A lot of them do seem to be flawed choices, less about fear, than assessing risk. Would I rather be set on fire [non-fatal] or die by drowning. for example. Me. no. am. suicidal.

The eventual results are the same, I presume? I've had the same events several times, answered differently, and the class still stared at me/the man still wished me a good night/the rest of the test still went well/the interviewer is always angry. The random announcements you get after that seemingly have nothing to do with your answers. You always get two extra chances to choose the other answer by making both your answer seem worse and the other seem better, but sometimes they're insignificant and sometimes they suddenly make it completely different. I don't see how this has to do with phobias, sometimes. I mean, I guess if you ask me if I'd rather be stung in the eye with an injection or drown, I would choose the latter, because I'm not even sure if I would survive such an injection. On the other hand, would I rather drown or be covered in deadly black widows? Both lead to my eventual death, what does it matter? (I'm not sure which one is quicker.)

Yep, it's pretty much risk assessment if you have no glaring phobias. The answers have a pretty clear ranking in "payoff". It's more brainwork than emotions. Now, a choice between drowning and falling to your death would be more like it.
Walking down a dark corridor - one would even do it for fun
Getting an injection in the eye - no permanent drawback, serious discomfort (even if it does cause blindness, it's just one eye)
Being publicly humiliated - Medium social deficiency
Being homeless - Serious social deficiency. medium drop in life quality
Being covered in deadly black widows - High risk of death
Having no limbs - Extreme drop in life quality
Getting crushed in a shrinking elevator - Certain death
Falling from a great height - Certain death
Drowning - Certain death

This game has some deeper meaning... which I don't get.
