It's easy to win on the hardest mode if you follow this trick: Just send all cavalry down only one row. Only invest in cavalry and cavalry upgrades (and command point and income upgrade). If you send the cavalry down only one row, they'll mostly only get in one hit before passing out of the screen - that one hit has a bonus and will usually instakill (even against short-spear, etc). They won't always get out of the screen before the row is clear (and so can then be killed), but if you always use just the one row, you'll do well enough on average to never lose a battle (don't worry about the soldiers going down your other rows, I never lost due to that, although a few battles got a little close at the beginning before the row gets cleared for rapid transit).

ok go game some bugs and ..well if you want to know how to win do this work on bow men then some guy comes in and sacks one off you places on the map its ok let him sack one more then when his moves yourl see that like in ricks this guy is one of them dummys thay runs a round the map with his army then at the end of his move pulls all his armys in to one spot on the map leaving all his side of the map with nothing to def it form atk ( so just atk the week shits he leaves behind till your ready to kill him.

Time for a rebuttal of my last comment since I beat the game now...
Only time it glitched was when I was attacking syria (it froze and said assyria...where I was technically attacking from) I had to refresh the page to continue. For the record.. silver shield guard are amazing when you're able to get a large amount of command points going.
so, the glitch makes it a 4/5, but the addictive difficulty brought it back to a 5/5 for me

Steps to winning:
1) Forget about your calvary and ranged units. Just always keep your spearmen at max numbers.
2) Max out income (war taxes/trade).
3) Upgrade spearmen.
4) Don't bother attacking, let them come to you and send your spearmen out.

6) VICTORY

only use the light cavalry and focus it on one or two attack slots. buy cavalry upgrade 1 and armour 1 early and then focus on the money upgrades. then focus on the command point upgrades. this strategy owns. i only lost about 5-10 units each round while they lose 40-80 units

Guys your saying calvary is way over powered? i say under powered because think of real life if they were as they were supposed to be the would just keep on going and every guy they hit would fly "or jump" "or get trampled" "or speared" so those who say valvary are over powered are under powered in thinking"

Got to last 3 enemy territories Zerg-rushing with companion cavalry and Silver shields, then the game bugged out, attacked Khwarzamia and it came up with the battle screen sans interactive elements with the Medina title, no hotkeys functioned.

Too easy, you just have to spam their lines with spearmen to quickly destroy their morale.
And it isn't fair that 2 light cavalries always destroy my companions =pp

There a lot of BUGS. Why at the end when you conquered all map, Parmenion "Advices me" to attack Arabia if its in blue already. Allso I can´t attack any more, BUT, there is no "YOU WIN", i wonder, if you just keep clicking the "End turn" till summer 2010, how much gold i can made??? lol. There is a BUG/Strategy, just fill a line with archers, all the enemies will attack ONLY that line, then just whait ti have enought command points and send scout calvary in the other lines, you'll WIN with Minimun loses to both sides!!!!!!

frustrating game but here are a couple tips for newbies. 1. if a general is in a neigboring nation attack it before it attacks you (you can tell it is a general by a full gold facemask). 2. only defend, never attack in battle until you have at least beat persia (after you kill persia they cant raid you anymore. I took out persia ASAP and after that the game is painless) 3. upgrade your money making before your units (trading with the west and the war taxes) 4. PAY ATTENTION TO THE ADVISORS! they tell you when a persian army is coming and what the general is best at so you can take out those units 5. dont worry about most of the countries until you have beat persia.
The game can be frustrating when you first start but stick with it, it really developes into an amazing game.

All you need to do is upgrade scouts to max, max out recharge on leadership and wait till 240 each time and put 1 scout on each lane. Do this about 3 times and you've won the battle

Really liked it. It might not be historically accurate, but it's still good. Would have been nice if there were a naval combat system too. Also, better map graphics would have been nice. Overall, awesome game.

i really hate reading comments about a game saying its too hard and that they gave it a lower rating because of it. I mean seriuously? its supposed to be a challenge. and i found that upgrading the pikemen first followed by the hya-....heya...the sword person really helps. after u upgrade the leadership a couple lvls get the other peltest as it can easily avoid archers attacks. then start to work on income.

Pretty good, another game of single man on man combat so it doesn't really tie in to the whole Alexander the Great strategy very well, but still a good game type to remake..

Was a very good game would give it a 4/5 except for a glitch that happened where I was kicking ass and than I invaded another Persian territory and everything was blank and if i tried to retreat nothing happened, I had to refresh and I lost everything so i'm gonna give you a 3/5 because now i dont feel like going through everything again to get to where I was

I kinda abused the "End turn, capture near-undefended country, end turn etc. etc." Upgraded everything. The strongest knights + Silver-shield spearmen are awesome, I kept the first horses, so I could wave spam once I pushed through. I guess it's a pretty tough game, if you keep going on in 1 go. Was fun tho ! Ended with 1 million gold ._.

Fun game. Beat it in 10.25 years. First did War Taxes and Western Trade Routes for money, then went for Companion Cavalry and upgraded their attack and defense, along with command. When I ran out of upgrades I went for the Hypatiatist (sp?) and upgraded them. Played on the middle difficulty.

I love this game, Smooth graphics AND good gameplay, at the start i thought it was just another game like That Djstatica game (AKA ben olding). But upon playing it, I realised it was very fun.
To those who say its hard and it sucks your answer is, Go suck one, up yours, And if its hard GET BETTER, if you give up because somthing is hard, you ought to be a failure.

Makes me think of Rome Total War and Napoleon Total War. It's like a remix with one of these games with warloads:Called to Arms. Pretty good game, 10/10. I like conquest games like these.

fun, but the persian army really wears you down, i kept fighting over armenia with the armies and losing against medea until i just maxed out income and then bought all the upgrades.
