I've used the Duelist 10 times now, and never gotten past floor 3 - that stepping back ability is crap; has anyone figured out how to use the Duelist with a degree of success? Haven't finished a single full run with any class yet, though still trying.

@Darklumina What do you mean by 'good weapon'? Afaik, there are no class restrictions on weapons. Which is useful e.g. Mage using a bow because enemy is resistant to the staff element.
@musea9 Before you get more frustrated, I think it would help if you have a look at the controls and watch a tutorial.

To get the BOTD I used the seeded game option after pressing new game - that allows you to keep replaying the same map configurations so you can find out where and what the hazards are - for me that was the easiest way to get the easy badge after a couple of tries

jascaicps1's comment is actually right, take your time, a few things to remember is to pay attention to your next few moves (and longer plan, too, but sometime RNG make it hard or even impossible to win with some build); surviving skill/items (healing, Fortitude, Jump, blink, protection, reflect, block...) help you escape hard situation, not damage items; you don't have to kill all the mobs; max level is 16, stats, talents and enchant scroll is valuable, use them wisely; going up/down stairs can be used to divide the horde chasing you; healing cures poison; kill mobs => grab the goblet => kill the final boss

nul!!
beaucoup trop dur
dés l'étage 3, on se prend quasi instantanément à la sortie de l'escalier des groupes de 5 à 6 ennemis qui te saute dessus
c'est juste horrible!!

Really? You need to beat 4 floors in order to get the "Easy" badge? This game is so ridiculously unbalanced I'm often thrown into an impossible situation with my first encounter! I'd go so far as to say that this game is even more difficult than Zelda II: The Adventures of Link on the NES. How this programmer expects people to want to play this, much less pay for it on Steam, is completely beyond me. Someone, please make it make sense, because I just don't see it.

A challenging update to a great game! I'd like to suggest an additional badge to balance-off some of the 'Total Win' high numbers, which I suspect are players just re-running the same map over and over. An additional HARD badge should be: Win once using all 10 classes

I'm calling BS on Duelist being overpowered. It can work alright if you get the right gear, but it's way easier to win with Barbarian or Necromancer.

We're now live on Steam Early Access where the game will be continuing development for another 3 years or so. First update has races reintroduced and 44 new items!

AWESOME GAME! But "Total Wins" Kongregate score category is like "Time spending" challenge. I want "Daily challenge best win streak" high scores.

Hunger sucks for backtracking to unused fountains. I think a better solution would be it only "ticks" for travelling unexplored areas/on the farthest floor
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@fakezero - the hunger/food seems fine. I haven't had a game where I was starving without food. If you're using food as a heal/potion then I think that means you need plan your moves more and fight near mushrooms.

I did a few seed games to test, then 3 barb wins in a row on randoms. RNG is tough.. But once you get to know the game it gets more consistent

I just... Don't enjoy this game as much as RF3. I spent so much time on that game, the difficulty was perfect, felt much more random and diverse. This one feels like the same game, but worse. I like the bosses, kinda, but this game is so much less forgiving, and feels somehow less tactical and diverse. It probably didn't need to exist, tbh. And that's coming from someone who loves, loves this series of games.

Tried to play this game for maybe two hours in total and haven't been able to finish a single full run. Not really enjoying it anymore. Too much RNG for my tastes. There is no sense of progression that would make me keep coming back for more. I guess the easy badge is all I'll get here.

Any general tips for people who suck at rogue-like games? What class to start with, is it better to clear floors or rush to next floors, any items/enemies to prioritize/ignore etc?
If you right click on the game page and select 'inspect' you can open up the console window. Find the Application tab and under localStorage find the thing labeled something like game324380. You can delete the GameRecords file and it will reset your records. This is for Chrome but other browsers should be pretty similar.

I officially hate this game. It is completely ridiculous the number of mobs that you have to fight to get through. The difficulty is way out of skew. RF3 was awesome, this is frustrating just for the sake of it.

I'd like to see the talent bar expand once you hit 7 rather than not accepting anything new you learn, or give you the chance to replace something

Ok just got it for the first time after few attempts so few tips: 1- As in RF III, if you refresh the window the game won't save si if you're a desperate situation you can continue from the previous save. This applies to acquirement scroll, so you can have multiple tries until you get what suits you. You can also have another tab with game in progress (not on title screen) opened so if you dies in your main tab, you then have to save to menu from the second tab so the game will recreate the save. 2- You will most likely need talents from other class 3- Enchantment are more important as it can only go to +2 (without cheating) and you will switch weapons more often than in RFIII. 4- You cannot go strafe/evasive only and hope to survive, rapid move and spells are uber important and should consitute the basis of your game. 5-
That's an awesome game that has been delivered, I can imagine the amount of work needed thanks!
BUT: Why are the Nudist (and Untouchable) parameters useless :O ?

Got a stair crash, reloading doesn't help this time... from the console i get this: [Cannot create item in table: Hands with level: 6. Defaulting to Main table 5 item-generator.js:112:13]
[No valid Zoo-Side-Vaults. 4 level-generator-base.js:352:12]

@Piasa5
The Duelist is overpowered beyond imagination. I once beat a summoner boss in the arcane tower with him never even getting one spell cast.
I'll second that, he's possibly the most overpowered class in the game right now. Doesn't even really need any cross talents to totally dominate the late game. Just keep stacking Speed Points and embrace the time lord. Enemies should not even be getting turns in which to deal damage.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Am I missing something about Duelist, or is it really as bad as it seems? A melee-focused class without armor. Yeah you move around more, but die so quickly. Focusing on a ranged weapon seems possible, but it doesn't synergize with the starting talents besides Strafe Attack.

A couple tips for those who may not have figured it out:
- [left click] for melee, [right click] for ranged
- hold [shift] and left click to sprint (uses the new blue bar)
- encumberance is a count of how much armour you can wear before you lose the ability to sprint, and lose a bit of all your stats except protection. You can increase how high this encumberance count can go by gaining more strength attribute.
- boring looking talents usually give a strong special stat when fully upgraded.
- enchanting is very strong compared to RF3, especially on special armours.
- you dont naturally regenerate like in RF3, but health fountains give you this regeneration for 100 turns after using them.
- the final boss's summons despawn after 4 or 5 turns. this means you can back off and wait for them to disappear, then unleash your skills on the now lonely boss.
I hope this helps someone.
