Ok, got the hard badge with ranger. Previously tried it with duelist but always fail in the 3rd winning try. Ranger is less reliant on gears therefore less vulnerable from awful drop runs, plus you can focus on just one stat (dex)

I just killed Yndor and then died by "falling to my death" while wearing a levitation ring. I've died a great many times, but that one's different and really weird.

Oh, encumberance is bad. I thought the more encumberance you have, the more armor you can carry. But it's the other way around and encumberance is basically just an unnecessary complicated alternative term instead of merely calling it weight?

@Balbanes: Dunno. But I know I absolutely loved the previous ones, got super addicted to them at some point, but this fourth entry just doesn't do it for me AT ALL. They tweaked a lot this time, maybe too much for my taste.

@unknown12121414 duelist and storm mage. Duelist for the attack resets/strafing and go all in on speed points; storm mage for the levitation ability - often I do everything I possibly can to get a shield + shield block.

@Balbanes You should try rogue. Bear traps + sleep bomb makes this class extremely good at getting away from conflicts. Plus, you can lure your enemies into fire mushrooms to damage them or uneven terrain to get critical hits in.
Also, hold shift to sprint. Good luck!

@jascaicps1 thanks for the hints. What's your favorite class btw?
I really like rogue, but I think necromancer is the best at cheesing enemies + bosses although necro mid-game (before level 9) is BRUTAL.
Also correction: the seed was 121413364698.
Finally, ice staff is awesome.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@unknown12121414, yes that's what the safest way is - bonus if you have shadow step (teleport next to enemy). Spear/axe also helpful depending on situation and levitate (when ice is on a edge or corner of a bottomless pit).
Levitate, you can use the treadmill thing on The Core side dungeon to be protected against melee minions. They move one space towards you, treadmill sends them back one space XD.
There's one i'm not 100% sure, is if you make kraken go to sleep = tentacles retreat back to kraken.

By the way you can yeet the frost king into the bottomless pit, which insta-kills him and you still get the hammer lol

I got the seed 121413364693, and was able to set up a rogue with discord I + power shot II + GUN and deal over 60 damage with a single shot. The journey was tough but it sure was satisfying gunning down the cultists

@Naud1234, winning 3 times in a row requires patience. This is a turn based game so can take as much time as you want each turn (unless you're doing the sub-45 minutes badge). Easiest but longest way is to farm everything including the two side dungeons (obv don't do them if it's very incompatible), sell anything you don't need and buy the best equipment, skills, stats for that run and load up on potions

This is one of my favorite games here, but I can understand the hate if casually going for the BotD.
More than raising your character's skills, this game is about honing your own, over many deaths.
To survive four levels for the BotD:
1) Retreat to fight enemies one on one.
2) Fight at full HP (green mushrooms) and MP (purple or wait).
3) You can skip the 4th level miniboss.
4) Try the Cryomancer: staff vs single enemies, Cone of Cold vs groups.

Been here since 2009, not being able to go into the game and simply get the badge is.... disappointing.
Game itself is good, as far is I can remember.

This guy really needs to go back to school, unless he's doing this on purpose. Is he TRYING to consistently beat his records of unenjoyability for these RF games? After wasting at least a half hour being careful, just managing to survive, getting to the exit of merely the 3rd floor, 3/4 Upper Floor, I have only the enemies guarding the stairs down to the final Upper Floor. Then, the 2 centaurs charge me, I get 2 hits off from being a ranger, and once they reach me:... they one-shot me. Nowhere near enough experience/level/armor to be able to protect from it, healing won't even factor in, no reason they're that strong except "fu** you", a literal 100% impossibility of winning. Every time I've ever played these “games” it's like “I'm waiting for the fun part.” It's like death_unites_us said in Final Fantasy 10-2 about the Cactuar shooting mini game: Nothing is fun if you're doing it perfect and at any second the game can just decide “Uh you lose.”

Oh, Your Majesty, I don't want to enjoy the experience of walking on a tightrope for two hours in the game and have to run away. Please spare me.

Having a good win rate with Ranger, here's a quick guide: 1) Try 1-2 times each class to get familiar with weapons/items/abilities/ennemies. Then only Ranger. 2) Aggro one mob at most when possible, aim for crits on unstable terrain, defeat healers and summoners first, overuse SP to flee and attack safely. Empty all floors, note position of merchants/librarians/etc. Careful: clouds block arrows, but you can sprint through without taking damage. Final boss has 3 phases, in the 3rd you need to attack and pick the goblet to slay the boss. 3) Stats: prioritize Dex, Str can be raised to 12 for HP, Abilities and better armor. Ignore Int. Focus Evade/Block/Reflect and aim for 5-8 Prot, 7-9 SP, 80-110 HP. 4) Abilities: Perfect Aim+2 then Strafe Attack+2. Max Tunnel Shot and Power Shot by the end. 5) Equipment: Crossbow is BiS, and take a good 1H Melee Weapon, ideally ignoring Armor. The best armors have Reflect/Evasion/Block or bonus HP, enchant them and not the weapon. 6) Don't lose hope :)

I just won a seeded game (Storm Mage), but the Game Records doesn't show it. Trying to get the Hat Trick badge (3 wins in a row). Anyone else encounter a failure to record wins?

Was so surprised to win it that I (luckily) saved a screenshot with the seed! Storm Mage 64908552682. Str: 12; Dex: 12; Int: 17; 2 levels in: Lightning Bolt, Summon Tornado, Aura of Death, Shield of Ice, Confusion, Fortitude. 1 Level in Shroud of Wind, Mental Clarity, Magic Mastery, Enchant Item. Ended with 120 HP, 31 MP, 3 SP. Hope it helps!

Finally beat this and got the medium badge. Played as barbarian. Clear all possible dungeons to get as much stuff as possible. try and get special items and then enchant them, that's the only way you can get overpowered.

duelist 9:51 seed:115859796105. new record out of nowhere, early ring of learning but first melee weapon (broad sword) at second last floor before yendor, got my fastest yendor ever, 9 speed points with 2 power and 4 energy potions to strafe attack bosses in few seconds

@kvank I had the same problem in my first runs. As I became more experienced as a players, I manage make better use of items specially potions, scrolls and wand. Also, your speed management is often key between success and failure. I have finished the game 15 times now, but my success rate is around 20-33%. 50+% if I play Ranger, Duelist or Necro.

had something actually promising, like i felt so strong and killed things with ease even in vendors lair and then i get a floor with like 4 liches, i nearly got all four at the same time, but then died cause i had no ways of recovering health any more cause it took me too long, aside from charging my weapon and life tapping but there was just too much, cause i needed to focus on the liches cause other wise everything returned, and it's like... how do you even beat this once??? i've had things that felt strong and then it just can't ever keep up the second the game ramps up cause it like damn near triples in difficulty from floor to floor some times. this was the strongest i felt and i didn't stand a chance and there was more stuff to come after too.

In version III I would abuse levitate and hang out over a pit to pick off the enemies. Sucks that I can't do that anymore.

i love this game and every new versión change all the powers that is a challenge i miss the old burst but now was a bigger challenge some times the game remember me the legend of zelda but better thanks for your eford

I suspect that some who negatively compare RF4 to RF3 aren't aware that SP gives you a free movement if you hold shift. This is extremely powerful. It makes it easier to avoid getting surrounded and to stay out of range of dangerous melee enemies, and makes (upgraded) strafe even better than it was in RF3.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The stat drop-down used to be much easier to understand, upgrade, and make sure that you were upgrading the right thing. I like the detail you've added to the characters appearance wise, but other than that, the enemies are way stronger, no matter what character class you pick it seems like the enemies have way more special abilities, like haste or their attack style being too quick for your character to dodge. It's too easy to get surrounded. Also a downgrade that you can no longer hold onto mana or health mushrooms in your inventory anymore. Clunky UI that is less user-friendly, you practically have to memorize the smorgasbord of keyboard commands before you can play. Definitely a downgrade from RF2, about to check out RF3 to see if that one fares any better than this. I appreciate the effort you put into this game, though.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Rogue Fable II is my favorite, this is a major downgrade. There are more controls than necessary. I miss the original point-and-click style of the game. It used to be only C to open character menu, from there you could click once to easily switch between weapons or projectiles to throw, and only click once on the stair tile to go up or down.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I am a BIG fan of RF2 and 3, beat the game some dozen times. Really liked some updates on this version but the necromancer in RF4 is awful. Also, I get the feeling that it's so hard to get actual cash in this version!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Downgrade from Rogue Fable 3. You do less damage, enemies do more, you have less health, enemies have more, leveling system is worse, talents only go up to level 2 meaning less effective, attribute leveling has little effect, you have less range, last boss is a fricking joke with the health, damage and mobs helping him, strafe attacking got nerfed to become useless, ... Some people may like this more, but it just feels like it was made more difficult for the sake of difficulty, rather making it a tough but "fair" challenge.

Let me expand on my thoughts, my previous comment was posted in the heat of the moment lol!
Been enjoying the Rogue Fable series for weeks now after my discovery. Highly addicting & fun games, but a lot of what I loved about RF2 & 3 didn't transfer over to this game. I loved playing fire mage in the previous games but here it seems all the mages are barely viable. Range got reduced, fire mage has pretty bad talents etc. The healing system is very unforgiving compared to previous games. Loved the shroom mechanic in RF2 & got used to the healing aspect of RF3. But here you have no shrooms to stack in the inventory nor the healing over time. In RF4 you are dependant on on-use shrooms and if you're in a tricky situation without any around you better have meat and potions.
And then there's the unbelievably difficult final boss...
RF2 & 3 were hard games but this is a different beast entirely.
Thanks for making these games tho Justin, overall very enjoyable experiences all of them!
