It has come to my attention that this game has fallen behind in the best Adventure and RPG games on the site. It is now behind "Arkadian Crusade". I say that we all give this a 5/5 (as it should be) so we can get this game to where it should be, the best game on the site.

I understand the retro and nostalgia thing (although there is arguably a reason why they don't make RPGs this way anymore), and while it doesn't bother me too much, it doesn't really enhances my exprience either. That said, I find some of the sprites ugly (Sharla, for instance) or just unclear. I can't really stand the music: the few I have heard have weird major/minor mixes, they're pretty repetitive on average and not partilarly original or well done, although they do fit the moods. And at least they're original. I can't stand the humor either. I'll admit I prefer when a game takes itself seriously, and I particularly despise the constant mise en abîme fan games often tend to resort to, where the characters refer to out of context things that hint at us, the player, or worse, address the player directly.
Anyway, I understand the negative comments are mostly a matter of taste. Just creating (and finishing) it is quite an accomplishment in itself, so good job for that.

very nice game. all the basics of a good rpg are there and well balanced. The best part is the humoristic touch you put in it. i've never laughed like this playing zelda or finalfantasy. I'm a bit nostalgic of these games, that's why i really love the one you made. that's a 5/5 for me. Please continue your good work !!!

The most amazing thing about this game is the fact that Psuedolonewolf apparently made best flash game ever made... alone.

(cont.) Many parts are challenging, but the path to get there helps you build up to it. I.e., good balance. Story line is intriguing. The only time I had to grind was to get enough monster fangs to build items. (If you've played Mardek 2, sold your monster fangs to Duegan's father and haven't started #3 yet - go back to #2 and buy the fangs back!) I really dislike that you can only save at map specific points. Also the whole Internet Explorer problem with 'sticky' keys is particularly annoying in this game. None-the-less, I completed the game, earned the impossible badge (though I haven't received it yet - grr), and loved almost every minute of the hundred-some hours it took.

Best game I ever played. The metaphysical system is well planned. As student of that I'm surprised that PLW came close to getting it right. I've read many Babylonian history books & like the many references. Except, If Mardek's mother is al (of) Inanna (aka Ishtar - goddess of sex & war) why is he such a dolt around Elly? The boy needs to be, uh, intimate and she's just purrfect for him. The humor I read smilingly. There is genious in the dialogue. From "priestitution" to Vern's second 'quest' to half the stuff Solaar says - great. I've trimmed this alot and decided to split it.

meecus, when there are weapons with drawbacks, you shouldn't be able to just get a passive skill to completely ignore the negative condition, and still get full effect of a good passive skill.

i find it awesome that there still are things in this game that happened in chapter two, like the dreamstones, it's logic if the green letters are deugan if you read the story, and the blue one's emela.
also the bed where someone lied in by the water temple, that was deugan, and the water guardian was emela, because of the WET and MUDDY guard uniforms in the water temple.
and that is because the ufo of moric crash landed in the LAKE of canonia.
and the business that emela had to attend was guarding the waterstone, because she also stopped mardek from heading west in chapter 2, in the water temple.
So i'm allmost sure deugan and/or emela WILL come back in the story in chapter 4 or 5...
and now i'm wondering, why did i just spend 3 minutes writing this while no one will read this? xD

I'm sure someone has HAD to have said this a long time ago, but I just realized. In the beginning of Mardek 1 (the prelogue, when Mardek and Deugan are saving the princess), Mardek looks exactly like Bartholio. Maybe Bartholio is Mardek's long lost brother? :O

@loopspainter, you can sort your items on type by clicking the arrows next to the trashcan. This is also discribed in the help section of the menu.

This is not a game. This is a masterpiece.I've just finished the game with the impossible badge, and this is the most fun I've ever had in years.Even better than playing MW2 at my friends house. The dialog is amazingly great I never skipped one line. The gameplay is perfect, not once did I need to grind for a boss and the fact that you need to use a skill 10 or more times to make it appear at your skills menu regardless of your weapon is just pure genius. The difficulty takes a good curve. Those superbosses are just pure hard epic battles that never get boring.Soundtrack is amazing, final battle music was super, same was for the superbosses and arena.Best game ever.

I love how Mardek was arguably your worst fighter in chapter 2, and in this game you turned him into the best fighter.

OMG sadflkjasdklfjasdiofjasdiogthaghj this isn't WOW why should I have to 'grind' to get levels in order to get through a web based flash game sooooo freaking frustrating

This game seems like it may be fun for those looking for a flash based game that requires ridiculous amounts of reading. I wouldn't usually comment on a game I only need for a quest but asking me to spend countless hours learning & playing a game I find miserable isn't very fun. Clearly you put tons of work into the game and I'm giving it a 5/5 rating but I will not be adding it to my favorite list. Really I could pull my hair out trying to play this game, it's frustrating, confusing, and unbalanced graphics. But clearly I'm the minority in this opinion. Not hating just sharing another point of view from your players.

While I was playing, the game screen flashed black for a second only to return as a white-ish screen featuring a circled exclamation point. Once I refreshed, the game returned, albeit without my saved games. Has this happened to anyone else?

Congratulations! You just won the Psychosomatic Exhaustion Badge and 60 points!
My first impossible badge, now to complete the gane
And by the way Pseudo, by far the most epic and enjoyable game on Kongregate

So, I love the game 5/5 for it. But i come back to play and my save file is gone... There isn't any corruption or anything, it's just gone. Anyone know what's going on?

Only 34,000 people have actually finished the Sun Temple? That's the like the amount of people that are currently online... Pseudolonewolf must be feeling like his game is being dissed. :(
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
This game doesn't get enough attention on this site. It is, by far, the highest quality game on Kongregate, yet it's not even in the top 5 of it's genre! EBF3 is good, but it doesn't compare to MARDEK at all. The music, storyline, artwork, gameplay and humor are all top notch. My only problem is having to organize my items all the time. The game needs to auto-sort types of items, and you need to have access to item storage when you craft things. But other than that, this game is absolutely amazing. Keep it up Pseudo!

pseudolonewolf you might not see this but if you do i want you the know that i dont dismiss your hard work only at 1 point i dismiss it it is that animus should have some sort of special that kill it self when its very low and hits us well and then it can be a draw fight lol some enemys should have a attack like that else i love this game keep it up hope chapter 4 will come soon!

Finally! A single battle against Albino Bat to get his Encyclopaedia entry... And now to get a Sun Axe by Revenant. >_<' Btw. Both of these are found most of the time on the first monster filled floor of Sun Temple and vanish along all other 'Sun Temple only mobs' when setting the Warding Stone (and such completing the Sun Temple quest).
