As a proof of concept, it's a solid "ok". A reason to move would be nice (enemies shoot back or armored on one side?), so would some variety in what I'm shooting.

I won't lie to you. It's very basic and pretty boring. For a first step it's not bad, but if you got this awesome engine and this is all you come up with, well that's just not gonna cut it.

Suggestions:
1. Either allow holding down the space bar, or change the fire button to be the left mouse button.
2. The ability to slide side to side is utterly useless. I can play the game while being stationary. Add obstacles of some sort to actually require moving.

Hey everyone, thanks for the input. The game is very simple as it was more of a test to see if I could do anything with unity and its the first thing I have ever finished, which was my goal. I will use your input, work on a few changes, and add content over the next few days. I will update the game within the week.

A couple of things :
Its just a 'tap-fest', slide off-screen and tap space and you've won the game
nothing even basic like a pause button or a mute button

cool game, improve the controls to clicking or spacebar, and put more enemies with upgrades like rocket or lasers. then it would be a great game
