After playing way too many games think I'm pretty confident what the tier list is:
1) Ranger, Rogue - Top because strength build with evasive + either rogue's full suite of individually good but not broken abilities or STRAFE on ranger can take pretty much any RNG and is robust to player error.
2) Enchanter, Necromancer - Laugh at item RNG. Easiest to learn. More fragile than tier 1.
3) Storm Mage - Stands a bit better than the other elemental mages due to absence of many electric-resist enemies and power of shock.
4) Ice Mage, Fire Mage, Warrior - More sensitive to RNG and require resource conservation (applies to storm mage too). Warrior is more error tolerant than the elemental mages but also more RNG dependent.
5) Barbarian. One trick pony. That trick is the best in the game (STRAFE), but bad at everything else. No mana bar and no timed activated ability recharge are both really painful.

It took me nearly a full year, but I finally beat this game.
Checkpoints would be very appreciated, if you ever make another one of these.

I can't count how many times I've tried to get the hard badge, the number of games at this point are in the hundreds... severely lacks balance in later levels

I would love to see the effect rings give a little magic to the non-mages - Toxic Ring adds a little poison, Storm Ring adds some spark damage, etc. I would be great to see them be more useful than just the resistance.

Does anyone else hope that they get 3 Blink scrolls from a wish or an acquirement scroll to deal with the final level? For the Level 16 with the side entrances, 3 Blinks can get you right to the Goblet, leaving most of the bad guys untouched. (I do feel badly sometimes when I use this...but not for long!)

@Stephen595 Wow thanks for the tips. By the way, after completing floor 16 for the first time (if you're curious, I used necromancer) after 19 deaths, I think that this game is a cool game with unique concept and mechanic not only about combat and exploring but also about strategy and tactics.

@Candraedra If you cannot close the distance and there are no other enemies, you're right, avoiding would be best. If you really wanted to go there, you could try dragging enemies from the next floor (would work best with charm, as confusion might be hard to get them to agro the ballista).

I'm always hoping to get Strafe Attack. Barbarian with a good axe, strafe, and a vampire ring helped a bunch to get my first under 45-minute win.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
thanks stephen, will keep that in mind. in that situation though, I didn't have that spell, and as I said there was no other enemies anyways. I didn't think about attacking while it turned, I actually had the option to get in close to the first one I encountered because I came out a door that was only a few squares behind it.

@AwesomeSpaghetti Food is not a matter of luck. There is more then enough guaranteed food in the game: floors 4, 8, 12, 16, merchant on floor 9, every merchant that spawns and final floors of side dungeons. If you find you are always running out of food try and reduce the amount you rest. Use the terrain to your advantage, unstable ground and corners are very useful for reducing how much damage you take. Another tip is to only eat food when you are starving and have 1/2 your HP left. This is not required, but will help your food last even longer.

@Candraedra For Ballista charm an enemy to tank fire for you while you close the distance. After you get next to a ballista it is easy to kill by moving around it in a circle, attacking as it turns.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
wow, that was a huge jump in power, was playing enchanter, went from goblin brutes to ballistas, seeing no other enemies for them to target I figured confusion wouldn't help, and I tried fear but they were immune, I guess I was supposed to just avoid them?

I absolutely don't like the hunger mechanic. It completely depends on luck rather than skill and it ends a few good runs.

@marley1163 With barbarian try and save sprint, so you can use it when you are in a bad situation to get to a corner or corridor. From there you should be able to clear out a large amount of archers and mages as they come around the corner.

Oh no! He's got a Barbarian with decent armor and a good weapon! We better put him in the middle of 5 Archers and Mages with 5 strong creatures next to him! I just can't beat this game with the Barbarian!

Not even Indiana Jones' Sling has the same range as a bow xD
What about: increase damage or add some effect and decrease range?

@casiv As it is possible to get an 80-90% win rate (or 95%+ on certain classes) I do not consider this game to be rng dependent, especially considering most of the deaths are from mis-clicks or poor decisions.
The dev has stated he is against anything being carried over between games, because it is not the type of game he wants to make.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
needs meta achievements and talent points that are saved between games. something we can grind to make the game less difficult/rng dependant

The whole auto exploration seems omnipresent- it avoids empty rooms, fails to open doors with enemies directly behind them - instead insisting exploration is complete, and says exploration is only partially complete when hidden rooms are involved giving away the whole surprise. Other than this 5/5

@elstan
You should have gone back up the stairs, any enemies adjacent to you when you do will be brought with you. you can use this to bring down the size of an unimaginable horde.

make it through 8 levels, it was a challenge, but fun. Spawn into level 9, 7 mobs on screen, 1 mob spawner and like 2 clicks later a wall breaks down revealing 3 more, and i'm stuck in the middle of all of it...fml

Loads to 99%, or to "Load Complete" if I open cinematic mode while it's loading, but nothing else happens except a gray box covers the bottom right quarter of the game window. In cinematic mode, the box doesn't appear until I click on the game.

There is no need to aim when you use tab. It works fine with melee for me. Just to make sure, do you have a weapon equipped? If you put it in the quick slot you need to use q to attack automatically.

I think it is good but I think you should be able to get a permanent pet and to feed and evolve it otherwise it is 5 out of 5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@devilsblight The 'Timed Gates' are just that. They will lock permanently if you don't find them soon enough. It might also lock if you leave the floor, not sure.
You can use Blink & Teleport (if you're really lucky) to get in if it's locked and you really want - the switch inside will let you back out. Same for the Keyed Gates.

the next floor level stairs are behind a gate, and I don't have a key to get in. i killed all enemies on the floor fix this pls
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's not loading for me. It gets to 95% then it stops and there is a gray box in the bottom right corner. I don't have ad blockers and adobe flash is activated. How do I fix this?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Just had a game with fantastic RNG, and thanks to a pit dropping me right on the edge of the last area of Arcane Tower I was able to save 2 blink scrolls and get a +5 Storm Chopper Axe behind a timed gate I couldn't open later on as a result. Still don't know how timed gates work, I guess sometimes you can get really stupidly lucky. Had Necro with almost all +5 equipment by the end, even though I wasted some gold buying Boots of Speed only to get the same pair two levels down. I really hope I didn't use up all my luck for the rest of ever, does steam have a more updated game?

Followed the guide https://rogue-fable-iii.fandom.com/wiki/Ranger_Guide, got 10 Fortitude, +3 Long Bow and lots of other nice stuff, seemed unstoppable (200 damage crits...) - then in level 4 sewers got ambushed by 2 boa constrictors, got constricted, couldn't do anything, some other creatures joined, and the "unstoppable" ranger died.

This game is actually impossible. No matter how far you get, there's always some obstacle in your way. i recently got killed by an ice statue on the second-to-last level, as a level 13 warrior with 70% dodge
