A function that allows you to hold down the button instead of pressing it to recruit troops would be fantastic. Like how you can autofire arrows by holding down A. Also, the troops appear to have some sort of cooldown. It would be nice to know what the cooldown is in the troops' descriptions, and also have a visual aid on the button to show the cooldown timer.

There is a strategy I came up with for the harder levels with boss units and huge counter attacks. (With elves) Get to maximum mana, and send assassins, dryads, hunters, and phantom archers, but NOT TOO MUCH. If you do too much damage to the castle, they will send 5 counter attacks at once. Wait for them to send just 1 or 2, with maybe a boss unit that you can take out with the rain of arrows. As the counter comes, let it get in front of the castle, and send stronger units such as protectors and phantom archers. Then rinse and repeat. This strategy will work against the frog general too, just send only ranged units and hobbits against him. He cant move because he keeps attacking the hobbits, with 200+ archers pulverizing him. I don't care about getting rated up, I'm just sick of people saying it's impossible.

Also, there's a big difference between "endurance" and "patience." If I were fighting back hordes of enemies that were charging into my castle, that would be endurance. This game makes me wait for enemy forces that move like they're in line at a grocery store.

Hobbits= Suicide wall of defense. Thank you hobbits, your wiliness to quickly give up your lifes and buy me time has won me countless victories. Where would I be without you?

applles you do get mana for killing certain units like the red dragon. Flarer, keep playing, you get elves after mission 8 and orcs after mission 12

Sorry kids, Santa Claus won't come this year, because I slaughtered thousands of his elves. But I'll make it up to you by taking you to Skull Bridge and letting you feed hobbits to the frog dragon.

O M G. i figured it out. the last boss has one (and only one) attack. he stomps the ground. when he does that, he damages your castle and all troops in the area of his foot. but he will only do this attack if there are normal troops in range. so what you want to do is: let him kill all normal troops and send only angels, guardians/cerberus/titans and dragons. i did this as orch and had some orch totems (the orc mages) and all this stupid huge king of hell did was sit there and take a beating. angels are very good as they keep other enemies away.. so keep some in the mix.

Coming back to the whole Epic War saga after 7 years, played when I was a kid and the game is as good as I remember. This game was such a big part of my childhood, I remember coming from school to play it, it was amazing, thank you.

my second favorite game in the serie, behind epic war 3. It's a pity they did not enjoy this style in more games in the serie.

phew, finally managed to beat last level with humans. If someone else like me is lazy to upgrade elves here's the strategy for humans: 1st destroy the castle and defend all the counter attacks by simply spamming paladins and mages preferably having one arch angel tanking in front. 2nd: Wait till enemy only send weak units and you should just stop sending anythig and let all your your units die, wait till they come close to the castle then spawn (only) arch angel, wait, spawn another one, and so on. By the time you reach boss there should be 4 angels stacked and when they are about to reach him spam paladins, 3rd: when angels are about to die, stop sending paladins and repeat the angel stacking.

This game is slower than a monkey waiting for a troop of turtles being chased by snails to cross its path before proceeding to stack up boxes to get the banana hanging from the ceiling.

For people who don't know - you gain mana as a percentage of your total, ie the more max mana you have, the faster you gain it. Therefore if you can't build units fast enough, increase max mana. Rate up to keep comment alive.

I remember playing this so much when I was 8 and I just spent the past 30 minutes looking for it for the memories. I'm 21 now.

6k Exp in 1:30 mins: This is a strategy that I found in youtube.. Playing lvl 6 u wait untill u have exactly 180 mana and start spamming with hobbits. By then their first wave should reach your arrows so u can kill them easily. Before the 2nd wave you will have about 35 hobbits coming... and that's about it... they will destroy the enemy castle in seconds...

In level 6, you can wait for 150 mana and start spamming hobbits to win easily. Kinda works in level 9 too, but try not to think about that. (the counterwave)

The scoring formula in this game is crazy. You get points for building and killing troops. So, basically, a slow war of attrition is more profitable than a quick, decisive victory.

General strategy: upgrade mana pool or tower, whichever is cheaper at the time. Use the tower to hold off enemy without making troops. When your tower is maximum and your max mana is 3000 for first couple of levels and 9999 for each level thereafter, upgrade your buildings to max. (still, no units) When your mana is full and everything is maximized then, and ONLY then should you make troops. Remember: the BIG wave of enemies only attacks when their castle is under attack. Plus/Repeat this message if it helps.

In response to convoi:
Actually, mages are the worst idea against the demon king. If you look at his stats(it sometimes appear if you put the mouse cursor on units on the field), you can see that he Absorbs the attacks from magic and ranged units, and the only thing that can damage him is, well, close combat. Angels appear to be the best unit to spam, because their sword strike can hit far away enough that he won't counter, and does more damage than their magical ranged attack.
Generally, the best strategy in any level is to rely mostly on your ballistae tower in the beginning so you can spend time upgrading all your stats(send out a few dwarfs and maybe some bombermen to help keep them off, they're pretty cheap.) After maxing out your mana (you don't need to max out mana for the first few levels, they're easier) just spam the better units.
The harder levels will have revenge waves, which can be dealt with easily if you have a decent amount of mana left.

Each mana level-up increases your current maximum 1.3 times.
To effectively level up your mana bar pay regard to the limits you should have passed certain limits. I found it to be annoying, when you upgrade mana to 9500 and have to wait for the mana bar to refill. Better upgrade one/some of the buildings to pass over one of the limits. Those limits are as follows (I only write down the ones above 2k mana):
2072
2694
3501
4552
5917
7692

It's nice to see how much the Titans are useful on this game, forcing you use them to win. But on Epic War 3 and 4 they're useless, they die fast and takes long time to born. That's a point I like in this game, THE TITANS ARE USEFUL!

I've been coming back to this game for years, I'd say it's my favourite game on thins website, it's just a shame that in my opinion the series got progressively worse after this game.

How to get 6,000 XP in around 3 minutes! Step 1) Choose level 6 (the first level you encounter orcs) 2) Set your tower to auto fire as far as it can (0 to autofire. 3) When your arrows start hitting the first orcs (around 170 mana) spam 1 (hobbits/View Instructions And Credits.) Make sure you use the tower to kill most the group. Extra)When your hobbits start attacking the orc castle there should be enough so that you notice the orcs cannot attack as they are being hit too much. If this doesn't work and the second group kills your hobbits, keep spamming and it should work. Personally this works for me every time :)
