i can't get past a single level because the waves are inconsistant.the other protector games are a bit better in that respect

This protector's really good, just a few things that I'd like to see: 1) Selling units in battle. I don't know how many times I've placed the wrong unit or just wanted to change it, but I couldn't. I've actually lost because of this before. 2) Customizing unit's AI. Like say always attack first or last, or attack weakest or strongest or ones without the status effects that you give, or attack every other one. 3) More info on stuff. Preferably in the protectopedia like before, but as long as you can see more stats on your units and enemy units, it'd be good. 4) Make melee soldiers worth a darn after the first two missions. Either make them stronger, bigger range or some that can hit flying. Anyway, this is still a great game, and I hope you make some of these changes in Protector V at least. 5/5

Altogether a solid game though a bit repetitive. The role playing aspects spice up things nicely.
The inventory is sort of pain in the ass to sort through. I got some ideas for improvement so I suggest:
* a list with item icon, name, properties, sell and buy prices given in each line.
* allow sorting the items by name, prices etc. This should make playing more fun. Right now if I want to find the fire ring and I got to shift through several pages of things. That's not fun.
* some items have same feature named twice like +2% gold gain and 3% gold gain. Those should be replaced with just one % or with other feature altogether.
* put the faction/store name immediately before the 'Store stock' string.

Needs to have a Hero on Map type of thing. You can deploy a hero once per map. Also I know it might make it seem more like a few other games, but different races with different bonus's would be great/awesome.

more in-depth help; use 2 of the starting heroes constantly (fire/energy) and get a third one of different element which has a basic range/mage unit. (I went for poison thief/augmented) repeat the first 2-3 missions 5-10 times so you have a good advantage. put some points into wisdom and everything else into range/magic damage. use items that change element rather than getting a lot of heroes. Jonas Expedition usually finds crappy items, so don't expect much of him. when units level up, buff crossbowmen's slow (ankle shot) and the mage's debuff; these two skills are amazing for killing. make other units more focused on damage. don't count on Melee units much. save consumables for big missions. (over 20 waves) this setup should make you slide through the game without losses. if the mission has many different enemies (different elements) just look for what element has the least "strong" coverage and use it. hope it helps.

What I would really like to see in future versions is an adjustable tactical AI, so that (for instance) infliction specialists could be ordered to hit every enemy in turn instead of the one in front every time.

Tutorial/protectopedia wasn't terribly on the effects (or lack thereof?) of having one hero selected vs another during (inside, not prior to) a battle. Can someone tell me if it changes the XP ratio for a hero or something.

for all having trouble and who don't want a single loss; start off by playing the missions you already passed over and over. like, 5-10 plays of the first 3 missions. use items that change elemental orientation rather than buying a different elemental hero. have ranged units on all heroes. use the 2 heroes (fire/energy) and get a third of your choice, I went for poison with thieves who hunt items and ingame gold. you should rip through the game easily.

Oh, and also, effects should stack.
If I have two Trainee's, both with debuff at 15%, the debuff should not stay at 15%, it should either be debuffed by 15% of the original, or debuffed of 15% of whatever it is after the first debuff. It basically makes lots of units with effects absolutely useless.

Really needs a better storehouse layout. I want to be able to group things together.
I'm thinking using tabs would be a good idea? Storehouse Room 1, would be one tab, 2, second tab. And those tabs would also have unlimited pages.
I end up using heroes just to store all my elemental changes so I don't have to search for them.
Also why should I waste money name changing?

Gadge, it isn't really a case of waiting for the right hero to pop up, since you can get elemental change and unit change items quite easily. Also, you start the game with 3 heroes who in my opinion are 'right' enough to complete virtually any level if you do it well

Gadge, I'm pretty sure the "normal" maps recycle themselves, so they'll pop up again later if you don't beat it right then. And if you're talking about the elemental types, there's a shop that opens up later that lets you change elemental types, plus you find items that allow you to do it. I found my first cold on the second map I ever played.
And just in case I'm being unclear again, in my previous comment I meant the option to actually upgrade to the advanced class of that hero, not upgrade the actual unit (like upgrading one of their skills).

You can't have all types of units at your disposal? There are some maps you simply won't be able to complete unless you have the right heroes - meaning if you need the right heroes to pop up? Many of the maps you only get one chance at, with no room for trial and error, and some you'll simply never get a chance to do properly unless you have the right hero combination?
That takes out so many things from the previous Protectors I enjoyed. If I make one mistake in a non-storyline map, I'll never get a chance to figure out how to right it. If I don't have the right hero available, I'm screwed.
Sorry, major steps backwards. Not a 1/5 - because I still like the Protector games - but definitely not a 5 anymore.

A great addition to the series. I would have liked a better protectopedia though so that I could determine what units could do without having to play a round with them. Still, overall I am very impressed and pleased.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I'm not sure whether this has been said before or not, but I would appreciate a 'sell' or at the very least 'upgrade' option be added to units, since several times I've wanted to do this. Unless of course I'm totally missing the option to do it somewhere, in which case I'm a dumbass that needs some direction.

Also a different or more obvious speed system would be nice, I thought a 17atk with 7spd legionnairre was AMAZING till I used that hero.... broken dreams... maybe like attacks per second or something?

I like this protector. The others I could play for 5, maybe 10 levels then suck terribly at them, with this one it seems to stay at a easy playable difficulty. Sorting items AND heros would be nice though...
and wtf is a protectomon lol?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I would really appreciate some way of sorting items, as wading through a pile of 100 items to figure out which ones I want to equip and which ones may be useful at some point and which ones I'm better off selling. I'd suggest a sort function based on what stats it affects (ie, sort from highest tactics boost to lowest). Also, if I could "favorite" certain items so I could find them more easily, that would be great as well. With so many identical icons, it can be frustrating mousing over every single thing in my inventory to find that one hat that gives me a +5 tactics.
Also, organize talents better. Either organize them into groups of how you get them (storyline, scrolls, etc.) or alphabetically, or by effect. It's really frustrating to mouse over every talent to figure out if I have bought a certain scroll yet.
Still a great game without these functions. I enjoyed it even more than the other protectors. 5/5

ey the character creation is almost the same as the game mount & blade! only this is more simpler. anyway good job on the game

Was I the only person who thought that Fire in the Heroes panel meant the element?
I didn't realise until I clicked it.
I'm so confused as to who has what element, why couldn't it just be in writing?
