This is, literally - I mean literally; it's voted so time and time again by different companies and polls - THE best online game EVER. Maybe the graphics and sounds aren't too great, but there's a reason: it's a browser game. I would rather have no graphics at all than have to download something. Also, compare it to WoW or any other MMORPG. Most are $15/month and have almost no free trials; this is $6/month, or can be played infinitely without spending a single cent. There are hundreds of millions of accounts on this game, they can't all be wrong. Give it a chance before you downrate it.

truly great game good music this seems like something a major company would make like rockstar games or sony but jagex is a very skilled company also and i am glad when i found out about this by a friend so i went to runescape.com and started playing 2 years back

I don't know why people give this game bad ratings on graphics. I would like to see you guys make a better game, also taking in the fact that this is a freaking BROWSER BASED GAME! You can't say it is stupid because it lags, or that it is bad, because there trying, and you aren't. Private Message me a link to a game like this that you think is better, that YOU made. Godd luck to all the noobs who say this is a bad game.

For those people who have read the comments and still aren't convinced or simply don't know the game yet: This game is HUGE. Think of a true fantasy setting and what you'd like to do, and then do it just like you want to. Apart from running around naked you can do virtually anything and Jagex regularly updates, adds and improves the gameworld to keep things interesting.
A must-try for everyone, even non-gamers could have a blast and get themselves a new hobby. Why are you still reading this? Go play it!

My compare
Pros:
- Free classing (level up anything you want, you can be a smith, fighter, cooker, mage or all of them at same time)
- Free2Play
- No download
Cons:
- Since WoW is a like 20gb (installed size) game: Worse graphics, sounds, animations, game is flowing, less stuff, no mounts etc
- Lack of Direction
- Slower Paced
I dont say RuneScape is better than WoW
I say RuneScape isn't the worst game ever it deserves a lot more than 3.30 and its an excelent Java-Browser game

When a game such as Runescape gets very popular and spreads around, you're bound to get people who shout at the very top of their lungs, "THIS THING YOU CALL A GAME SUCKS! ALL YOU NOOBS GET A LIFE INSTEAD PLAYING THIS NERDS!" I know this for two reasons: One, this is present in both my school and anywhere Runescape is present. And two, I felt the same way about WoW for a while. As a number of people have already said (Eambo & reggy1 ftw!), the game gets a lot of bad press even though you don't actually have to PAY for the game in order to enjoy it. I give Eambo credit for helping me to fire up this comment, and I hope that his, reggy1's, and mine own will incite enough people to GET UP OFF THEIR SORRY ARSES AND PLAY THE GAME THEMSELVES. Seriously, don't badmouth a game because you died from a goblin when you started. I died from one too (Well, a giant rat, but who cares?), and it's not all that bad. Get over it.

runescape is a good MMO, and for the n00bs if you lakc direction (runescape todya is very likely) just ask another player they may help you out get started

jesus christ stop comparing WOW to this a free player on WOW is like lvl 10? besides thats all combt on runescape 26 different akills to lvl up and theres lots more stuff to do without having to kill everything in sight so WOW 2/5 :/ and runescape 4/5 i would make it 5/5 if there went people at lummy castle and ge spamming a gp website until there gone its gonna be a 4/5

@Water If you don't like runescape why did you click on the link, and even if WoW is better then that's what you are free to think. Don't put stupid comments about WoW because frankly no one cares. And if you think we are runescape fanboys at least we have a passion other than playing games that we need to pay and dowload. At least for runecape you don't need to download and pay you spoiled rich scum.

Beast game, 4 99s now, about to get another in strength. Definitely deserves at least a 4.0 rating, but no one bothers to give this game a chance because 1. its too hard lolololol 2. They have no patience, and 3, it doesn't look amazing. Amazing game.

this is quite a fun game, it is hard at first but as you progress things come easily to you, its about fun, and patience, i personally think that it should be rated higher than a 3.22, because compared to other mmo's this one rocks

at first i didnt really like runescape but i gave it a second try and now im hooked,those of you that played runescape once and didnt like it i encourage you to give it at least one more chance

This game is overall rated 1# free MMORPG, and 2nd best MMO. KONG put it's overall rating down a lot...I must admit though, trailer makes it look better than it is.

It's strange how other MMO games on Kong that makes people want to sleep, got better rating than the master of MMO games! I don't play RS anymore, but I still don't think anyone should dislike it! It's a great game if you just give it a chance, and those who got ADHD and are not made for games like this, don't rate it down just because of that!

Lol, the real reason is this is a FLASH website, and Runescape is programmed in JAVA. End of story. Kong API goes in Flash, not java.

Oh yes:On runescape website if you are a free player set your screen resoulution to 800 x 600 and click outside of the game browser and press F11 for nearly complete full-screen.Keep this comment alive!

I remember back in the day when me and all my friends played RS. We had a ton of fun and each one by one broke of and outgrew RS. We each moved on to new things, but if one of us brings one little bit of RS we have a huge like 4 hour conversation about the whole game. Sadly Jagex just kinda died, during the last days of us playing I got hacked several times. However, that was just with my account. My friend's were fine. I have always judged games on fun not graphics, but if you judge games on graphics..... well you can go F*ck yourself.

my only isue is that they changed the turtorial i loved learning the ropes it cover every thing you needed to know and the islands still theyre i miss torturial island :(

5/5 From me, this game is great. You don't have to kill stuff all the time which is way better than WoW i'm a skiller and i've made a few mill so yep. Great game!

well this is what all my friends say when i ask them if they play runescape. "hey do you play runescape?" friend:no, why would i play a sh*tty game like that?!" me:well, it's fun and it's good if you have some free time on your hands.." friend: nah, runescape sucks *ss.. me:have you ever played it before? friend: i tried it once but i got bored. Me: well how far did you get? friend: i got a little bit past the white knight in the cave and quit.. Me: -_-... rate up if you think this is why runescape gets bad ratings. btw runescape earned 5/5 from me.
