I just used the wand of draining on an ice golem, but apparantly he reflects it or something, causing me to take damage instead of getting healed. "Level 9 ranger killed himself in the vault of Yendor". RIP

Kinda wish the times on the leaderboard weren't clearly bugged, I just managed a 10:02 and want to know how far behind the "real" scores I am.

Barbarians need to have bonus armour or a health potion to begin with, feels like most of my losses on the random challenge come from them.

Marked informs the roaming enemies of your location. Enemies have a random chance to spawn as roaming when you enter a floor.

https://www.kongregate.com/accounts/HunterG443 You can predict not only when the ice bombs will explode (3 turns) but also where they will be placed - the cell closest to the enemy next to you. Helps a lot to know exactly what will happen.

Good concept but the Dev is just lazy to balance the classses. Compare Ice Mage to the other mages and you will see how weak he is comparatably. Too bad, it is fun at first until you realize that the super weak classes can only be done with huge RNG.

The ice caves are way more dangerous than any other area, those ice bombs can one-hit kill you. Maybe I should just skip it next time.

@Rain King: "Draining" reduces or stops your HP and MP regen. "Marked" may inform enemies of your location or make them deal extra damage. I'm not sure of this one since the effects of "Marked" don't seem consistent.

I just noticed that this game now works with the Edge browser! So excited to finally try this after years of replaying Rogue Fable II.

@jhonsmith3485: you get the meat as random drops or from wishing wells, like everything else, and within the merchant's items pool. Each merchant comes with some meat and, according to the Wiki, meat is also guaranteed to spawn every four floors, along with a guaranteed merchant on the 9th floor. So you will be able to grab some food at least five times, on floors 4, 8, 9, 12 and 16. Just carefully explore the said floors and you shouldn't starve to death. ;-) --> https://rogue-fable-iii.fandom.com/wiki/Meat

@stephen21542 Unstable ground also depends on enemy size -- small enemies are unstable on almost anything, even blood and grass, whereas large enemies are unaffected by most terrain except water, lava, oil, or ice. Also some enemies are unaffected by specific terrain types, and flying enemies are immune to terrain entirely.

Never good to use a domination scroll or a charm spell on a fire elemental. Its fireballs still want to kill you. But really, we show up and murder all these creatures who are just trying to live their lives, all so we can steal some glassware? Who's the real bad guy here?

Barabarian is a whole new level of... stuff. It probably might be an idea to straight up remove his ability to equip mana related gear & learn spells since he can use neither.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
did I misunderstand u? I feel the crits are more LIKELY on unstable ground but definitely not 100% maybe 50 or somethin
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@GreenMadman Crits are not random. When on unstable terrain, physical attacks are guaranteed to crit. Enjoy always criting the enemy and never getting crit yourself ;)

SadCookieCat Food is guaranteed every 4 floors, and with the merchant. It's more than enough when you know what you're doing.

"Your level 6 rogue killed himself in the swamp." (I foolishly attacked something with a +2 storm chopper while standing in water.)

Lol. The RNG dunks on you continuously. No or 'wrong' equipment. No food. Enemies that leap out of nowhere to push your face in. Enemies that tank all your attacks, then push your face in. Enemies that REFLECT every single attack right back at you, so you push your own face in. Even the environment conspires against you when you can't even attack with your only weapon because it will kill you. You can tell it's a good game, when despite all that you STILL keep playing it.

Player character: crits once in a blue moon. Enemy characters: CRIT CRIT CRIT normal CRIT CRIT normal CRIT CRIT. Mages having no resistance to their own element, while enemy mages are basically immune to theirs. Non stop loot not meant for the character, ie berserker getting mage only gear, pretty much all the time. Seriously, screw this game.

@gmaster0320: buddy, people are downvoting you because the thing you claim makes the game fundamentally flawed is *literally the entire point of the game.* it's MEANT to be incredibly difficult and unforgiving, with you doing the best you can with what you get. that's the ENTIRE premise!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
other tips: protection is bad it almost never helps don't use the armor that reduces spell damage/stealth it's bad!!! stealth is always the best skill since i said positioning is essential and stealth helps you not getting spotted giving you the correct position while also increasing crit damage I feel like rang/melee does not improve enough. Evasion talent is also very good along with cold/ice protection for elementals which are the most dangerous opponents late game. explore everything till level 10 then try to advance as soon as you see the next stairs skipp optionals HP/mana regen charms are also bad use the ones that give spells instead. extra tip enhancing charms/wands fully charges them so keeping usefull wands to 1 charge and then enhance them can be very usefull

After completing the game several times here are some hints that worked for me and seem to be barely mentioned:
1: positioning is the most important in the game, make sure you can move away get the advantage in narrow halls and use terrain to your advantage. This is why I consider sprint to be the best skill, gives you some distance and allows you to make most effect of terrain. Swiftness and other move effects are also very usefull as well as some wel planned knockback skill
2. Area damage: you'll want some strong are damage that can handle multiple enemies especially the mandatory enemies at the end and the ones that guard loot chests toxic cloud/confusion/disease are the best for this getting this as a spell for any class is a good idea (except barbarian maybe)

Nice game. Clearly many hours have gone into making it. I like the simplicity of it. Just select a hero and off you go. Life is too short for long intros and lengthy learning curves.

People are only downvoting my comments because I'm right and they don't want to admit that this game is flawed on a fundamental level.

@gmaster0320 Interesting, I've always seen it as the opposite: The enemy AI runs through shrooms or lava without a care in the world, but when dominated they get smarter and avoid them.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I want to love this game, but the difficulty curve combined with absurd game mechanics feel like the player isn't just at a severe disadvantage, it feels like the dungeon itself is against you sometimes. The player is slave against the AI, which seems to always be performing at top speed when the enemy utilizes it, but when I dominate an enemy, or summon skeletons, they behave like toddlers, running into walls, and letting the enemy pelt them with fireballs and arrows from a few tile away.
If the AI was severely improved, I could say that this game would be near perfect.

@M idas45 The flying ring/boots give you the status effect levitation, which stops you from being unstable from terrain (guaranteed crits), and also stops lava damage and allows you to fly over pits. It is more than possible to win 90%+ of games when you know what you are doing.

when i opened a stone wall room about for enemies had haste and after I cast a fireball one guy got healed and everyone started chasing me. wtf?
