The Dreamstone story is AMAZING! It's such a realistic guy-girl first timer story.
...and the game is amazing as well.

Wow, I had a reallycoldwater on me. That... makes fighting the fire soul a lot easier, and I... am an idoit. (Yes, that was intentional.)

EERG! Fighting fire soul thingy; I can't win, and he can't win (he berzerked my only mage, and his attacks heal everyone but Elwyen.

I won't hesitate to admit that this is a great game. The only problem I have is that it takes such a long time to level up to the point that you can defeat the first boss at all. I spent about 3 hours so far playing this, and about 1 and a half of those were just grinding for experience. Overall, it's a game with great potential, and it meets it- It just takes so darn long to level up!

Hej, this is a great game, just to be perfect it'd need a button to cancel a fight and reload the save file, cause I got stuck in the arena twice with fights I couldn't win nor loose, with both guys attacks healing each other (vehrn and ssh... :/

the dialogue is ok, some of it isn't really that funny but some is..the gameplay does get kind of repetitive and the shop and other things dont really make sense. i like epic battle fantasy 3 way better. 3/5

This is the type of game I would pay $15 for on XBLA/PSN. Awesome gameplay, good story, funny, and it's obvious that a lot of thought and care have been put into it. Looking forward to more.

@Andreas313, there are many types of RPGs that vary from the traditional turn-based NES variant that Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy made popular over 2 decades ago. Real-time strategy, action RPGs, and rouge-likes are just a few examples. I love turn-based JRPG style games, but not everyone does. How did this entire comment section attract so many butthurt gamers? Some people don't like certain type of games or styles of games... Get over it. Jesus Christ, people. The Mardek series is a great throwback to the JRPG style with many additions that help it stay unique among itself. The story is great, the graphics are neat, and the battle and equipment systems are perfect in my opinion. Grinding isn't for everyone, and the game over screen clearly says so. There is no need for further backlash against users who didn't like this game.

Eh, I feel like random encounters in general are almost required, but I don't like them... Almost every RPG has random encounters in some form or another (although in many they are completely or somewhat avoidable, e.g. Pokemon or the Paper Mario series (don't know about the first, but the other two)). You do need some enemies that aren't plot related, or else you can't level up well - you're only fighting plot battles, and it feels railroaded.
Anyway, excellent game, I'm hooked, I've got almost 24 hours in ~a week, despite all the homework I have to do (glad it's vacation for me).

Psuedo, I hope to apoligise for the people below me. Even though some gave good opinions they clearly have no idea how much work it takes to make such an in depth game like Mardek. Comments like CRAPPY GAME shouldn't be listened to. I love the game and cant wait for a 4th. 5/5

MOTHER OF GOD I CAN'T STOP PLAYING. TRULY THIS IS A FANTASTIC GAME. THE GRAPHICS AND ITS POWER OF NOSTALGIA. THE HUMOR, SUBTLE YET, WELL, HUMOROUS. THE STORY LEAVES YOU WANTING MORE. MUSIC, SIMPLE AND VERY APPROPRIATE. BATTLE IS A BIT ANNOYING, WHAT WITH THE RANDOM ENCOUNTERS, BUT THAT IS IN EVERY RPG SO IT'S FINE. AND THE UPGRADES, IN MY OPINION, TAKE TOO LONG BUT THE DOUBLE AP SKILL HELPS TREMENDOUSLY. AND LASTLY, THE ABILITY TO CREATE A SUPER BUFFED PARTY WITH OVER 9000 SKILLS AND RESISTANCES IS MOUTH WATERING. ALSO, MY PRAISE IS IN CAPS BECAUSE THIS GAME DESERVES NO LESS.
PRAISE THEE PSEUDOLONEWOLF.

Another problem is the artwork. I'm totally down with the retro pixelated thing, but the non-pixelated artwork (as found in the battles and in the conversation dialogs) is, well, bad. It also doesn't fit with the rest of the game. This isn't a huge problem, but it doesn't help. Also, the UI in the menu could use some work. Some things are hard to find, or awkward to figure out how to do. (I still have no idea how to trade items between characters.) I also spent several battles with one of my characters blind because the only indication of that is a small black icon on the status screen. There's more, probably, but I'm starting to pick nits. Lose the random encounters and/or completely revamp the fighting, though, and I think you've probably got a really good game. As it is, I'm bored silly with having to stop every five steps and play a game of Concentration.
