Haha, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. In all seriousness though, if you are learning Japanese, every teacher should teach you all of this (it's the most fundamental thing of Japanese!). It's just that the approach is different.

Very interesting project! I came to check out the badge but found this a great learning experience! I have already shared the link with someone who is truly interested in learning Japanese! Maybe we might play this together....Thank you for sharing not only your talent but love of learning!
:P Actually, I don't love learning and that's why this thing exists! I found it really tedious having to remember the first 20 hiragana after my first lesson, and just couldn't memorize them no matter how much I drill and write and stuff, so I decided to make a GAME to remember them! My classmates really enjoyed this game as well. I admit this game isn't really professionally made (look at those crappy graphics!), but it does its job, I guess. Thank you very much for checking out the game and sharing it with your friend!
Sorry to hear that you disliked it :( If there's something about the game that you feel could be better, please do let me know. If it's just that you don't want to learn the writing system, well, the badge is easy enough and you can likely earn it in below 10 minutes (be glad there isn't a hard badge!).
Yes, I'm well aware of this. A game getting badged means it will attract all kinds of people rather than mostly just the people who are truly interested, and thus, the rating will inevitably drop. My other game lost about 0.1 stars of rating when it was badged as well. But then in return there are a lot more players, and more people who are in need of the game or want to play the game will find it, and in the end, that is what truly matters.
Very true! I wish I could do this, however, during development I noticed that there wasn't any free pronunciation sound files that I could use (at least not ones that I can use without potentially getting sued), so I skipped this feature. You can always refer to an external pronunciation guide! I actually tried to pronounce those kana myself at some point, but they turned out to be horrible and DISASTROUS (trust me, you would rather hear ray gun effects).

Great game. Came for the badge, but will come back later to go through it again. I studied Japanese in college but it is all but lost -- this looks like a great tool to get back into it, at least to get the fundamentals back down.

top, notch game. provides a fun and informative way to learn Kana. Your should defiantly consider producing more games like this.
:P Maybe that will require some more learning because Japanese writing usually has a lot of kanji, which are... um, Chinese characters? There are thousands of them and they take quite a lot of time to learn. Kanji characters are read as one or multiple kana, but the kana spelling usually isn't given (except in textbooks and children's comics). For example, 火鉢 is read as ひばち (hibachi). I think you meant hibachi by the way.

Yay, thank you greg for the badge (epic name as usual btw)! And thank you all for checking out Kana Warrior! As a token of appreciation, if you also play my other game "Anti-Idle: The Game" (which is quite popular by the way), I have some special gifts for you!! In the main menu of Kana Warrior, press Shift + A and you will see some gift codes to use in Anti-Idle!!!1! You can receive a medal for reaching Lv. 3, and a crown hat for clearing Adventure Mode!!! These two items are a must for every collector and will clutter your Anti-Idle inventory forever!!!!1! In all seriousness though, the items are quite awesome, but no worries if you can't get them - there are better alternatives! Anyway, I hope you all have a good time with Kana Warrior, and I appreciate any feedback! (For the Anti-Idle gifts, you must be playing Kana Warrior version 3.08 or higher, and Anti-Idle version 1711 or higher)

Easy badge is live! I wanted to promote this game, but I don't think many people are going to learn Japanese just to earn badges, so I decided to just have an easy badge early on, after completing the first set of characters. If you want to learn Japanese, keep playing! If you just want to earn the badge, I promise it's super easy.

@ceradeolugia actually, this game provides the characters list, and i didn't play this game long enough & unlock all the levels, but there're probably some levels about using for you to memorize ba bi bu be bo, pa pi pu pe po, etc.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@ceradeoluia can't really tell, but hiragana seems to be used a long with kanji. Katakana is mainly used for foreign words. And for replacing the word ba in Japanese, if you're talking about hiragana & katakana then use Ha with this mark " at the top right of the word. Like this: ば バ, it's better if you continue learn at some websites or books.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
How would you write "idiot" in Japanese? Like, it's pronounce like "baka" right? what word(s) would then replace ba in "baka"?

Thank you Tukkun, for replying! I'm sorry, it seems I was just being silly. I didn't understand the timing of sending back the boss-missiles, but once I realised my character's 'aiming' it got easier. (I feel foolish for first missing this...) I am still missing the missiles quite a bit, though. I seem to have to practise more at my timing skills, rather than my Japanese! ^^;

Oh man! I have to thank you soooo much! See,I once started a japanese course but stopped a week or two in because I can't seem to memorize stuff through drawing(or writing, lol) and you come and make the game on the way it's easiest for me! Oh god i'm so excited! Thank you so much!

I don't know why the hell such a simple game seems so much more fun than those elaborate multiplayer games with energy, card collection, kingdom domination and what not to me, but it simply IS! Am I the only one here?

Thank you for the response!(Sorry about my comment.)
I saw the Hepburn romanization system for the first time.
I can enjoy more(´ω`人)

Getting really frustrated with the boss battle. I seriously do not understand what I am doing wrong. I try hitting 'enter' as the missile/character flashes, but keep missing anyway.
I really try to time it, but it seems random as to when it accepts and makes the missile turn. Please explain this mechanic, as I am clearly doing something wrong.
And yes, I am fairly sure I am entering the correct kana. As it is now, I don't enjoy boss battling at all, even though I know the kana well, I just cannot time it right.
That's odd, can you play other games (which require using keyboard) on Kongregate properly? Have you tried restarting your computer? Another browser, maybe?

This is good game!
But a little mistake has been found.
False:ぢ(ji) ,ヂ(ji), ぢゃ(ja),ヂャ(ja),ぢゅ(ju),ヂュ(ju),ぢょ(jo),ヂョ(jo),づ(zu)
True :ぢ(di),ヂ(di),ぢゃ(dya),ヂャ(dya),ぢゅ(dyu),ヂュ(dyu)ぢょ(dyo)ヂョ(dyo),づ(du)
It's not "false", the ローマ字 as you type in this game is according to the Hepburn romanization system (look it up in Wikipedia). If you prefer to type them as di, dya, dyu, dyo, du..., you can simply change the input mode to "All" from "Hepburn" in the main menu (look at the top right corner). Enjoy!

well i havnt palyed it that far cause i am not interested but you get a good rating cause its awesome i wish there would be a lot more games like this cause it helps you in your life and is killing some time^^

Just to be clear. This game will not teach you Japanese. However this is a fun way to practice recognition if you are just getting into learning the language. If you complete the game I would highly recommend continuing with a class (assuming you are not already in one).
Yep, exactly - this game helps you recognize hiragana and katakana more quickly, but it is not meant to teach the language. You won't be able to speak Japanese just because you have finished this game. A course is highly recommended, or maybe some online tutorials!

good stuff ! now i can learn hiragana a bit easily compared to writing them.
please do kana and the combo word as well !
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
If you combined this with a touch screen on, let's say, an iPad or the 3DS so people could get some practice drawing the characters, that could be pretty cool. Also, having a recorded person speak the characters to get pronunciation could be a good tool. By all means, keep making games like this and putting them on Kongregate, but this does have some serious potential.

Hi!! Love this game!! t got the motivation for it that way. Anyways, your game here has made me more and more motivated to learn hiragana and Katagana!! Thank you so much for this game!! :3
Last thing, it would be awesome if you could create a Kanji Warrior, or something similar that we could use to learn Kanji

A game of pure entertainment combined with easy language acknowledgment, a masterpiece. An example that games can be used to enlarge our bondaries. 11/10, Marvelous, Fabulous, Perfect.
Hi! This game should autosave. Make sure that your Local Storage (right click -> Settings) is set at Unlimited. If it still doesn't save, make sure that cookies are permitted, you don't use things like DeepFreeze, and remember that using certain junk cleaner programs such as CCleaner may possibly wipe out your savefiles. This also applies to most other games on Kongregate.

This is the first time I comment a game, but you deserve a huge arigatou gozaimashita!
You remembered me my lost enthusiasm with japanese language!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
My complaint is from a typing perspective I don't like how i have to type chi instead of ti, or tsu instead of tu, or shi instead of si. I suppose from a pronounciation perspective its good. I would recommend maybe instead of a gunshot sound you have a voice pronounce or say the word, then you can have the typing actually match how you would type it on a computer.

Thanks so much to TUKKUN, I never thought learning Japanese would be this easy. I learned the whole Hiragana in 3 days with alot of motivation and enthusiasm. I LOVE THIS LITTLE GAME YOU PUT TOGETHER. VERY EDUCATIONAL. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR KANJI (Hopefully you release it) ^-^ !! さようなら
That was only the first step, but I'm glad to hear that you found learning hiragana with this game easy and motivating! Yes, I'm working on a Kanji version and although it probably won't be released anytime soon, there's some hope for it!

Finally some time to spare after midterms. Thanks for adding some additional typefaces, Tukkun. The serif font was throwing me off. Wish I had a way to give you a bit more kudos than a 5-star rating or positive comment.
