And btw... Adobe Flash is used for this... which is also why in Tutorial 0, it gives you the link to a "free trial" version of Adobe Flash...

When you save the actionscript file, 1st, make sure you're using actionscript 2.0, and secondly, make sure the script file is saved as "Ship" because in "class Ship extends MovieClip" it's class is "Ship".

For whom the ship doesn't move, make sure you're: using ActionScript 2.0 not 3.0, saving both files into the same folder, watching for case when naming files and properties.

can some on pm me telling me how to fix this i've just made the ship and i'm converting it to a symbol and it says "The name "Ship" is already taken. Please use a different name" and does the name even matter?

I like how Shootorial #0 has 381,000 views, this has 227,000, #5 has 95,000, and finally, with a whopping 1/7 (50,000) of #0's views is the fiinal Shootorial that actually defines a full game.

Problem = I used the exact code (with flash pro CS5) it doesn't work, i used the arrow keys, none of them works. PLEASE HELP ME!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
i wrote the code perfectly used the exact version of flash (except mine is pro) but it wont work for some reason the ship just sits there doing nothing D=

I was just getting into it and everything :p CS5 doesn't seem to support the same functionality as whatever version was used when the tutorial was made when it comes to the programming the MovieClip imo. Plus ActionScript 3.0 is now available to use.

F:\Documents and Settings\Linux\Desktop\New Folder (2)\Ship.as, Line 2 The class or interface 'movieclip' could not be loaded.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
my ship wasnt moving...
i wasnt saving after adding a code, after I save, everything works perfectly
so remember..
always save your modifications!!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
you do not need to make the class for the movieclip just leave the
first bit of code out and put the rest in the movieclip

wow i just solved my problem with my ship not moving. ok when you make your ship make sure its in the library and remove the ship you have on the screen then click and drag on the ship picture that is in the library and bring it back to your screen, after that save and test it.

so im doing this on CS5 and using autoscript 2.0. i am having the same problem as most people on here and i cant seem to get the ship to move. i checked to see if all the Ship names were rite and they are. there are no errors. i have taken some programing classes and i know im not messing up anywhere in my code. so please help. There has to be something different between CS5 and CS3 coding or something along that line.

@virtualcrush I know what you have done wrong, you must have named the class for Ship: ship.as or not named it at all.
Start all over from scratch and when your at Page 5. after you put the code, press Ctrl+S then name it Ship.as and save it where your .fla file is.
IF That doesnt work, Go to the library, right click on Ship and click Properties, make sure 'Export for Actionscript' and 'Export in first frame' are checked, ALSO make sure in The Identifier and Class text field, it says 'Ship' with out the marks.
There you go, that should work.

I'm stuck. I put in the code, and when I go to Test Movie, the ship stays where it is. I get a compiler error saying that "The class of interface 'Ship' could not be loaded." What am I doing wrong?

Guys, I've saved when GreenPuffle said too, I have the option to publish, my code is exactly the same as theirs, and the ship won't move. Is it supposed to be a sidescrolling game so you wouldn't be able to see it move on a white background or something? No, because at the beginning of this tutorial you can fly the ship around. NOOOOOOOOOOO. Help!
