So, all of this is revenge for destroying a town by paying everyone to move away from the way of a major project, and killing someone's son by nominating a man with parents as the leader of a diversionary force.
Morale of the story: Don't hire a necromancer as your court sorceress.

i dont generally like upward platformers, but instead of the mindless twitch reactions and just racing as fast as you can, you actually had to pause and chose your steps carefully to survive... the only down side is the game was a little too short (but i know you cant do much more then you did story wise for it) but maybe add an optional semi-endless mode (a lot of additional floors, restarting at floor 1 each time you die, or at the very least having very spaced out checkpoints) and then an alternate ending for it (the king realized what he did, and retakes the throne after earning the respect of the advisors from overcoming everything they threw at him, and vowing to change his ways)

one would think that they could just kill the king. like, with a sword, a dagger, ETC. but really, It is a great game regardless of that.

The story is engaging, the mechanics are good and the music is superb. As the most of the people here, I feel for the king and justify his actions.

So, the king, in order, saved the kingdom from a tyrant, defeated a greater army with a lesser one, stole water and killed a dragon with as few casualties as possible. The only thing he did wrong was stealing water, and even then, he repents for it. The diversionary force was needed to allow his victory over the impossible enemy, and he did what he could to honor the dead. I'm not even sure what he did wrong with the tyrant and the dragon, the first he was ushering in a new age, and the second he was protecting his people. Also, the dragon's attempt to make him feel guilty about killing her at the banquet is void because the banquet was made to kill her.

The King /was/ selfish, but at the same time he was making intelligent choices. He saved a major city from drought at the cost of a smaller one, killed a dragon in order to keep his population fed, and sacrificed a small unit of soldiers so that the main contingent could obliterate the remainder. His advisers refused to look past their emotions to see that.

the game was perfect i gave it 5/5 both for the game and the plot.but i think judging by the comments that it was not as appreciated as it should be. I love it when first we see how things are told in a history book and then we find out the truth.however i think that either since the current king felt remorse he should have stayed but under the de facto jurisdiction of the mage and the general or they should have found another ruler...

The first 2 acts are enjoyable, but the third is quite frankly poorly executed. A good game should never have to resort to memorization for something that is not part of a puzzle, and many of the spears that are shot you have to memorize where they'll be in order to avoid them, almost like an annoying quicktime event. And in the fourth act, we need to se e further beneath us, as the very last part requires jumping both up and down and we need to be able to see if the tyrant's hands are extended on the platform we're jumping to.
altogether, not too bad, but not too good either. With a little polish it could be pretty good.

Terrible ending to an otherwise good game. There is always collateral damage in every decision made, no matter how good the intent is behind them. At the end of the day, the path of least damage is generally the one chosen. There IS no perfect solution and the forced morality of this story is a fairy tale. Those in power have tough situations placed in front of them on a daily basis, the difference is whether or not you have the will to make those decisions, instead of being frozen by indecision and being an ineffective ruler, because you're too timid to make hard choices. Mechanically, a unique and great game. Storywise? GTFO with your fairy tales. ;) 3 of 5.

The point isn't that he was a bad king but that his people perceived him as a bad king and chose to overthrow him rather then tell him what he was doing wrong. listen to the credit song it explains t pretty well.

simple application. Don't look to leaders to solve problems just solve them yourselves and for god's sake don't take any position of authority yourself or you'll be doomed to have everyone hate you no matter what you do.

Beautiful, absolutely loved it on all fronts. Graphics, music, voice acting were wonderful bonuses, but so see a game with such fun gameplay with a wonderful story is getting rarer these days. Brilliantly executed, and the end song felt like a reward in itself. How often do we see devs these days rewarding us with their game, for beating their game? 5/5, hope to see more of this, and hopefully from the same storyline.

The philosophical point was really in-your-face, like "THINK THIS!" I don't know if the words of the dead tyrant were supposed to pose some sort of moral dilemma to the king, because they really didn't. As far as the gameplay went, though, it was fun.

@AnotherDuck, Most of the things the leader did were morally ambigious at worst, and yet people hated him over it. That's a real-life parralel, if you think about it. Listening to the ending song, I'd be more inclined to say that's the subject, rather then "monarchs are bad".

Well, kind of a mixed bag. The gameplay is unique enough, but the controls are a little iffy, as jumps sometimes don't become what you press. The story was a bit hamfisted and the moral was contrary to itself, especially about thinking of the consequences of the actions. Sacrificing some soldiers to save a lot more is bad for the ones sacrificed, but if the option is to let even more people die, it's not really the worst course of action, especially as said sacrifice was recognised.

I'm seeing so many comments with people saying "The story is horrible because the king isn't a villain!" No kidding; that's the point of the story!

if moving left and right then jump doesn't seem to work about 60 to 70% of the time, that needs to be fixed, in the mean time 2/5 until then.

um....he wasnt even a bad guy...town needed water he gave water...dragon eating shit killed the dragon....large army...sacrifice a little for the greater good....terrible asshole king? killed him.

Superb game. Could have made a lot better overall feel of the game if there was maybe some background music playing lightly during the cut-scene voice acting (:

My only complaint is the music stops the moment I click outside the game, meaning I can't have it as background music. I would prefer if it continued and simply had a mute button.

Man, how dare that king look out for the interests of his people and make their lives great? The only reasonable thing to do is guilt-trip him into exiling himself.
All joking aside, though, this was a pretty fun game. The game ran smoothly and there was enough challenge to keep it interesting without it ever feeling unfair. I liked the music, too, but the voice acting was honestly pretty bad. It all sounded like it wasn't rehearsed at all before it was recorded, and the inflections and emphases were all over the place. The king never really sounded frightened or even angry, no matter what was happening to him. He sounded more like he was just mildly indignant the whole time. There's also a bug where the cutscene dialogue continues playing after the level starts if you skip the last line in the scene.
Overall, though, this was pretty good. I had a good time playing it, and that's the most important thing.

I really like the simplicity in the game mechanics. The only trouble I had with the game is that the framerate would drop like crazy for me. But other than that minor mishap, the game is pretty good! :D Great job! (4/5) stars.
