@tigermike Repeat some of the older levels (I liked Rivers End) to get more points into your mana acquiring skills, that will help you be able to attack faster since you accumulate mana points faster.

As 14kurtis14 there's definitely a too big difficulty spike on Unholy Temple, there are a few other unnecessarily big difficulty spikes; it feels like the game needs quite a bit of tweaking in this department; otherwise a cool game.

Level 20 is impossible without a brilliant weapon. 0_o
You go from fighting enemies with ~200 health to enemies with ~500 health. That's insane.

Is it possible to sell the longsword? It's been in my store for the whole game, and now it's sad and alone with nothing but 12 empty shelves to keep it company.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Maybe I'm dumb, but I'd love a trash can to get rid of all those old items wort 10 coins which nobody will ever buy. Is there a trash can I did't notice?

So an issue with the regeneration spell, it gives you 2 regen, but if you already have 2 regen from items it does not raise your regen, it just sets it at 2. That kind of sucks because it makes the spell worthless.

Dad: Oh, by the way. I've had to take out a 30,000gp loan to pay for my trip, the interest is charged every day so best to pay it off as soon as you can, there's a good boy. Me: I love you too dad.

The game is really enjoyable, but it suffers TREMENDOUSLY from scaling. Enemy health goes, in 1 adventure change, from 40ish to 150, then to 500. My attacks still do 20-50 damage (50 being a charged fireball). I do not want to attack 1 out of 5 enemies 25 times. This does not make for an enjoyable encounter.

Some calculation: there is an interest rate of 0.5% per day (!) on your "daddys" loan. this accumulates to 15.56% in 30 days, reaching 496.28% in 360 day. your "daddy" sure was in a hurry, rushing to the next loan shark. why not just sell your little boy directly into bond-slavery... ;-)

I personally thought the debt aspect was pretty interesting. Added an additional layer of strategy to the game and provided a goal to work towards.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The debt was an amusing add to the game, without it it seems pointless, or better yet without purpose. Why bother with the shop when the only thing it's good for is making more money to buy stuff for the shop...you need more uses for the gold. Maybe the interest rate was a tad high yes, but removing it wasnt such a good idea. otherwise I enjoyed this game, good idea's so far. =)

A little sad that you don't get anything for match 3 or more in 2 different directions at once, it doesn't even give you the extra turn with 2 3's even though it should really count as 5 in a row.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
With spells like cold snap, it's possible to kill the same enemy 8 times in rapid succession, providing extra treasure; while this is clearly an exploit, it adds an interesting dimension to the game.

I'm going to agree with some other comments posted here: some different battle backgrounds would be nice. Otherwise, this game's a decent little time waster.

Fun game with original concept, but difficulty skyrocket at Unholy Temple... Seriously, 500hp dudes ? Damn, it takes forever to kill them. Plus, need a badge for refunding the debt and it would be great to add more RPG thing (lvl evolution, caracteristics...) than only bonus equipement.

@PestilenceWarrior: in the armory you click on the health potion and that's where you can use consumables, (i.e. food)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I agree with Socran on this one. The debt either needed to be revised, or some other goal needs to get put into place. Just playing without a goal gives you no reason to improve or use the store, which makes this just another match-3 game. If still a quality one

If you're having trouble with Unholy Temple, try a setup with Fool's Gold, Sneak Attack, and Warlord. Those were my main source of damage, my other three spells were Planned Assault, Fire Storm, and Ice Storm. After 4 losses, I switched to that and breezed through with over half health remaining.

Haven't even left on my 1st "Adventure", but... Yes, I realize I won't be able to afford anything in the shop at the beginning, but would it be too much to ask to at *least* see what everything actually costs...?

'River's End' should be renamed to 'A Spot A Little Further Down River From The Last Time You Were Here Grinding For Unholy Temple.' Just a suggestion anyway. :)

For someone who normally makes very high quality games, this seems incredibly phoned in. For one, there's no ending sequence, just the achievement. For two, several spells are buggy (Timewarp especially), and it is possible when using gem-altering or gem-destroying effects to screw up the game's ability to recognize and remove matches(!), something that happened to me once after a Midas Touch, if I recall correctly. Further, as someone who played the original Puzzle Quest, half the point of that game was that the enemies took turns on the board. In this, the enemies merely feel like countdown timers to how long you have to finish the area. Also, it's non-intuitive but extremely annoying that whenever you beat an enemy, if you didn't do so on the end of your turn, you risk losing actions.

Nice take on the match-3 game. A little request I have is to have some indicator of how many enemies there are left in the adventure. That way I know when to pull out all of the stops. :D

After coming across that wizard (the shop owner), Papa Louie doesn't seem SO bad. At least Louie didn't leave me with a 30k loan @ 180% A.P.R. on top of running the shop. But then again, killing werewolves > making tacos for fat guys, so, yeah...

I grinded for an hour at River's End because it was to hard to continue so I paid of the debt. Bummer, I am pretty sure my stuff is better.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
WOW, there's a huge jump in difficulty from River's End (dungeon 19) to Unholy Temple (dungeon 20). #19 has three guys, with ~200 HP. #20 has five guys, with 300-500HP.

I love the game. The enemy dialog and item descriptions are great. I do miss the option to play as a female character. I mean, for this type of game, gender isn't all that important, but one of the things I loved about the last game was that there WAS a female option.

When the enemy is about to die (1 hit) wait till the 2 phase turn, then you can kill him twice (hence you get double rewards). Yes its a bug.

when you manage to make an 8 in a row, it still only says five of a kind (as to howto do it? , get 8 in a row of treasure and gem at most two of the same type next to one another and then cast wealth)

What kind of wizard takes out a mafia loan with 182.5% APR? He has to have a credit rating in the negatives.... I'm betting he's got a serious addiction, and he went on a trip to avoid getting his kneecaps broken.

The store could be for a mining company, with the amount of coal and diamonds you start churning out in the later stages. I'm beginning to wish there was a "sell all coal" or "sell all of this type" option.
