For all those with background looping problems, and have copied this tutorial to the dot, Make Sure ALL Of Your Files Are SAVED!!!! a.k.a. there is no "*" next to its name. I had this problem, eventhough i was sure the background file was saved

@exzapel: Make sure you double click the background before pasting on step 8. You should notice the timeline and layers change when you're in the right place.

Okay, so I got everything working, I followed the tutorial 100%, I understand the code, but for some reason it doesn't loop PROPERLY, it loops, but only after it shows both copies of the background, and it's far from seamless, I might as well only have 1 copy of the background if it's going to loop like this.

Query: I've imperted my own background, then resized it in Flash. How can I measure the width of the background?
Can anyone help?

I just started picking up flash again after many years off since I last used it (Flash 3). This tutorial (and the subsequent 7 as well) are hands down the best programming tutorial i've EVER seen. In addition, as of March 5, 2009, I got all the tutorials to work exactly as advertised using CS4 so to those who are having troubles, try FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS. 5/5. Favorited. Terry S

guglu, if you've made your own image, when you import it you have to import "ship.png" and name the Movie Clip "Ship" aswell, otherwise it'll cause confusion, the script you copy in in #1 will look for something that isn't there...

Prince007, if you click on the images, they fill up the whole screen. Then you can click on them again to shrink them back.

a lot of people are having trouble creating ships with transparent backgrounds...allow me to explain what I did to solve this problem.
First, download a good image editor like GIMP 2 (http://www.gimp.org/downloads/). Then open up the ship image you've created. Next, in GIMP click 'Layer' in the task bar, go to 'Transparency,' and click 'Add Alpha Channel'. Once this is done, click the background on your image that you want to make transparent. Then hit the delete key. A checkered background should appear, indicating you have a transparent background. Finally, click 'Select' -> 'None' and save your image as a .PNG file. Replace your graphic in Flash with this one and you should have a functional ship!
Worked for me, and I hope it works for you.

I've created my own ship and saved it as a .png. I've already imported it into my movie and converted it into a movie clip, but the background isn't transparent. Does anyone know how I can change the background from white to transparent? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if I missed something, but why do they show us what the final result product is but they don't tell us to implement the ship and its ability to move.

FredeP, white is white, transparent is transparent. When you choose a color there's should be ALPHA, set it to 0 and it'll be transparent

IT WORKS! IT JUST WORKS!, stop complaining and look better, oh and dont "copy" the code, UNDERSTAND THE CODE, if you just copy it but dont understand it, you're never gonna get to anything
