An eye or camera in three dimensions sees a two-dimensional image. In two dimensions it would see a one-dimensional image. And that's what we have here.
But your view _is_ just a line.
Admittedly it's a thick line so as to be more visible, but the information content is exactly the same as if it were one pixel tall.
