A lot of them do seem to be flawed choices, less about fear, than assessing risk. Would I rather be set on fire [non-fatal] or die by drowning. for example. Me. no. am. suicidal.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The eventual results are the same, I presume? I've had the same events several times, answered differently, and the class still stared at me/the man still wished me a good night/the rest of the test still went well/the interviewer is always angry. The random announcements you get after that seemingly have nothing to do with your answers. You always get two extra chances to choose the other answer by making both your answer seem worse and the other seem better, but sometimes they're insignificant and sometimes they suddenly make it completely different. I don't see how this has to do with phobias, sometimes. I mean, I guess if you ask me if I'd rather be stung in the eye with an injection or drown, I would choose the latter, because I'm not even sure if I would survive such an injection. On the other hand, would I rather drown or be covered in deadly black widows? Both lead to my eventual death, what does it matter? (I'm not sure which one is quicker.)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Yep, it's pretty much risk assessment if you have no glaring phobias. The answers have a pretty clear ranking in "payoff". It's more brainwork than emotions. Now, a choice between drowning and falling to your death would be more like it.
Walking down a dark corridor - one would even do it for fun
Getting an injection in the eye - no permanent drawback, serious discomfort (even if it does cause blindness, it's just one eye)
Being publicly humiliated - Medium social deficiency
Being homeless - Serious social deficiency. medium drop in life quality
Being covered in deadly black widows - High risk of death
Having no limbs - Extreme drop in life quality
Getting crushed in a shrinking elevator - Certain death
Falling from a great height - Certain death
Drowning - Certain death

lol would you rather be homeless or humiliated in public ?? humiliated in public.., the whole class stairs at you,, pownd xD
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I think it would have been interesting if after answering enough questions you got to play a game that would be scripted to scare you based on how you answered.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
"Would you rather be homeless or covered in spiders? Not only would you be homeless but you would be covered in spiders." Wait what was the choice again?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
the game DOES have a lot to do with assessing risks, but i think that's part of the point. someone with a phobia cannot necessarily assess risks in a logical way when faced with a choice between something they fear and something they don't fear that is equally or more dangerous. i would rather be set on fire than walk down a dark corridor.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Also... "the injection is given in your forearm." Is that supposed to make me feel better about getting the injection? *shudders*
I'm deathly afraid of needles.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I was asked the trapped in a lift or public humiliation question every time. I clicked the lift each time. It then told me I had a fear of spiders. HOW THE HECK DID IT KNOW THAT?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I agree with Mikebolt. I liked the game though. Its kinda cool and gets you thinking a bit. Only if it went into a game based off your answers like he said. Cool idea though.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
One of the things I hate are the fact that some are pure fear, and others are actual, physical harm, and some are more terrifying than what any phobia can provide.
I.E.
I'm very afraid of the dark, but I'd rather walk down a dark corridor than live without limbs.
I'm not at all afraid of spiders, but I would still not want to be covered in them-they still bite AND some have venom,I'd rather get an injection, which I am afraid of.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Despite the same endings and choices and such, im giving the game 5/5 due to its creativity :) And i find that its interesting to give one a choice, and totally change the details of the choice based on one's decision.
Kind of like you have no choice at all.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I think that the only challenging decision is to live without limbs or die by drowning(and you can talk yourself an option of being unconcious while that). What would you choose(without cheating such as mechanical arms)?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Weird questions, and I have 2 options:Be Homeless/Suffer Amnesia.I pick Be Homeless.Someone tells me that I'd be covered in spiders while i'm homeless?
This game seems to have no point.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
"Would you rather be covered in spiders, or be homeless?" "I'd rather be homeless." "Not only would you be homeless, you would be covered in spiders." That's a really good incentive to convert phobias, I have to say. But seriously, I really like the game.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It could be more specific... like, what sort of injection? What is implied varies greatly whether its asked by a nurse, or some guy in a dark alley...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It keeps saying that my greatest fear is heights, but thats only because every other choice it gives me is preferable to dying.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Flawed, because some situations are much more dangerous than others - I'd guess for most people the greatest fear is death. However, deeply and genuinely terrifying.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I can't seem to find an ending! It just keeps going on asking me the same questions over and over. Interesting concept, but some wrapup would be nice.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Interesting concept, though not entirely new. Some direction would be nice, but I was able to figure out the game. Lose the annoying SFX. In all, 3/5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Hmm, it seems to 'learn' i guess it the right term. It compares your answers after the extra info and such. I do like the information it an give, such as the alien hand syndrome.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The answers seem slightly random. "trapped in a lift" or "Fall from great height" but the lift is getting smaller.
->Great height.
My answer: "you are afraid of spiders" makes almost no sense in this context. also, no im not.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Would you rather have an injection or be set on fire? is the only set of questions I ever got in this quiz. Each time I said the injection but it gave me lines "while being set on fire is really painful" and then tells me that I'm afraid of spiders. LOL Wrong! That isn't even close to being my greatest fear: fire!!!!! So thumbs down on this pseudo-psychology quiz.

This seems meaningful, but I might be reading something out of nothing. Shallow, but economical, considering the devtime (hours?). If you liked this, try this game: http://gambit.mit.edu/yetoneword (made at my game lab).

this game is not a game of phobia it is a game of *circumstances* (might have mispelled im not sure) i would rather drown unconsious than be set on fire and suffer for the rest of my life but i would rather be set on fire and recover in a few months or years than drown knowing i didnt have the time to say goodbye to my familly or accomplish what i wanted to accomplish
