I want to love this game but there are so many minor issues I have with it. Like I'll combo 2 defense matches, but not gain any extra defense. Dido with counter. But any other match the effects are cumulative. Also the grid is small enough that a few times there have been only 1 or 2 matches even available and it would be a useless match but set my enemy up for a big attack but I have no other option. Or it rearranges the board because there are no other matches. With very limited options there is no real strategy. There needs to be a larger grid so there are actual options for a strategy. Also when defense is 36% it makes a match 4 or 5 somewhat underwhelming compared to other options since a 3 gives 100%. Overall the matches are not balanced compared to one another. Finally luck at what drops can give 5+ combos which completely shift the game. Horribly frustrating when the enemy gets it, and it makes matches underwhelming when you get it.

Great game. I especially enjoy how the "combat" is surprisingly deep.
Beat it twice, two tries vs octopus each time.
My advice to anyone struggling: play more defensively.
The computer has a priority to the matches it takes, with attack/special attack if available, followed by rage, energy, counter, defense and healing (pretty sure that's the order).
If it's under ~30% hp the priority changes and it'll take healing first a lot.
Use that information to plan your moves instead of just taking attacks whenever you can.
If you see two attack matches available, take a defense match (or counter), since the computer will automatically take the attack. That leaves you ahead when you take the other attack the next turn (by taking no dmg or having the computer take double with counter).
Avoid using turns on healing matches if you can, since they're only 21hp on a 3match and 28hp on a 4match, which is practically nothing in the last couple fights.

i seem to be the only person having this problem?!?! no matter how many times i make 3 or more it just says not a match. when it quite oviously is a match!? my x1 x2 x3 x4 increases but it just keeps saying not a match and never attacks or anything just flips back over to where it was?! developer any help?

Finally beat the octo. It was all luck really. I mean I got two strings of five and it was gg. I wish it was skill...

final boss does more damage in physical, magic, and rage, has almost triple my hp, and has the benefit of AI telling it how to play and get a dozen combos every turn. games based on luck = not fun, there are better ways of balancing.

I got a double rainbow smash on the boss first form, dealing like 4000 damage. He then proceded revive itself and do a single rainbow smash that left me with 4 hp... He then beat the ** out of me.

Am I the only person who saw a chance to level-grind early on and maxed everything BEFORE the boss fight? Am I also the only one who noticed how terribly STUPID the octopus was being? He had three solid chances to kill me off and he passed them up to store up energy.

I can't get the lucky break needed to kill Goord. It kinda stinks that you have to rely so much on luck to win. I'm nearly fully upgraded too

i wasted an hour on DR OCTAGONAPUS for high max energy and low attack damage??? atleast give something to have fun with

Yeah that last boss is completely legit. Double its power in every way, leave our power the same, so that when we get hit it's half our life, but our hit on the squid is like a mosquito on a rhino. Totally fair.

another game with bejeweled elements? an innovation isn't really innovative if you just apply it to every game you can think of

OMG i got 100% defence and 108% counter on the last boss then he got a huge combo that wouldve killed me, exept i had those, so he killed himself....
one of the best game of this type i have ever played btw...
5/5

Not nearly as good as "Elements of Arkandia". As pointed out, the AI makes poor picks in many cases and the squid healing upon death makes it disproportionately harder than prior fights. Also, I personally found the squid waving his arms in front of the grid blocking the view to be extremely annoying. 4/5 before I played vs. the squid->2/5 after.

Fantastic game, it relies a bit on luck, and the process of upgrading can be considered a grind, but I still think that if a game relies completely on luck it's bad, or completely on upgrades that take too long to get it's worse. But this game has a perfect balance in my opinion of everything, very cute little game that picks up difficulty at a good speed, 5/5.

(up to the boss) hmm this seems a bit too easy...did i just win!? ZOMG, he got all his life back and more. just when u thought u won.. CURSE U SQUID!!!

endboss requires nothing but luck, and if you get a good combo but kill first part with it, you lose absolutely everything in it and it goes to his turn. Coulda had my heals, energy, rage, counter, defense and extra turn but no killed the first part so I lose all that

Played one more, got lucky and beat the octopuss boss. Apparently winning awards no upgrade points at all, and simply unlocks a third pet that's unremarkable, and doesn't appear anywhere else. *shrug* Cute game, but it's like the people who made it didn't even care.

pro tips: open 2-3 round with counters. if there are obvious matching of attacks and magicks, defense/counter bcos enemy will surely attck. try deny rages if possible. when enemy is low on energy, deny them energies. enemy will spam heals when under 100 hp, so dont wait up.

Pretty much cruised through the game until the octopos, but now I've lost more battles in a row against him than I have against everyone else in the entire game up to this point. Don't feel much incentive to keep at it until I get the lucky win it seems to need. Like the game, but it needs rebalancing.

Where is the badges damn!? That needs, because is so good if not have badges is greg's kongregate team fault or he dont know what is a good game!

Lolololol epic counter attack. I was lucky and got two 5 matches in a turn. Then I got 180% counter and 100% defense. Enemy uses the special 5-match-thing and gets a special atk++. He takes 547 dmg. I win. YES
