I was amazed, in a good way, for how basic the mechanics are and how they could still lead to complex strategies. I wonder if you are planing to make a physical version of this game. I am sure it would be something both kids and chess enthusiasts would enjoy. As a game, it is solid, as a videogame, I agree that the learning curve and AI is kind of tough.

Allright, I think I mastered this game. I still mess up sometimes on really huge boards, but other than that I basically don't lose.
This game needs a harder AI. Maybe one that doesn't forget its king is under attack half the time.

So much of the strategy in this game is lining up troops and waiting for the opponent to screw up. Even against the hardest AI I only lose when I make a horrible blunder, and only win when the enemy screws up.
And the enemy screws up a lot. SOmetimes the enemy will attempt to make an offensive strike while their king is in check, even when they have very strong moves that break the check.
I win against the hardest AI about 3/5 of the time. I could probably do better if I actually understood the strategy of the game in more complex terms then "always attack unless you have to defend".

this is so frustrating i dont get it why are my units instantly killed with one push of the AI but I have to push the AI to a corner where he cant move to kill him??? -_-

Divoshi is now available as multiplayer (2-player to be exact) on http://www.come2play.com/appGame/multi.aspx?game_id=10045&channel_id=1&wide=1 .
Highly recommended!

Oh, one more note. Since you have the whole chess-like thing going, some sort of "check" warning (when your cheif is in danger) would help a lot.
I am not sure about it. I think you simply need to take care for your cheef.
Update: I added the check warning to the multiplayer game version on come2play .

Fun game, but I think it's going to take more time than I can spare to really learn it and be able to identify pieces/movement.

Wow the AI is brutal. If you just wanna play fast and loose even medium can completely crush you. I wish there was an option to play warpath with a fixed board. I really dislike the big boards because there are just too many options to calculate between each move. A game with this many possible moves is best when constricted a bit. See www.pushfight.com for an example of a more simple set of mechanics that is still very strategy heavy.
Thanks for the comment and for showing me your example, I didn't know there is a similar game. Anyway, Divoshi better resembles a real battle and is more intuitive in my opinion.
As for the number of options, what would you say to Go game, or Arimaa? There are even more possible moves in these games. You just need here to stick to main tactical principles, not calculating everything. I started to make Divoshi tactical guide: http://www.thunderbird.cz/games/divoshi-tactics .
Personally I too like small boards with 7 rows a little more than large ones, don't know yet which size is best. But the big ones are here to introduce large epic battles. Maybe I'll update the game version on my website and move large boards to the end of the warpath.

Great Game!I wasn about to try it out at first thinking it would be just another classic "chess" but it was surprisingly well thought. It might need a description for the move of each piece somewhere.
Thanks! It might not seem so but the game rules are result of a long development.
I thought they are clear enough but you may be right. Will place the complete rules on my website.
