I hate when people complain "hard for a non native". So What? Music games are hard for the deaf, color games are hard for color blinded and well... I think everything here is hard for the blind. I'm a non native, but I enjoyed this game. Did not get too far (got tired fast), but I surely will return.

I just played this game for the first time and I like it a lot. I will be coming back for more, again and again - even though I really suck at this ;) It´s a fun game to play and that´s all that matters to me.

A couple things:
1) You should probably make it so the game will let you type the given letter. It's constantly screwing me up to have to type "Time" as "ime" or "Tie".
2) Starting with the levels that give you a letter is actually harder than a level where you receive no letters. You can guess any word of the available letters (to see which are right/wrong) on the no letter levels, but only a very small number of words with the given letters, so you get less information.
3)The Hint letters should probably end up as Given letters, rather than being able to overwrite them. I guess that puts you kind of in the same boat as above though, if someone is trying to hint from zero letters to one. But at least at that point, they're opting in. The fact that hint letters are overwritable while given letters aren't makes it even more wonky when you're entering partial words, as mentioned in #1.
Not a bad game, just needs the edges smoothed out.

Great game! And that person that hadn't heard of boyish and garish: I'm an non-native speaker too but those are pretty common words!

I need to get better at not spinning my wheels when I hit a flagrantly non-phonetic word like "asphalt." Losing on level 15 is a real bummer! I also agree that skipping over the given letters when you're typing out the word is extremely awkward, though there might not be a good solution.

DOH - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr - it's done it again - only registered half my score instead of doubling it!!!! I think the gremlins are in lol
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Hey - I just scored double score and before I submitted my score it reflected that, but when I sent the score it only registered 525,677 - should have been top of the score board - oh well - such is life lol

wordspector is moving away from word knowledge into dumb luck --when you get the majority of the letters in a word then have to 'run the alphabet' to get the correct response your score no longer reflects your knowledge or speed of thinking. Your typing skill and luck get the high score Boo-Hiss!!!

The name of this game is very misleading. I read Wordspecter and expected a game about the ghost of all the hanged men in Hangman...

This is... really hard to do in one go. Once I got to six-letter words, my head was starting to ache. A pretty good word game (and we need more of those for Kongregate) but it's really difficult even for English speakers.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
OK. When my score shows at the conclusion of the game, it doubles. But when it posts to the "high scores" it is not doubled. What's with this?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I find it quite hard with that little guesses. Even the games where you have to guess the colour then you get about 10 guesses, whereas here you have to guess the word within 4 or so guesses, and there are lots of combinations.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Inconsistent scoring is a minor annoyance. My final score doubled correctly on the last page of the game as per the rules, but only the single score shows on the high score list. This happens often.

My favorite game! But at game's end, I cannot enter my score in the box on the right side that shows 'today,' and 'this week,' etc. A blue disc just keeps spinning on the game grid. I wouldn't mind, but it is a time-consuming, headache-producing game, as others have mentioned here, and I'd like to see my scores posted, which usually are pretty decent.

its a nice game bcz its a challenge for us as the time is limited and it also help us to increase our vocabulary.i some times find it hard to guess the words bcz im not gud in english but its fun and super game keep it up;)

Oh, and a general hint to other players:
The game tries it's hardest to be obscure and a pain in the dick. If you see a rare letter, like an X, a Z, or a Q, you can be 99% certain that letter will be in the word you are looking for. So if you see that in the pool, try and work it in. It cuts down on the number of possible words, though not always helpfully.

@labridi: Although you can submit practically any English word, all the Mystery Words you need to solve are handpicked and shouldn't include any distinctly British or American words. Some words, like 'cipher/cypher', may have alternative spellings though. @wisygig: The game uses ENABLE wordlist to validate the words player submits, but the Mystery Words are handpicked (about 5,000 of them). @GameKultist: We salute you! ;)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Problem--you can't clear certain letters, only the last letter or all of them; this makes for slower guessing.
As for the vocabulary, some of the accepted words are "British". The game accepted punty, cosher and cipher. None of these are common in "American" English. That isn't a criticism, but it does make it more difficult for some of us.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Nice game, however, the levels are in the wrong order. Since you have to submit an actual word, having a letter revealed actually limits the amount of information you can obtain, at least for a human player. As an aside, it'd be nice to know what word list the developers are using.

Good news everyone! The mystery word dictionary is now updated. No more old English or byzantine vocabulary to suffer. @Kyriva: use the "X"-button on top left corner to pause the game at any time.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I love word games but it uses such byzantine vocabulary it's a bit unreasonable to expect anyone to get through it without guessing.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Good game, it would be better with a break between levels though. An in level pause would be silly, but letting players choose when to start the next level (don't show them the letters yet) would be good.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Some of the words seem to be Middle English according to online dictionaries. Shouldn't all the words be modern english? After all, nobody says "betwixt" any more...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
at later levels the time limit is too short in my opinion, making us need to just ramble in words instead of actually deducing them with the hints given. I like to try and think of the possibilities with the given options, but as you give me ni time for that it becomes more luckbased now, pity.
btw, nonnativespeaker here, and i enjoy it
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Hi all, thanks for the feedback! We'll work on the dictionary. However, a big part of the wordspecting challenge is (and will be) figuring out some of the more obscure mystery words just by narrowing down the possible letters. Think of it like cracking a code, where the meaning of the word is irrelevant.

Woot, another awesome word game, as usual withnew word games like this, the dictionary needs to be edited. For you non-native english speakers who complain that it is to hard for you, DON'T PLAY IT! But for the love of God, don't down-rate it because of that. This is the reason so many good word games have such crappy ratings!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Great game, but some of the words are really ridiculous (and this is coming from a person in america :P).
Anyways to anyone complaining that it's hard for non native people to play.. well that's the nature of a word game. You can't rate a game lowly because the game sticks to one language, as it should
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
You might want to go through some of the words again. Recently, the work I had to guess was "kikes", which is an anti-semetic slur. So, yeah...
