This game is great, I rated five stars. I think you should add more content and I might sound crazy but what if there were multiple boats in the same area so that it would be multiplayer and you would be able to fish in different teams or stuff. This game has great potential.
If I had the resources to pull that off I'd love to do that. Like maybe if there was the normal open-RPG world, and at the top of every hour there's a tournament that all the teams have to convene at and compete. Until I can afford to have a team I doubt I could do that, but great suggestion regardless!
Thanks! I really tried to provide satisfying rewards for the achievements, that's something I don't see done too often but it always feels very rewarding to me.

Once you max out your fish collection, would i have any reason to max out the upgrades? Also, what do levels do after i get medium fish?
Nah sorry, there's no content beyond what you see right now. In a full version, the levels are intended to unlock new gameplay features but I only have so many in right now.

Somehow nice to just ride around in the boat, looking away from the actual fishing for a second, would love to just float across the ocean to find new places. :) I liked this prototype, and hope you continue develop this or do something similar.
Thank you! That was something interesting I discovered after seeing feedback on this game. Even though the game is modeled off of Diablo, I realized I can squeeze in a lot of non-combat interactions into this game. Would be cool in future versions to have straight exploration or environmental challenges in it. Appreciate the feedback~
Right now I'm prototyping other games with one coming out in ~2 weeks. I'll be looking at feedback from there to see which game to finish out. If this is the winning game then you'll definitely see more fish.

It seems as if there should be a reeling mechanic upgrade.
That said, I am loving this game. Looking forward to seeing more content.
Would the upgrade just do more damage? If so I am interested in playing around with unique fishermen that are upgradeable. Hoping that covers your needs :)

Hello Mr. Peach. first of all i hope that everything is allright with the covid-19. This was a fresh air in kongregate, i really love upgrades and rpg fishing games. This is a very simple and such a good game, i think you should go for more more more more upgrades, but dont go that straight, if you know what i mean, you should make some barriers or rpg walls. You have a very nice and future test game, if you make this game go full you can make it into steam, ill buy it for 2-5 bucks. The best of lucks for you!!!! PM if you want a free beta tester!
Thanks for that comment, it makes me feel good that I'm on the right path :). I definitely have a lot of ideas on where to take the game so I hope to keep you in the loop on where I'm going!

I don't normally go for fishing games because I find them to be a bit tedious and just boring. However this is freaking fantastic it has a little bit of everything I enjoy in my games. I hope you keep up with it, it's got so much potential. Thanks for that treat.
Thanks that's super encouraging! You probably share the same sentiment that I do, where I enjoy the RPG/collection aspect of fishing games but tire of the reeling minigame after a while. I hope to continue focusing on that aspect and pushing this idea further in the future.

GREAT GAME!! A lot of work to do still, but can't wait for this finished game. Biggest issue I have seen is the fact that fish can swim through walls...
Thanks for playing! Yea I'm thinking the solution for the fish/wall issue is to change the walls to buoys, because they are intended to provide a challenge to the player, but visually I do think it's pretty jarring.

How about adding a prestige system, each time you reach max level you can prestige which would allow the maximum levels to go up by one, whoever is crazy enough to get to level 20 gets the Persistent Fisherman Badge...
Prestige was a reallllly interesting topic for me, and I debated this heavily. I like the idea of a non-idle game with a prestige mechanic, but ended up playing it safe with this one cuz this game is more akin to Diablo or Zelda. So imagine what those games would be like with a prestige. It COULD be fun but I didn't want to take the risk. I will be exploring this topic in a future game.

Speed and healing were the only upgrades that mattered all that much to me. after getting a just a point or two of extra hull, everything else felt superfluous. cargo hold made it so i didn't need to go back to port as often, but that wasn't a huge issue for me past the first 2 upgrades and i even reached a point where i would be out of fish before being out of cargo space which was infuriating. Bass are a way harder fish to catch than swordfish. I believe the first swordfish i caught was at the same run i caught my first koi. Fish upgrades were cool. i think one of the cool things about the multiple fishers is catching multiple fish at a time, but when you get to fishing things like bass you really want to be focusing on a single fish if there was a toggle for the ai that switched it from multi-target to single target that would be nice. 5/5 keep up the good work.
Thanks for the thorough breakdown! That really helps me figure out how to finetune this. I think a couple of those points will hopefully be addressed with just a bigger map and more fish so that you aren't getting fish-blocked so much. I still think that's great feedback because in future maps I can make sure that doesn't happen. One thing I like about this game design that I didn't foresee was the interplay between hostile and non-hostile fish. Unlike say, Diablo which is all combat, with this game I can provide movement challenges (like bass) and combat challenges (like swordfish), and players may end up being better at one over the other, so I'm excited to play around with that concept more.

Yea the only thing that you need to do here is make things increasingly more insane and fantasy-esc. maybe with some special boss fishes that are based on isopods or something that actually come above the water and shoots water bullets at you or something. I dunno but all you need to do here is just make things, more, mental. And you'll have no problem getting this game to stick.
For sure, having a lot of enemies and then mix and matching them for combat would definitely make the player have to think and react more. I really like the isopod idea, they can be like whack a mole enemies where they aren't vulnerable til they pop up. Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for playing! Online is outside the scope of the project right now, but yea it'd be fantastic if I could have the resources to turn it online similar to Stardew.

"Totally agree. I have various things planned like bullet hell boss fights and more RPG elements like an aquarium that buffs another line of stats. I'll be honest though, my goal atm is to knock out several incremental game concepts I have, and after that I'll be choosing what seems to be most popular with players and flesh out that game :)" - Dev.
From a monetary point of view this is surely the right decision, but honestly this looks promising as hell and it would be awefully sad if you drop it. I would buy this on steam for a little money.
One thing I would change, would be the fish escaping in walls.
I really appreciate those words! Given the current feedback I don't think I'll drop this, but it may not be the first game I flesh out. Yea I'm thinking the solution for the fish/wall issue is to change the walls to buoys, because they are intended to provide a challenge to the player, but visually I do think it's pretty jarring.
Sorry about this! It's a known issue but I haven't figured out how to fix it yet. I'm going to be playing with Unity settings and seeing if it still happens in future games.

ok so this might have something to do with it
the text is the background (i highlighted it to see what it said) is "Your browser does not support any of the required graphics"

This game is AWESOME. So addictive. How is there not a "the big one"?? Every fishing game should have that legendary fish thats real hard to catch.
Please continue developing this, it is great.
Heh, no reason other than time. I thought about teasing a giant whale silhouette in the beginning but figured I shouldn't do that if it wasn't in the game. A full version would most certainly have that kind of content though so no worries there. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm kinda curious what other prototypes were planned, considering the potential of this one. But at the same time, I really hope you will develop this into something much bigger, regardless of what the other prototypes look like. And with such positive responses, I can't really imagine you won't. Looking forward to seeing from you in the future! And glad to hear about being on the same page when it comes to linearity.
Actually, you might be interested in the upcoming game. If you haven't already joined I have a discord at https://discord.gg/feafSea to keep up with updates and I've posted the game idea details there already. If not then that's fine because the game should be out in 2 wks anyways. But it tackles both of these topics -> "Incremental permanent upgrades. This could tie into any roguelike reset mechanics.". I believe you are correct though, even if FLF doesn't end up being the first game I turn into a full game, I think I would tackle it eventually because of the feedback. Thanks for the encouragement!

One of the best games I played here since Multilate a Doll, nice concept and mechanics, if it gets more content I will come back for sure, so, yeah, good game

I'm excited to see where this demo goes. It really feels like a demo because it feels kind of empty and I maxed every skill and level within minutes. Definitely increase the map size, add new fish, new skills, maybe new boat types or a skill tree of boat progression, there's plenty of things you can do to make this a legitimate game.
Thanks I appreciate that! Yea it's very much a prototype but I'm looking at finishing it out in the future especially cuz there's been so much great feedback including yours.

Hmmm...those shrimp don't look too healthy...
Like everyone else says, the game has so much potential. I really liked it

Great proof of concept. Like everyone, I believe this needs more content... Oh, and a minimap fix... That one is more on a personal side. around it's edges, it does that thing that old windows PCs do when you move a window when it's really struggling to catch up - where the moved windows leave a trail of themselves behind? - and a collision fix. Mainly talking about the fish running into the walls and being uncatchable as a result for that one.
Thanks for pointing out the minimap issue, no one really mentioned that and I forgot about it. Yea I ran into a technical issue with that but have a good idea on how to fix it next time. Yea the uncatchable thing is actually intentional but I need to change the graphics over to make it more sense, like having buoys there instead of walls. Thanks for all the feedback!

Maxed out everything and truly enjoyed every second of the game. Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to more of your work!

I love this! The starting tutorial felt pretty good, didn't drag or get in the way. Can't wait to see what's next for this game, and anything else you make.
Did anyone consider... pirate battles? I could easily see this concept with a bigger map, lots of room for island, coral, shipwreck scenery and ports with like 'regional' traits (like certain ports pay more for certain types of fish, or will have a special kid of boat upgrade available there only). It's loaded with potential!
Thanks for the feedback! Yea the direction I'd like to take it is a fantasy one. So all the stuff you mentioned, but also stages like volcanoes and such. This game on Switch actually has some really beautiful locales including shipwrecks and coral https://youtu.be/INAHFPXZw7M?t=399. You have great ideas and I do hope to flesh out this game at some point.
For sure, I'd like to have that. I kept it short at first cuz I didn't want the lines to get MASSIVE by the end of a full game, but you're right that in this short prototype I could've extended it more.

Very well made little game. I could play it for a long time if there was more content, etc. I know it's been said many times already :)
Please expand this awesome little game, SO many ways you could go with this, and still keep it fun and simple! Good Job...
Haha appreciate that. I don't really copypaste replies but there's only so many ways I can reword "appreciate it and I'd like to add more content in the future" lol. I'm really excited for the possibilities as well though and this game is a good candidate for my winning prototype concept.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The game is great but obviously short, more fish, more upgrade lines, and maybe even legendary fish that you can only catch one of that would be cool.
