Also, Joe still ate the whole cake, even in the second level. It's also cool that you have the player parkour through the credits. If you ask me, though, you should make some sort of reward for beating each level, like a permanent level to one of the upgrades or something.

Great failure screen. "It turns out that Joe is really bad at managing money! He starves to death under a bridge, success forever out of his reach." That is what the death screen says for whoever is curious.

You start with 5 coins and can collect 5 coins before spending 6 coins on broccoli and upgrading running 4 times. After that, you can only collect enough coins to upgrade running once each time.

It's a cool idea, but the upgrades are too small, so there are too many repetitions to get much further. It would be better with bigger upgrades and more levels for more variety.

Love the concept of this game. It could easily be a 10/10 game. But, as it is only a 4/5.
Obviously this game needs more levels.
Not sure how much input you want. But, I have plenty of ideas. Been gaming since '86, and have been a beta-tester for quite a few games.
(It also depends on if you are even still working on this concept at all. Whether you wish to have a released game, or a mobile port.)
All in all though, a wonderful concept and game.

I bought 30 game controllers and filled all stats up again and didnt feel a difference. I guess fun is really just a waste of time and money D:

don't make a comment just because you want to get likes. say an opinion and if people dislike it, try to see why. If you can't see why, I guess the people are wrong.

This is the best game of all time. Do I have to say that to get any likes? It has slow progression. You can maybe upgrade a little each time and barely get any further. I wanna make some progress!

I discovered you can totally crash and brun in this game.
Takes a bit of dedication and patience, but it feels like halfway an Easter Egg. Nice twist.

I like that the game controller represents gaming, Fun, but is it worth the time. Answer is yes! Was having a meh day and this game put a smile on my face. 5/5 and or 9/10, minus one point cause it's too short and I want more!

The irony of this game is that it is a metaphor for real life: train hard my friends and never give up on reaching your dreams.

@tmurphy2027: I think the video game item is there as bait to get you to do the wrong thing. "You must resist the temptation, and exercise so you get in shape!" is the point I think.

joes the type of guy to see the proverbial cake of success on the ground and ask "is anyone gonna eat that" and then not wait for an answer
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
i cant hate this more, it is exactly how my life is in reality, repeating same routine all the time without making any progress and cant make enough money to afford my life

Also some info on foods in case you're too lazy to read through the comments to find on your own: Broccoli slightly increases your max stamina, Burgers slightly decrease your max stamina, and Proteins have no effect on your max stamina
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
This is probably obvious but just in case, if you have no energy, MAKE SURE that you have enough coins to buy food. If not, then the game will say that you are bad at spending money and will basically erase your save data.

I don't understand why there's a choice to eat broccoli, burger, and fish when there's no benefit from eating healthy food. The burger is the best choice bc it cost the least, and it also replenishes energy way more than broccoli

I get the idea, but the progression is way too slow. Many runs feel the same because the upgrades provide barely any improvements on the next run. It takes multiple runs to see meaningful improvement. Also the choice between healthy food and junkfood doesn't really make the game more fun. At the end of the day, I'd rather play a regular platform game without looping and upgrading because it's faster paced with more variety and without repetition.

Fun time killer, I love taking my time to get max upgrades on everything, and it feels like a classic NES platformer, Great game overall

Cute little game. I am glad they made it the badge of the day, otherwise I might not have played it or noticed it on this site. It was fun.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
A nice idea, but very repetitive. At the end of the day, I'd rather run and jump around in a bunch of varied levels in a "generic platformer" than run a little further each time in 2 levels in this more peculiar platformer for about half an hour when the levels are less than a minute long each.

I'll admit, I didn't read the instructions properly and thusly got through the first level without having punched a single thing - I thought you had to goomba stomp the little guys to get past them. Really glad that it was possible to make it through without punching all the same! Opportunity for a second badge potentially? Pacifist run or Non-lethal weapon would be the badge title options I'd go for :)
I liked the game but I was a bit disappointed after struggling so hard to get the game controller stat and spamming it only to realise it decreased your stats. Might be interesting to have it as a means to level up secret stat that you only find out about after purchasing it for the first time, giving it meaning so players of your game don't avoid spending on it entirely but that you have to earn points back for balance.
Not sure if the devs are still reading the comments but just a few pieces of food for thought :)

I just realized that all the goombas and koopas in the mushroom kingdom aren't out for mario's blood, their just out for a morning jog

For those wondering, the joypad upgrade just makes you lose a random stat. Couldn't find anything about this in the top comments, so upvote this for everyone to see!

A couple of alternate endings would have been nice. Eg, after eating brocolli all the time, Joe rejects the cake. Or eating nothing but protein, he turns into a hulk. Etc. 5/5 anyway.

Nice game, was not happy about having fun reducing all my stats though, set me back quite a bit before I noticed what was happening.
