That's odd. Have you enabled cookies? Increased Local Storage (Right click -> Settings) to Unlimited? The game uses the same save system as many other single player games on Kongregate, so maybe you should look into these common problems.

Wish I was feeling better when I tried this game. Just been feeling too sick recently to try and learn Japanese. Will have to remember this game for when I no longer have this sinus headache, been rather interested in learning Japanese for a while now.

A great game for a school project man. gratz.
for those who wants a game meant to teach japanese there is a one called Koe (voice) here is a link about the game https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/297265509/koe-a-jrpg-with-japanese-at-the-core-of-gameplay.
Once more congratulations for your work and thanks for share it here on kongregate, and greg i also want to congratulate you for the initiative by giving this game some promo. gave 5/5 most for the inovation than for the game itself. keep on going with the good work Tukkun.

I nominate this game for the "worst badge on Kong" award. The fourth level made absolutely zero sense. Was the yellow line supposed to do something? Just blast at blocks until it ends. GREAT 10/10 GUYS! Or, 1 out of 5 stars is more realistic.
The yellow line is the "perfect" line, if blocks reach the yellow line you will not be able to achieve a perfect score. What do you mean it makes zero sense? I assume you ignore all the "characters" and just blast at random blocks? Well, I suppose you can "clear" a level that way, but that's definitely not how you're supposed to play it and you will get a very low score. I hope you - as a "badge hunter" - enjoy your new badge and 5 points, and I hope you are glad that there isn't a hard badge. Ah well, thank you for at least checking out the game.

Fun game. Reminds me a bit of Mario Teaching Typing. Any plans to expand it to include other alphabets? It would be great to have a version of this for Hindi.

Why is my save file gone everytime i reload the game?
and no its not about putting the storage limit to unlimited or deleting cookies, and its just this game.

I’m taking Japanese at University next year and we aren’t “allowed” to learn the writing system until 2nd year. Rosetta Stone lets you do it right away but its not a fun game. Thank you sooooooooo much for making this game. I will be using it for practice throughout my college life I think, even after mastery.

I never thought the maker of Anti-Idle would know Japanese. o-o
Funny that this popped up in my recommendation, because I am learning the kana right now. Awesome game!

Thanks to the game. I now understand you said "yoroshiku onegaishimasu" in the "best" comments. I know from animes that this is a very polite form of thanks. I wish to thank YOU in return to have let me learn to read your thanks. :)

I have wanted to learn Japanese for a long time, and I'm glad I found this. Though it's not pronunciation, one of the main reasons I wanted to learn Japanese is so I can read Japanese manga without waiting for an American release. Love the idea. :3 11 mangas out of 10

Hm, seems like a drawback that it's so focused on roumaji… Given that "any" input mode even accepts "bare gyo/dan style", like "ti" for chi, not sure how much more you could do and still gamify it, though. Perhaps something vaguely Mahjong-like, where kana get related through gyo or dan? Still, a good implementation of a roumaji-focused concept!

Great game ! Finally I'm able to re-learn those japanese character ^^.
Just a couple suggestions : "no hint mode" "katakana/hiragana hint mode" "learning mode" mostly for the katakana levels, since the ninjas move so fast, it feels much harder to learn the caracters as you go than with the hiraganas. there could also be endless/more hints. Then the player still has to beat the regular level to continue to the next one.
Stroke orders are generally complicated and not covered in the game part of this game, but you can actually see the stroke orders in the Character List screen of the game.

Excellent work on this game. I've always wanted to learn Japanese, but could never take the time to sit down and learn. I want to share this among the Jvlogger community via YouTube.

Regarding my last comment: I restarted my computer, which fixed the problem. It's not the game's fault. Sorry for the confusion.

This game freezes a bit for me. It's really annoying having typed and fired, only to realise it didn't register the first letter. Great game though
I'm sorry to hear that you have lag issues when playing the game. Have you tried disabling the game background by pressing the BG button in the top right corner and switch graphic quality to LOW? Zooming out the browser once or twice may also help (click outside of the game and then press Ctrl and "-" at the same time), and unnecessary programs should be closed. I'm not sure if this will fix your problem, but it should help reduce the lag. Also make sure that you are not using any third party program that allows you to type in a different language, since that can interfere with input in this game.

This game is not registering my key strokes. I can't get past level 1. [a] [space], [a] [enter], [a] [ctrl]. None of these combinations are working. I don't see any indication it even recognizes I hit [a].
That's odd. I have heard that this game might not work properly if you use certain combinations of operating system and browser (someone reported Mac OS + Firefox), so maybe you should try with a different browser?

The Thing is.... there's mo easy way of learning a language especially those with different character of letters==on the contrary there are tons of fun way and all I'm saying is those that we enjoy doing tend to stick in our heads more easily. There are also extra rewards in challenging our brain some new language... Anyway you'll get a big OK out of me

xArbitrary, the fact that it may be easy is a good thing. Us here are the ones learning Japanese, not the ones who know it.
Have you tried Free Play Mode? But yeah, you're right that it could be easy, after all the intention of this game is to teach and let you practice Hiragana and Katakana, so it's not really aimed at the people who have already mastered it :P

For anyone who is actually serious about learning the kana, i highly recommend the book "Remembering the Kana" by James W. Heisig. I've used it, it really does work and it's far easier than brute force memorization. Methods like this game are better than nothing but if you are serious, that book will make your life a whole lot easier.
Thanks for the recommendation! Actually, the original purpose of this game was not to teach the kana, but to allow you to practice what you have learned (it should train your speed and accuracy, and allows you to know which kana you still haven't remembered). But I decided to add Adventure Mode where the kana characters are taught, to make this game accessible for people who have no prior knowledge of kana. Some people prefer learning using books, some people prefer games, some people prefer making up their own methods. Sometimes a combination of methods is used. So... yeah.

I only started to play this because of the anti-idle rewards, but it is actually a very fun and intriguing way to learn Japanese - great job Tukkun :) 5/5
You can do that! Look at the bottom of the main menu, there's a menu that you can open up from there, where you can choose between 4 kana typefaces and 2 romaji typefaces!

Thanks a lot! This got me re-motivated to revise my Hiragana and Katakana! Might even start learning Japanese again. I finished the first book of the "Japanese From Zero!" series and a bit of the 2nd but stopped quite a while ago.
