Was necromancer nerfed rlly hard? In my last run any skeleton (lvl 14) I summoned would not survive past 3 turns before being annihilated by puny wolves, leaving me vulnerable to melee attacks most of the time. I was lucky to find many INT boosting items and scrolls to enhance my toxic power build, and as soon as I step on the vault of Yendor... surprise! Toxic resistant skeletons. Toxic cloud useless, the archers outdamaged my life pike healing, and I found myself depleting my mana bar to pump out as many skeletons as I could to survive, but it got to the point where Liches spawned and revived skellies faster than I could defeat them, so I made a run for the stairs. And the next floor greets me with Haste Golems that one hit every skellie I summoned, eventually got cornered and one hit my character as well.
Maybe it was just bad RNG, or necromancer run is really that challenging now, but if anyone wants to try here is the seed: 89360412211

I mostly have fun in this game, it's a learned taste for sure but I find it to be a fair balance of randomness to make it interesting, and predictability to make it fair and reliable. HOWEVER. what the heck is going on with the rogue? level one, they are borderline absolutely useless. you have low health, a skill that will almost never find use, and a bow which has lower range than all ranged monsters. rogue in 2 and 3 made more sense because the sneak attack ability was formerly completely innate to all characters (which now requires 2 talent points to get to this point), and rogue was simply the one who utilizes it the most. The whole gameplay loop of rogue was ABOUT sneak attack and now I have to be at least level 4 in order to reach the standard. Rogue was even on the weaker side of RF3, why did it need to be nerfed into the ground?

The game doesn't really explain itself well. Do the bomb monsters do physical or fire damage? Obviously physical because my duelist with 80% fire resistance was one turn killed by two of them.
The enemy heal/summon/resurrect ability is a hair OP in my opinion. The difficulty is enjoyable until it creates impossible loops, which is fair enough for boss fights or just plain bad luck runs.
But really, most deaths are caused by 2x speed monsters (it doesn't specify speed in-game either) and overzealous healers.

For those finding this game difficult check this page out. Can be helpful for beginners. I've beaten the game 3x in a row with 6/10 characters. This little guide definitely helped me starting out. https://itch.io/t/3388918/anyone-have-optimal-skill-progression-for-the-various-classes

Naud1234 and Uroshuchicha, what both of you say seems to be the entire Rogue Fable series. Fine for killing time without expectation, but I personally haven't found any of these to be genuine fun.

I guess this game is considered easier than Rogue Fable III because beating Rogue Fable IV only gets you a medium badge while beating Rogue Fable III gives you a hard badge. Still, this game is way too difficult to ever beat the game 3 times in a row for the hard badge.

I think the most difficult thing about the game is the variation from the previous game. (it takes a turn to use a fountain, enemies attack/move before you move up/down a level, etc.)

@Vartiovuori If you go to the menu there is a "Controls" option where you can remap them to your liking. Hope this helps!

The controls suck. I should not be able to accidentally move when I'm trying to attack, or attack when I'm trying to move.

Damn... This game is hard. Died in the Ice battle against the Wizard of Yendor...
Kudos to you justin wang. This game is an great improvement over RF3. The biggest plus for me was the geatly increased variety of skill/item effects.
Keep up the good work!

the gain attribute potion being limited to only 2 randomly assigned choices seems a bit odd. Would love the choice of all three options (or just add an attribute value in the menu when using a potion)

found weird but pretty useless glitch, i dominated enemy that had heal on hit and when i died and started new game i had 60 something health but max health was normal so not real benefit.

I've played this game for a very, very, VERY long time... the rogue series that is. it kind of feels like the necromancers got a MASSIVE nerf in this iteration... like its actually frustrating. There seem to be less books, staffs, and other power items for magic users all around. just overall, as a caster I feel like I'm a lot weaker now (which really sucks because it was already a struggle in the 3rd game). I dunno if i'm going to play this iteration very much.

3 was difficult and challenging i spent much time on it. this one is...well encoutering a 140hp boss who spawn 50hp mobs when being level 4 or 5 with no stuff... tried many many times and it always finish the same way. go back on the 3

Why offer seed games when you can't copy and paste the seed number. You already made the game hard enough. How about making the controls do the wrong things randomly?

Dandooka: first try your seed and got my second best time ever 12:49 (duelist) there is a pit to drop to vault of yendor and skip both dungeons. then i got lucky with first scroll and got mace+1 second gave me 3x potion of energy that was almost useless, but 1 of the chest triplets had wand of cold that made the run possible, i even forgot to put 2 talents on precision to get 40%more crit damage cause i usually get 14dex to get dash attack that i never got. str13 dex12 my lowest attributes and talents ever to finish a run also. i also had +2 goblin swift bow that gave half my sp:)

77492973551-Storm mage with over 100 Ability power and over 100 hp with too many talent points to spend. (43:26) Both side dungeuns cleared due to AP and HP insanity!

11:29 duelist, broad axe, +2goblin swift bow, +1 gauntlets of strength, ring of learning, weapon mastery and 4 power potions, str15,dex14. insanely lucky run despite not so good weapon and no
flash freeze or wand of cold.

@jappipi Really? so screw this badge, I will only try to win this game for personal pride since I won the other ones (at least 2 and 3, I don't remember if I already played 1). This game is the hardest and and spending almost an hour playing a game only to get lost and having to start everything from scratch is not very stimulating. With a seeded game I can adjust my gameplay based on the scenario's patterns at least.

One thing I'd really like for further versions of this game, or sequels, is a "Random Run" button, to randomly select what class I'll be playing as. I like being able to choose, but I don't want to find 1d10 every time I want to just experiment.

Was auto-exploring (E) as a ranger in the Under Grove when some enemies appeared on screen. Strafe triggered and fired an arrow, which hit a fire pot, which one-shot me. Only time in this game so far a death hasn't been directly my fault.

the war train in iron forge, where you have barely any room to attack is way too difficult compared to any other boss.

There are so MANY items, you can make a lot of builds, i only use ice mage, but in my runs i got fire, toxic, storm staves, even blunt weapons, buuuuut the best item is the draining wand and fire wand, summons in the game are good for the final boss, like...you need the summong or a lot of healing items (prepare to die to him too)

I don't understand why disengaging against bone archers killed me. Disengage doesn't end my turn and there were no hazards around. As far as I could tell it seems like they all got to act when I used disengage on one of them.

@Tenshi_Samshel use right click for ranged attack. Left click is melee, which is why your ranged character moves closer.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Nice. One annoying thing: left-clicking an enemy as a ranged character makes you move closer (very often the opposite of what you want).

The ice mage in the hot levels, just perfect, use the ice cloud on a tentacle enemy and he is pretty much dead, bc he will not be able to move outside the lava
