@Kinglink - I'd actually be rather impressed by anyone who wrote a game in SQL, since that would mean that they'd somehow coerced a non-Turing Complete _query language_ into an effective programming language. Double-plus kudos to them!
As far as this game goes, the author made some stylistic decisions - which is his prerogative as author. The gameplay is deliberately simple (more DDR than GH). The art is deliberately simple. The sequences you "play" are disconnected from the music that plays in order to - get this - keep it simple. Yet while this isn't anything like playing an instrument, as you point out, neither is Guitar Hero. IT'S A GAME.

I think this game is excellently done, considering everything.
the controls are responsive, the music is good. The obvious downfall is that it's the style of a superpopular game; guitar hero.
But to people who comment on that; their idea is similar to DDR which was out for ages. This is where great ideas come from.
good work!

Lag hiccups make it many times more difficult than it should be to get perfects in pro. Muting the chat and adjusting the quality down don't seem to make a noticeable difference. (I play with voice off anyway.)

Please stop making excuses. A programmer doesn't make a game in SQL and when it sucks he doesn't try to blame sql. You use the best tools for your projects. Want a good implementation, search frets on fire, or Stepmania, they are both great simulators.
This is still poor. Don't over rate this guy because of his medium. We arn't an "art" site, we are a game site and as a game this doesn't pass what is already out there.
Hell there's numerous notes that's not played, there's one hold where there should be two different holds. And the music doesn't even react to you're playing (at least play a broken note when you fail.)
I'd just be satisfied if it even looked real, but it's nothing like playing a guitar or even any instrument. I expect better if someone is trying to steal the guitar hero idea.

*sigh* 4 perfects in pro, but I doubt I'll ever get the rest. Fun game, though, as it was well before the badges came out. When's the sequel?

Henshin, There's a Q in the menu right before you click Ready! That's quality. you can also turn off the announcer voice who is the stick figure with the soundwaves.
docholiday, you may hit every note, but don't forget you lose points if you hit a key you're not supposed to. You probably may have done it unconsciously, but keep at it.

The excuse for the poor lag and bad gameplay seems to be 'well its in flash what do you expect?' This is the worst excuse ever- other flash games are fun. This one isn't.

guitar hero 3 is £70, but it's worth it, on guitar hero 3 if you press a button it actually registers, and the notes are with the rhythm.

JROD, you can't compare a free flash game to a game retailing for at least £30(UK). Lag is too bad to be true in places, but otherwise, most songs ROCK!! 5/5, can't believed I haven't favd it b4!

I see that you fixed the game since I last played it, in that the game doesn't end before all the notes have been played. However, there is still the issue of commands lagging behind the song. Might I suggest a quality option? Or just toning down on the special effects?
Until then, 3/5.

What about us poor shmoes with no hand-eye coordination? The lag did mess me up a lot. But that is to no fault of the creator (unless it's from shotty programming), so I'll give this a 4. It has room for improvment, but It's very well done. I loved the voice acting, guitar selection, and all the music. Great job.
Question: I don't know much about flash, but would it save us load times if we allow the game to download for to the PC, so it won't have to download the songs every time? If so, how much room should we allow to be saved?

Really fun I enjoy it, For those of you worrying about lag, maybe try running it in the older versions of IE, with low qual and IE 6 I seem to get no lag at all. Maybe even play without volume but lol.

OK, now that I have the Medium badge, I probably won't play again. No, not because it's a bad game, but because it becomes very, very hard in pro, far more so then in the beginner one, and because of the lag. How I hate the lag.

This is OK, but really almost closer to DDR than Guitar Hero. I have some issues playing it because I'm so used to GH controls

Song choice leaves a LOT to be desired, and some songs seem to lose 'focus' and start asking for odd key combos, but otherwise I love it.

Having lag problems on IE as well as Firefox. It seems to only lag on the first note of every song. I'm not going to rate the game any lower because a problem on my end though, it is a fun game.

Again, if you are having lag problems, try ie instead of firefox. I have a mid level laptop and the game is unplayable in firefox and perfect in ie.

This is by far the worst game I've played on Kongregate. Not only is it annoying and unfun but it is nearly impossible to successfully get a perfect due to flash lag/skips/quirks (and I'm playing on a very high end system).

3 stars. A: there's a bit of a control mixup for us fps fans as i, personall, kept using wasd for arrows and vice versa, B: there were some synch issues, or on occasion, an arrow yould be just barely past the line and the leeway wouldn't pick it up, and C: well, most of the songs are cool, but some of them i'd rather not sit through over and over to try and perfect. That last one may be an opinion but i think song legth could be shortened on some.

1. They obviously didn't program the game to freeze, and thousands of people play it, so that means it's probably you.
2. This game uses syncopation and off-beats just as all rhythm-based games do. The timing isn't off, you just have no rhythm.
