I don't think I can ever like a game where I sink time and gain nothing out of it cumulatively to the point where I can improve my standings the more I play. I am fine if I cap out because at some point games would be silly if they were ALL purely grind to win, but this game is just not my type. I hate the thought of "wasting" an hour just to die at the end.

Played this version after RFIII - this was fun but number three is definitely an improvement (you can't accidentally enter dangerous terrain, regen instead of shrooms,,...).

Damn those spiders and blink frogs I was like 2 floors away from the bottom and they just ganged up on me outta nowhere, and beat me to death.

I can definitely say 3rd game was easier for me to win. And more fun. Though... Won with a pure (no books found) fire mage because lucked out and got the core after passing through the sewers.

I think there may be an occasional bug in the floor generator. I ended up on a level consisting of two rooms that didn't have doors to anywhere else and no downward stairs, essentially trapping me in a prison.

I'm shocked that finishing the game was a hard badge. I don't know if I just got lucky or if I've played too many dungeon crawls, but I cleared the game on my second try with a necromancer. Anyway this was a fun game with very simple mechanics, and I liked the homage to NetHack.

@TakashiKurorai I don't know how you kill things so fast but I guess that's just a different way of doing things. I believe I m pretty conservative gamer. :D To me, every single death matters and I do not accept that "one more time" mindset that plagues the genre. I usually approach the classes without any risk of losing, and minimize the clearing time after that.

I BEAT THE GAME! WHOO!
There isn't a clear way to win because it really depends on what maps you get and what you find. I definitely recommend getting the Book of the Warrior & Book of the Necromancer if you can. The Book of the Warrior has toughness, shroomology and stone wall, which bolster defence and/or health; and the Book of the Necromancer has life drain, which allows you to drain health from your enemies to heal yourself. Also, scrolls of enchantment are very helpful to boost your weapon damage. I didn't play all the classes, but I personally found fire mage to be the most effective no matter what map you were in. PunyMortal's top comment was very helpful, but remember it might not always work due to the randomness of the floors, enemies, and rewards you encounter.

There's actually altogether 8 types of area within this game. Besides the first few floors, there are arcane tower, iron fortress, under grove, crypt, sewers, magma core and ice cave. To me the arcane tower and ice cave are the most challenging.

There seems to be lots more types of world to explore (that i can see in the loading screen) then i am able to get. I'm not very good at the game and have only made it to floor 11 at best. And i can only really play as the neuromancer..... are the other world dependant on what character you play as? I want to explore them all! Its a great game though, thank you. :)

Played this after beating Rogue Fable 3 a few times. Storm Mage, won quite easily on my first try. Rogue Fable 3 is significantly harder, I'd say. Good backward practice for this one, though.

Nothing like that old bug where it starts giving you the same 'branches' over and over. With it being Iron Fortress and Sewers. Man, did I die so much before I realized I got hit with that.

man I played this for sooo many deaths, and I finally won and the achievement didn't take... So I stopped... but now I have to finish the achievement so I'm not left unfulfilled when I start playing RF III

Found a bug: If you stack a bunch of skeleton bones in the same spot the all rise and attack you with so much strength it will most likely kill you right away.

At last... Thanks PunyMortal, used your strategy and today with a little luck (inferno sword 10 damage found level 2 ^^) I finally got to the end. What a hard but addictive game...

Lobz: Use a Scroll of Enchantment on the staff. With some luck, you can loot better versions, or buy them at merchants. There are also some items that will increase your magic powers.

How can staff damage be increased? I have +100% eletric offense and my lightining staff still does only 5 points of damage. Are the staffs supposed to become useless at higher level, or am I missing something?

Just managed all classes in under 45 minutes. My tip for the ranger is just to ignore range and turn him into a melee/fortitude tank. Hope for some good weapons.

The game plays quite differently as a maxed out Warrior (Melee, Fortitude, Focus) with a +8 Long Sword (28 damage!), and a +5 Dragon Scale Armor (plus some other armor). Not one decent ring, though, but you cannot have it all! :-))

Some silly records:
1st scroll found on level 13 - Well of Wishing! 2nd Well of Wishing on level 16. No other scroll in the game, none looted, none at merchants. I actually won this game with my standard Staff of Acid, but it was very hard.
Most unused keys: 6. Not a single locked room!
Highest weapon level: +7 Long Sword. After increasing its level to 5, I found 2 more in chests. +6 Inferno Sword.
What kind of strange / funny / useless records do you have?
