following your fingers. Hope it helps ;)

Lotta fun, died so many times because the rotation scheme, but figured out a good TIP for not getting confused: which ever surface you want to land on, press the corresponding button (Q/E) to which ever side it is on. Or whichever way you want to fall that is the button you press. 4.5/5 woulda been perfect, but honestly i think the whole 'omniscient overseer rooting for your failure' is a little played out. The cat was tight tho.

This has been said before, but I'll say it again, because after finishing the game, it happened to me many times over: a small tooltip for the direction of Q/E would be pretty awesome. Or maybe cover the surfaces in some kind of color when turning the screen would make these the "floor".

Hint: For those stuck in the last stage, you need to skip the second lever, flip the third lever then go back to flip the second. This game took longer than I expected, been stuck on stage 16 for almost half an hour. Finally knew the trick.

I feel like that you have to commit to muscle memory at a certain point, especially if you don't remember which switch opens which door(s) and where the spikes are located while falling from a great height.

this was like a legit great game. just a tad bit annoyed at my own stupidity confusing the W/E controls several times and jumping into spikes, but that last level was really interesting to play through!

Quick tip for everyone having a hard time; it's easier to remember which button rotates which way if you think of it as "the left key (Q) will put me on the left wall". Same thing for the E key and the right wall. I can't help if you decide to swap the keys, though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Great game 5/5! ALL AWARDS: 1. The Beginning - Finish the game. 2. Seven or less - Finish the game in 7 minutes or less (speedrun mode). 3. Architect - Create and test a level. 4. Curiosity - Click the "made by JS" button at the bottom left corner of the screen. 5. Sound seeker - Click the "Soundtrack available!" button in the credits. 6. Rotate Me - Press Q or E to rotate the achievements screen. --- I discovered all awards by myself, beating the game in 7 minutes was really hard, but I finally did it.

Though I think Portal-esque puzzle game environments are overdone, this was still a fun game with an innovative mechanic they used. A bit short, but I was failing enough towards the end of the game that I am glad it didn't over stay it's welcome. Some suggestions: As many others have put it a simple "Q rotates this way and E rotates this way" HUD would be nice, and also allowing us to press 'R' to restart a room if we're stuck instead of having to run into spikes would be nice. All-in-all, a fun game, can't wait to see what comes next.
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed playing. I'm probably not adding anything at this point, but as far as restarting there's actually a restart button in the pause menu. I initially had where you could press [R] to restart, but I felt like it was too likely to be accidentally pressed being right next to [E].

Fun concept and enjoyed it mostly but think it could use a clarifying visual for rotation directions and maybe checkpoints for Levers; repeating from scratch is annoying when you've figured that part out and make a mistake later on.
Thanks for playing! I'm probably not going to be changing much at this point, but I definitely agree that I'll need improve on some points for my next games.
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it! I'm definitely doing a sequel of some sort in the future, whether it's in the form of another web game, or something larger on Steam and such. :)

I liked that the screen did not give me rotating tips, it forced me to critically think about my next move instead of just tapping along.

Got kind of annoying being constantly heckled for making the wrong choice when I never had a choice to begin with. Even a brief 'haha you made the idiot box decision' false choice early on would have dealt with that. Otherwise, very good game; solid puzzles and platforming.

thank you for this amazing art work. this game makes you think hard about what you are doing. please make more games like these.

This black cat is not affected by gravitational change during the whole game. Must be a magical one. Also, the whole world is not affected by gravity when you go outside. It's not gravitational shift, it's just a mega-maze similar to the one in the movie "Cube".

"Use WASD to move and QE to rotate." " Alright, I guess I will figure it out myself since 99% game use WASD to move and QE for special actions." " No! I have given you everything I have! Now you are mine!" Brah

It's frustrating when I have to be aware of deadly obstacles that are off-screen. Sometimes the only way to know if a spike or saw is there is to rotate or jump, die, and start the whole level over again.

Loved it, 5/5 music is awsome, has a very underground deux/mass effect/flash back feel. The controls are good, it reminds me of N+ slightly. The only thing that makes this game imperfect is the text sound. but thats just nit picking.

Seems like a v nice game but it's super frustrating whena fter 20 moves you restart the entire lvl. Maybe a save/checkpoint/revert option?

Nice game! A little bit sour when you die one move from the exit. Loved the level editor. Where do i find other player's level codes? Thanks for sharing.

I love the game and the concept of it - but I feel it was a really frustrating experience - mostly because it's really easy to forget on which direction you are going to turn. It's also a little annoying you can't move the camera past the "screen" your character is - it sometimes makes knowing where to land (without dying) a guesswork. Spikes are also some times placed in a manner on which they are just too difficult to dodge.

Cool game. I love those "test-chamber-mysterious-voice-leading-you-going-somewhere-you're-not-supposed-to-be" games if that's a genre :D One little thing: I failed a LOT of times because I forgot which button rotates in which direction. Maybe a small HUD that shows the rotation direction of the "e" and "q" button would solve the problem?

hi joshuasotne or should i say bytearray (im peace form ee) i saw you responded but why nti make the story go futher in level 8?
I had already spent a lot of time working on Rotate, and since I really wanted to get working on the EE reboot I felt that I needed to wrap it up quickly. I agree that it would've been cool to have multiple endings if I had the time. :)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I like the concept, but the player sometimes keeps moving after you've stopped pressing the button. It is very frustrating when you walk into spikes because of this.
Hmm, it doesn't seem to be doing that for me. It might just be an issue if your browser isn't sending the "key up" events quickly enough, if the browser is running slowly.

The setting feels a little derivative. The "puzzle-platformer where you're stuck in a dull facility with an emotionless rogue AI" has kinda been done to death at this point, and it doesn't have the humour or clever writing that makes games like Shift, Portal, Exit Path and Give Up stand out. The mechanics are nothing new, but the puzzles themselves are good and worth playing for. Ultimately it doesn't feel terribly original or memorable, but it's a good game for simple platformer puzzles. I'd give it a 3.5/5, but since there's no such thing as a half-star, I'll round that up to 4.
I agree that it isn't really anything special, and this was my first time making a game of this scale so I didn't really expect it to be. I definitely think my next games will be a bit better in that aspect. :)

This is a very well made and very clever game, on all accounts. Really great and I look forward to more from this developer.

Perhaps you could have the secondary door on level 8 open automatically?
or something? would be interesting to see what happens at the end.
