Getting to level 6 is really easy, idk wtf you are talking about...
Whenever one of my runs dies before level 6, it is almost always because I got too greedy (opening a stone door because I have an experience boost active) and couldn't deal with all the enemies. Many of my earlier deaths were because of my reluctancy to use wands and scrolls, which i have now learned to use properly.

Necro is one of the easiest (archer and lightning mage are also pretty easy). But I never use the summon skeleton skill -- life drain is brokenly powerful.

I saw someone say that necromancer is the easiest to win with. However, I think that if you don't want to cheese then the archer is the best. Just make sure you have a higher tier bow and strafe shot and it shouldn't be that hard.

Tip for new folks: Necromancer is probably the easiest class to win on (its the only one Ive actually won with) just put all your points into focus and stay behind the wall of bones. All your equipment should be ones that add more MP buy all the food you can. Its slow but you'll get to the cup at the end!

Seems to be little hard but after few run I started to make notes of health wells, learn warrior tactic and fairly easily run to 9 floor every time. With difficulty spike, it was best to switch between optional dungeon and next main floor to gain exp, but after beating arcane tower, and beating few monster in ice cave(to risky with cold mechanic to clear it), rest was just to be caution and use stair often.

Woo finally got that Hard Badge... I got the Medium badge back in 2019, and told myself then that I'd never come back to this nightmare. Despite that I've come back several times and always failed.
I ran Necromancer and just stacked Mana. Which I know isn't a unique idea, I failed doing it with runs that got passed Level 6 twelve times in total before everything just clicked.
Don't be afraid to run. As long as no one is around you, you can safely use stairs without being followed. And as long as you have food, you can safely run around the previous floor like a madman to regain stats.

Holy **** the difficulty spikes induced by poor rolls of rng will make or break you. Really makes strategy feel pretty useless when a minor amount of bad luck will just instantly end the run.

It's games like this that demonstrate most clearly why no Roguelike stays true to the original Rogue's formula: because it's incredibly frustrating to spend what feels like ages carefully levelling your character, only to fall prey to a supremely unfair trap you couldn't have possibly seen coming and wind up with absolutely nothing to show for your efforts.

Met my first crystal golem at level 18 after clearing two subdungeons. I didn't know it reflected all spells. I'm a necromancer and the reflected spell was life spike. At this point, my spell did 16 damage per turn. Killed myself amazingly fast. Shouldn't this restore my own life??? Anyway, I'm pissed.

Used necromancer as recommended to finally get the BOTD, seems way too hard to go up levels unless you are extremely lucky.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Win streaks? Awfully bold of you to assume I can even win once, let alone multiple times in a row. I have a 31 loss streak. I feel sorry for anyone trying to get the BOTD because it took me 4 hours and 15 minutes to get the Harrowing Experience Badge.

Ok nevermind my previous comment... after three games in a row without finding any meat, the fourth time I found six.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@ocramot Meat is the only food available, it can be found as loot or sold by merchants. Food shouldn't be too much of an issue unless you're spamming rest.

Storm mage is probably the easiest class to get to level 6. Beat the game as one. Use water to your advantage, get shock asap.

What is the point when the game just dumps you into a room upon descending the next level that just kills you because there are 10 mobs in there waiting to kill you?

I do not get why some complain about difficulty, are they just running around fighting everything in sight? I have played similar game on mobile and it took several deaths to figure out sometimes its wise to let character starve so you wont risk running out of food. This game is actually easier in that regard that eating actually heals you instantly some. Playing it safe as necromancer by poisoning enemy and then running away plus fighting one at a time whenever possible I easily got to level 6 in first run.

Is there a way to counter archer as a melee? There's always two at the same time and I cant do anything because of their aim.

game is really interesting. onlything i dislike is 1 you run out of food to fast and 2 its mostily luck. of what you get and how many animes will you see together.

Am I doing something wrong? Online guides claim it's super easy but I'm getting merc'd on or by floor 4 and I only hit character level 5 ONCE.

It feels like I only find vampirism items and strength gloves when I am playing a non-melee class. In fact, I did about seven knight and barbarian runs hoping to find one early on (died every time, but I am getting the hang of them slowly but surely). eventually I gave up and did an ice mage run, and there, lo and behold, gloves of strength (hand armor, +6 STR) five tiles away from where I spawned in on floor 1. Gosh darn my luck

What does barbarian's rage do? And do we, in any point, get to play with a different race? Because there is that specification on the character sheet, but seems pretty redundant.

@DagrouZeBlackOne, best way to get through level 4 of the Arcane Tower (if you get the version with the four different rooms) is with three scrolls of hellfire. If you don't have those (or at least one for that last room) that's the toughest level in the game.

ardane tower, white gate teleports me on en island rounded by lava, my archer died burned by fire imp and electrocuted by blue towers! unfair!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I feel very intelligent and lucky: game said that there is clicking/grinding (timed gate). I used teleportation scroll and it put me right next to it

#Psykiris - it's true, sometimes the situation is simply unwinnable, especially when playing without range or spell abilities. I've used the refresh button sometimes when a situation looks hopeless and tried to approach the situation in a different way. The trick is to catch the hopelessness before you die.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@Strabbo - I have a ton of wins too, that doesn't mean the game isn't broken, or doesn't outright put you in situations you can't win. I've been a barbarian, given only mage items, and then pit-fell through a floor into a pack of only ranged enemies, that also broke a false wall.
What's my play when I have 40hp, no range abilities, my only items affect mana(which I don't even have), and I'm looking at multiple fire/storm mages and enchanters? There isn't one. You lose. Restart.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
if you find a well of wishing and didnt get an item you want just refresh the page then click continue save and you can reroll
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@dogbom - the game is not unwinnable; I've won 221 times, and that's just on this PC. Keep trying and you'll get there.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
this game isn't about skill, it's about as getting as far and lucky as possible until you encounter 8 enemies that you don't have any chance to beat and you die at levels 5-8 to the dumbest stuff. this game is unwinnable and frustrating, and losing everything is just stupid
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
just wondering, was this inspired at all by dungeon crawler stone soup? its very similar in gameplay and content, just simplified, with a better graphics engine. the textures for the walls are similar too

For anyone who has trouble getting passed the army of monsters in the last room, save a scroll of blink for the end and then teleport straight to the goblet. You can then grab it and win the game without fighting the final wave of beasts.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
You should be able to aim at the ground, like with the fire shrooms, because then you could shoot a fireball at some grass to ignite enemies out of reach, or a ball of lightning at the water.

Partied it up with 10 summoned skeletons and the Goblet Of Yendor!!!! Level 20 Necro!!!! Infectious disease when you open sealed doors and run!!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
So, played Necro and worked well, used summond skeletons which is a huge help and the best spell by far was disease. Before you open a door, cast skeletons and stand back, when you are far enough back and see a gap, cast disease and run!!! You will kill a lot, especially if you have disease charm, that is really powerful. If you are low on health you can also create a skeleton and use life spike on it, charging you up.... Love this game, just need more enchanted stuff and more health vials, it gets real quickly in this game when you get swamped.
