genuinely one of my favorite games, I think about it years after I've played it, with how simple it is and how effectively it gets across the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The ending broke my heart. Love it

the best stragety for the final boss is:
fast feet:be fast git gud keep on the platforms not the ground and kill the enemys he drops
git gud:shoot him fast like when you drop into the room you can shoot him do it (remember aim for the head anywhere else dosent count)

This goes into my "life is too short to waste time on this ... ahem ... game" category of BOTDs, along with the Super Crazy Guitar Maniac series.

My advice: When you get stuck and frustrated, take a break for a bit.
On some 'puzzles' you are only going to get the timing by accident, so just grind though till you get it.

I use to play this back in school with my buddies. Good times. We never got past the 2nd boss but today, I completed the game.

Played this game before and rage quit. I wish I hadn't. It is much better than I thought and I didn't know that it was based on the tale of Orpheus. Usually these pixel games feel so much better in terms of story than games that worry too much about graphics. I'm very glad I came back to this.

Me: "FINALLY! I BEAT THE FINAL BOSS! IT'S OVER! ToT"
*Ghost shows up*
"Oh, right, the myth says I have to bring them back... okay, this shouldn't be too hard!"
*EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT AND EVEN MORE DIFFICULT*
"WHY?!"
No, seriously, why? What's the point? If you're going to do something like this, a nonconsistent AI path isn't necessary; it's seriously rage inducing. I have never been so mad at a game before. It's a pretty game, I like the pixel aspect and I was loving the beginning, but this is just ridiculous. Sorry to hate, but no. Just no.

@freteczka97 The problem with Hades is he can drop a LOT, at least 5 spiders at the same time and I can not kill them all. There are so many that they are impossible to kill and the bullet spam prevents jumping / platforming to avoid them. So your strategy is worthless, because unless I win the lottery I am not going to win. Every single time I have tried this has happened and I am sick of it, so I am just going to 1 star this game.

despite its difficulty I can say I enjoyed the game, how sometimes, when climbing back from sadness, such as when someone we love has left us, things just fall into place, and you just need to keep pressing forwars (or the left arrow here) and everything clicks together. other times your inner demons stand in the way of seeing yourself and the past you need to let go. Hated the game, loved the message, especially the three vertical zig-zags with one on the bottom, absolutely terrible timing.

Garbage game, not worth a badge. The controls stink. One kit and dead vs a boss that can drop FIVE fast moving enemies and bullet spams at the same time. This badge should be hard, if not impossible.

the 2 blocks and 3 ropes room kinda just lubed up my rear and shoved itself in there... forcefully. Other than that, it was pretty good.

if you enjoy thius all well and good but it's not my cup of tea, especially when I die for the fiftieth time to te same enemy because I'm too dumb to figure out how to beat them T^T

Played for the badge. I enjoyed the challenging game design at first. But towards the end the unresponsive controls took the fun out of it

Here's my boss strategies if anyone need them: Cerberus - Get close to him, let him leap over you, shoot him in the back. Repeat. Then stand further away, let him come close, jump over him right after he lands after a jump and immediately shoot him in the back before he prepares another. Hades - When you fall into the room, land on the upper platform and jump up to shoot the boss's head to take the first health point. Then focus on dodging. Kill bats as soon as you can without getting hit with a fireball. Kill all spiders whenever you're on the ground. Get onto platforms whenever you can to try and sneak shots at the head, but don't get greedy if you're at risk of taking a hit or getting overrun by enemies. At low health, Hades will start shooting fireball volleys aimed diagonally down-and-left and up-and-left. These will be harder to dodge, but as long as you watch their trajectories an opening will soon appear for you to kill the boss.

This game is quite challenging, but screens are short and reset quickly if you fail them. It allows you to adapt a strategy for each encounter and incrementally figure out how to outmaneuver the enemies. The bosses are pretty fun and have simple mechanics. The only thing that felt really unfair was the projectile randomness in the fights against Hades and especially against the first shooting enemy. It shoots too fast to jump over all projectiles and the only strategy I've found to kill this guy is to beg RNG for it to shoot enough fireballs over my head to let me kill it while jumping over the ones aimed at me. The second half of the game is incomparably easy though and all the empty rooms break up the action to make it all the more boring. If those rooms featured some writing, for example messages tempting Orpheus to turn around, they would at least be interesting. Fun but not without flaws, 4/5 for a pretty nice game and good memories from when I first played it 10 years ago.

I love how so many of the new replies are people that absolutely hate this game simply for being difficult. 4/5 my only complaints are that the Hades boss fight is a tad bit too difficult, even for this game, and that the small particles from the fireball projectiles also count as the projectile, so the hit box is way different to what it looks like.

what are y'all complaining about?? this game is not that hard!! go revisit ghosts and goblins or ninja gaiden, then come on back.

As someone who enjoyed the horribly frustrating hobbyist games of the 1980s, I'd have played this for hours when I was 8. This is far too long and far too annoying for a BOTD though.

If one is making a finger dexterity/reaction game that is rather unforgiving, it's important that the controls be smooth and crisp.

revisiting the game for the badge. Got even more annoyed, new rating, 1 star, and that is only because 0 isn't an option.

This has got to be one of the most frustrating games on this entire site. I cannot bring myself to finish. The snakes and people are hard to kill or get past and make the game nearly unplayable. I got past the dog and the multi limbed monster, but this stupid disappearing platform jumping situation is too agitating.
