Very fun game. Not quite as fleshed out as the newer games in the series, but that's to be expected. Regardless of that, this game still has a lot of charm and an addicting gameplay loop.

I just tried using the fireball spell. doing so 1) made me move one space into the line of fire 2) the enemies didnt attack me 3) i could no longer do anything. I canceled the spell which made the enemies attack and kill me. Justin Wang why have you done this to me?

I enjoy the game. My only complaint is it doesn't save my progress. Every time I come back, it resets to the last time I died.

I've managed to beat rogue fable 3 once, but this game I kept running over the fire mushrooms. You have to not accidentally click on them.

The beginning is easy, but floor 5+ is sometimes terrible, especially when you meet ranged enemies that cant be avoid. When mixtures, food supplies and everything at higher floor that can recovery your hp ends (going back to these things is boring), you are f.uck.ed.

a amazing game for short videos!
hate it when I click wrong and thus die though, I waited and then was killed by a snake... well. that happened.

One aspect of this game I remain very fond of is that it doesn't matter how an enemy dies, you still get xp for it. Lead them through Fire Mushrooms and Bear Traps, let their allies pincushion them trying to hit you, collateral damage from Evil Eyes, it doesn't matter. When it dies, you get the xp. It's very nice.

So far, this game provides far more hours of fun than most on Kongregate. A few issues: around level 9, I start finding nets on the ground which I can't take. Once, a merchant appeared on a mushroom, so I couldn't take the mushroom. Words beginning with a vowel should be preceded by "an" (not "a"). So that's "You were killed by an Orc Mage..."

On Dungeon Level 14 I achieve Character Level 20... and that's it, no more experience gain? Not a good idea, especially since the time you can spend building your character is limited in any case by the amount of food available.

When you level up and select Fortitude, the 4 hit points should not only be added to the maximum points, but also to the current points.

Any news on the planned saving feature update?
(I still don't know if this is a bug or a problem of my computer, which in general works well): When I get very far in this game e.g. 12th level or even before the game slows down more and more and gets hardly playable. In the end my graphics display driver says good bye and recovers but I have to refresh the game and - oh yeah back to level 1 again.

uhm at 4th floor i can't find the exit anywhere. i have run along all the walls to make sure there aren't any hidden doors and I am now starving to death without being able to find the stairs

And as said CluelessWonder, a confirmation message could be nice before selling an object, because I wanted to equip a freshly bought item but as I was still speaking to the trader, this item got sold without any possibility to get it back.

I keep dying arround level 10 because I click too fast. But I think it could be nice to have the ability to only undo the last turn, maybe using an item bought to the trader for some gold ?

Imagine my dismay at discovering you can sell things to the Merchants by accidentally selling back a freshly purchased Red Dragon Armor...

Well, somehow, I survived long enough to find the caps, and I'm only on floor 14... Skill 10 and Level 20 are the max, so don't waste any skill points.

I find that 2 points into Melee at the very beginning helps immensely with survival: lots of stuff (including nests!) have only 6hp. Also, 5 points into Throwing is a great idea: 50-50 preserve rate makes ammo last a lot longer, which is vital for Nets and killing Evil Eyes at range.
This is something I agonized over. Same goes for creatures dropping items. In the end the decision to not have mobs drop anything was because I really wanted to encourage players to sneak past fights especially at the end of the game (your supposed to be a rogue after all).
I tried to really make the player desperate for resources and question the value of every fight. If I had made monsters drop stuff I think it would have sent sort of mixed messages if you get what I mean.
I'm not totally against monster drops in general and I'll probably experiment in later games but for this game, the choice to not have drops was sort of inherent in the design I was going for.

Heavily outnumbered by Slime, brutally killed by Penguin, and meet another honorable death by surprise attack from sneaky bastard Ghost in the blind spot, and yet my iron will keeping me up...
I'm almost give up on 15th floor, but I know its not gonna happen!
Just finished this game, 6/5 would play again!

Found a strange bug which happened only once so far: I wanted to kill a monster in melee. I had a spear equipped so my
character moved towards the monster. Usually my character would stop and attack when in reach. But my character went "under"
the monster (distance 0 - same square) which should be impossible. I went away and tried again. Happended again. I could
only kill that monster with something else (I think I used a spell).
Another bug happened in the ice dungeon. I had a potion of resistance and an amulet of ice resistance so the ice dragon does
only 2 damage and all other monsters only 1 damage. When I was down to 3 hp and the ice dragon at 1hp and there the other
monster I knew I could slay the ice dragon and have 2hp left. But instead I died. I don't think that the potion expired
(before I had 6 hp then 3 then dead).

Fun, but I really wish I could use the arrow keys. Also, would be nice if you got achievements or something with the deaths so that there was some form of progression between plays.

I like the game a lot (5/5)
But the game really NEEDS some sort of save game feature. You should be able to interrupt your game or to recover from a browser crash etc.

Some hint: 1) You can level up! Press the "character" button at the bottom right, you start with one skill point. 2) Drink Health and Mana potions when you are at full health/magic for permanent bonus points 3) Invest in Stealth to sneak up to monsters. Melee is good too. 4) Learn how certain monsters move. Lots of warriors can't move diagonally - you can and can attack them with your spear a little at a time. Most archers/wizards will come to you if you hide behind a corner. When they appear, move diagonally towards them and hit them with your spear, then hide again. 5) Ice Arrow spell is a life saver 6) Save your Enchantment scrolls for really good items (like the armor that gives you regular armor and cold protection)
Great Hints! A few more off the top of my head.
1) Take your time when dealing with dangerous enemies. The game is turn based for a reason, you should be carefully considering each action you take rather than rapidly clicking.
2) You don't have to kill every monsters. Especially at later levels it might be better to sneak past or simply run away.
3) The two dungeon branches are strictly optional and will only give you more experience and loot. They are best ignored unless you have equipment that boosts your fire and cold resistance.
4) Look at your map for big empty unexplored places as they often contain secret rooms with good loot.
5) It might be best to hoard your skill points at the start until you see what kind of items your picking up a lot of. Related to this, you can't go into every game with your character build already decided, you have to adapt to what items the game is throwing your way.
Thanks for playing Lorin!

The game straight up freezes on IE11, can't even do anything except sometimes get past the tutorial screen. 0/10 for improper testing.
Yes there are, easiest way to find them is find any empty areas on your map and explore around them. I'll add a bit of a hint in the next update since a lot of players seem to be missing them.

I know it defeats the purpose of a Rogue like, but I want an undo button. Just for the last turn before you died. I sometimes get overzealous and die with multiple health potions in my equipment.

Classic throwback, and I really enjoy the mouse interface, but I miss my keyboard controls. I have clicked on a wrong square and died, but the D-Pad doesn't lie.

I have retrieved the Goblet of Yendor! Thanks for making this great game, I hope you'll be making more similar games in the near future!

Character froze after hitting a fire mushroom on level 5. Everything else works, but character is unresponsive. Pretty cool game, but I hate playing a game for an hour or so just to discover a game breaking bug. I won't be playing again unless this bug is fixed.
Thanks for the feedback. Working to fix as many of the problems as possible. Made the mistake of only testing on our computers with chrome browser and it appears there are all sorts of problems with other setups. I'm going to be adding a save feature with the next update every time you descend stairs as a sort of quick and dirty fix in case it crashes or you want to pick up play another day. I'll just have it wipe the save if you actually legitimately die.

January Update:
- Fixed a bunch of bugs
- Added space bar to immediately cancel actions (in case your pathing around entire level).
More updates to come including kongregate scoring integration.
Not in the next update, I have a bunch of bug fixes to do as well as integrating high scores. I might put in just basic movement, bump to attack, bump to open door etc. on the keyboard but long range targeting will have to wait until I have more time.
