Ive noticed running backs arent running routes. when you give them the ball they run straight forward toward the line every time instead of sweeping to the outside.

Idea for the next update: What if you increased the trade value of a player if they won a reward (Ex: MVP, RotY) or are having a high production?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I like the expanded roster option - I feel like fumble / interception rate needs to be nerfed (four fumbles in first two games since update; fast defensive players constantly undercutting my receivers, even when I throw the ball to the inside). My rehab facilities are maxed and I am having trouble getting my WR and RB stamina back after games (usually restores to around 75%)

My O-Line got me sacked 11 times and I had a 5 star OL player. Before I got this player, I never got sacked, so it seems like getting a OL is like a major downgrade.

Many welcome changes. Pass interference has been dialed back, along with interceptions. Still need a playbook but having a 12 man roster gives more flexibility on plays depending on your drafting. Stamina change i dont mind as thats more realistic to how football is. 100% energy at start of game dwindling down towards the end. The breakaways are nice finally having my recievers being able to outrun linemen. A solid update. But would still REALLY prefer a playbook or play saving ability.

2 things I don't like about the brand new updates:
1) the stamina running down as game progresses, it should still be per play, 4th quarter all players are exhausted and can't bust a big play when needed.
2) the running game, the RB always runs straight on his run designs. Hope to see that change back where it was before as well.
Things I like with changes: better defense AI and coverage, more stiffarms, the 12 man roster. Nice additions.

Game bug: 5 seconds left in the first half. Given the option of going for yardage or a field goal. Wanted to go for yardage. Ended up throwing the ball away with 2 seconds left to get a shot at a field goal. Was not given opportunity to try to kick a field goal. (Will likely not affect game outcome as I'm still up by 9 in the third quarter and I have the ball.)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I can't get the hang of kicking field goals. Also not sure why the kicker needs to take games off and his replacement can't even kick extra points...at least with me 'helping'. I'm enjoying the game so far, though.

its great and all that people like it as it is. that isnt the point. Not being able to play call is removing one of the biggest aspects of football. Without play calling this game lacks any real semblance it had to a football game. now its just based on luck and RNG. there isnt any skill involved in being forced into a play. You can like it all you want but its still not how football is played, and if youre going for a football game in the line of Tecmo, them we need playbook/play calling at the very least.

Considering you start the game being hired as a coach to a bad team, your assessment isnt accurate. You literally are playing the game as the head coach.

dear Developer:
OK, I need to revise my earlier comment where I said you ruined a great game. I think I see what you are doing now, and it DOES work. So thanks, still a great game.
Of course I would still prefer to be able to call my own plays, but this is really a game where you are the quarterback, not the coach.
Anyway, thanks.

Tactics (2/2):
If you've snapped and you've looked and there just isn't anything good? Throw the ball about five yards downfield and so far out of bounds it'll go into the second row of seats past the sidelines. You've lost a down but you've got a new set of routes and a new defense and you only really need one or two of these to work.
Don't punt. Punting is for quitters and cowards.
The only time for field goals is if the half or game is about to end, you look at the play at scrimmage and you don't see yourself getting a touchdown. I mean, I guess if you end up with 4th and "not going to happen" yardage you can try it too.

Tactics (1/2):
I look at what every receiver is doing and where the defense is.
If the DBs are lined up over 5 yards back? The quick out to the WR will get you yardage.
If the RB has a nice route that puts them outside the box? A throw to them once they've cleared the box starts your running play a couple yards ahead of scrimmage and in open space.
If the LBs are showing blitz and you have a TE doing a little route that will get them clear? Wait until the blitz is in the backfield and make the throw.

Football has always been "take what the opposing defense is giving you when you line up at scrimmage." Quarterbacks are -praised- for looking at multiple different receivers on a given snap, and for putting a pass where the only one who can get it is their receiver.
In that respect, this is actually a stronger simulation of what football looks like than a lot of games.
Granted, loading up all your skill positions on offense with particularly good players (QB for accuracy, strength, stamina; RB for speed and stamina with enough catching to not drop short passes in the open field; TEs and WRs for catching, speed, and stamina)...you can get there. Throw in a defensive star at each position to challenge each play type the opponents run and a kicker (accuracy and range primary, stamina secondary) and you can rattle off win after win pretty easy.

Then you obviously didnt read any of the complaints or understand them properly. and your "tip" is just gaming the current system by performing the same throw and play over and over. If you could pick a play properly, you wouldnt have to to do "back shoulder throws" 99% of the time. Its not a "challenge" so have defenders be able to wrestle your receivers to the ground or snatch a ball out of the air OVER your play for an interception. Go back and get some actual insight to the issues people have brought up before you try and Gamesplain how to get around them, like we dont already know.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
i don't get all the complaints about this game. it's really great for what it does. if you find it too challenging, just keep practicing. it gets MUCH easier. Tip: Back shoulder throws to your star receiver work about 99% of the time (virtually guaranteed an 8-10 yard gain on any play). for DEV - would love an "Acheivement" of 1000 yard rusher. Just played a season trying for that and barely got it in the last game.

@moderndayknight i noticed that too. its just so many little things that are bringing the game down. Its playable and winnable, if you reload the page 15-20 times because the mechanics are mostly nonsense. Game is hanging on the cusp of being really good but right now its still more of a chore to win than a fun challenging time.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
So apparently the other team can get across the entire field inside of about 30 seconds whereas we lose 15 seconds just returning the football? Yeah, time-management is ridiculous now.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
That moment when there is less than a minute left to play and you are behind. you need long plays in order to win, but the computer only selects short passes because not being able to select your own plays is dumb.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
My second team was Miami and I built a five-star defense and offense. Then I left for Kansas City and Miami only went down a half star and still doesn't win the division.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Aw man. Went from being a super-fun game I could play season after season to something so restrictive it's just boring. It was frustrating but acceptable to scroll through a dozen or so plays before you found the one you want. But dictating the play at the start and only giving you a few changes per half is just stifling.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Game isnt worth the aggravation of playing anymore. Having to be stuck with one random play that you have no control over is, frankly, stupid. Youve basically removed one of the key aspects of actual football and stuck us with sh!t RNG on top of it. The mechanical defects wouldnt be as bad if i could select a play id like to run instead of having no control now over anything besides what players I draft.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Awesome game! Some suggestions:
1. The option of having a playbook and even a play clock
2. Pass interference calls and possibly other penalties/flags
3. Keep track of playoff stats too on player profiles
4. Show on player profiles if they have won Retro Bowls and how many
5. Be able to control defense
6. Some kind of optional threshold that makes players HOF eligible (certain amount of TDs, yards, Retro Bowl wins, etc.)
7. See 5 star ratings for all teams on one page
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
A improved way to aim the field goals would help me a lot. I find myself going for the 2 points almost every time as although I have a 5 star kicker I find it very hard to aim them. It should be easier than the 2.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Not being able to pick your plays is basically rendering this not fun to play. Football doesnt stick you with 1 play and you just have to deal. also pass interference is back since defenders are wrestling my players to the ground right as the ball gets there.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
At the moment you cant change play without wasting an audible. Whatever play you get, is the play you get. Hopefully dev will give us a playbook or similar.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Game still freezes from time to time. Diving catch you can still run if not touched. 3 timeouts per half. I like what you did with audibles because it was too easy to keep clicking for the same play you always want...was too repetitive that way. 5/5 from me.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Nitpick: timeouts are 3 per game. In pretty much every level of football they're 3 per half. With clock management becoming a bigger concern due to runoff, getting an appropriate number of timeouts should happen.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
In the hall of fame, it lists "win 3 retro bowls in 3 seasons" and win 5 in 5. I've done both, but didn't get either achievement.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Tip: If your runningback/wide receiver has low stamina but high speed, they will build distance, but they can't keep it.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Still tired of the defensive supermen running down my fastest players every single time (regardless of the defense's rating). The audibles are quite annoying as they rarely give me a play that I'd like to run and I have to burn all of them to find that out.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The game is great but i miss when you could change plays as much as you wanted now you cant change a play more than once but other than that the game is great
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@talizorah yeah it bugs me too. only have the ability to manage a few people on each side of the ball and have a bunch of no name on stat players i cant do anything with. Full control of the roster would be sweet eventually.....
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Oh you took away the possibility to change play. That's really a bummer. I mean, half the game is the setting plays, how am I supposed to enjoy the game now?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
As ist seems, there are always 3 possible options to pass to, but only two are "skilled" players? Why are only my WR on the field and while the third receiver is a "no name player" but not my TE - which I have on the roster?
