The astro hauler the SS Persephone is falling apart. You - the on-board AI - are being reactivated to perform the necessary repairs. The crew claims that the captain died in a mysterious accident, the same one that conveniently erased your memory banks. Who is telling the truth and who is just trying to buy time to finish the job they started? Welcome, to Starship Murder.
FROM THE TEAM
Making games can wear you down. A few months back as a break from our main project we created a little free game - Hank: Straightjacket. The experience was so invigorating that we decided to repeat this exercise whenever we get burned out. In the weeks before this yearโs Summer Steam Next Fest once more we felt exhaustedโฆ And soโฆ we took a breather and made Starship Murder. This game is an experiment in creating tension. Weโre not exactly sure how people will interact with it :D If youโd like to share your playthrough we would be very happy to watch or read or hear about your experiences in any way.
How to Play
Use mouse to click on things and find the killer...
Press Escape to make the game release the cursor.
Developer Updates
Ok โ I found the source of the cursor drift. There is a know unity bug on some browser that causes this issue. In order to solve it i needed to disable cursor locking. Now you will be able to drag your cursor outside the game screen. This also means that the game can use the hardware cursor now so it should also help a bit with cursor sensitivities issues. Sorry you guys needed to wait for it โ I was a bit occupied this week in my day job.

I liked it actually, sure there where some cursor problem nothing major. There where no drifting for me but there where some odd sensitivity but i for some reason felt it made it more challenging. I liked the concept allot, and the story what very intriguing, good job. However, even though i felt the mouse where not a problem, i do think you really should look into fixing.

i've managed 3 of the endings so far. it's taking a lot of plays, and before reading comments, i wasn't sure how much i was looking for. it was starting to seem like a commentary on the futility of AI understanding how subtle and human/imperfect life is. and how AI could easily misunderstand the nuances if it needs to force the decisions to be black and white. which is pretty cool by itself..
You made my day with that comment :) Thank you!

I'm not having issues with cursor drift but I'm finding the last round absolutely impossible. With 10 errors happening on each of three different areas of the ship, how the heck are you supposed to keep up? Maybe I'm missing something?

Firstly, I want to say the idea of this game is brilliant, it is a very clever game that I have been enjoying a lot. The element that you can use lifelines to listen into a conversation a bit longer is genius.
Having said that, I do have an issue with it. I have played two games now and a lot of the time, it feels like you are trying to catch the killer in a confession, I would personally prefer it to feel more like a murder mystery. The crew could ask each other where each were and the killer could give contradicting answers and such. A few murder weapons could also be in play and the end game screen could recap the details of the murder.
The only other issue with this game is the APM needed to crush the bugs. Personally I didn't have a problem with this, but I cannot imagine trying to play this game on a touchpad.
Glad to hear you like it :) Yee it definitely isn't perfect. The development was a bit troubled... Wrote an article about it if you're interested: https://mynextgames.substack.com/p/our-new-free-game-starship-murder
