Quick Guide for PPL coming back.
I was able to reset skills and upgrade. Can't see waves tho.
For 90% of the missions, upgrade mages and EXP gain and spamming mages from the back to front a debuffer will solve your problems. IGNORE the upgraded units like the plague

Mages don't glow anymore and you cant reset skill points, because these features are only available on Kongregate. And since Flash was removed from most browsers, the game can no longer check if you are playing on Kong. The missing wave preview bar seems to be a display error, because sometimes my game glitches and the bar can be seen for a second. I only hope we can get this game fixed one day.

To the comment below, I remember being able to reset skills anytime you want and not having to restart the entire game. It's REALLY annoying now that you can't. Doesn't make sense.

Do the units not light up when they level up like they used to? Or is it just me? Hard to keep track of which units to upgrade.

this game really has gone down hill since I played it a few years ago. There did use to be a fast forward button. There was also something just above all the units that showed it had numbers for each wave and if you clicked it you could see what you were going to be up against and theirs weaknesses, strengths and if they had any special abilities. The speed was so much faster, each one would take like 5-20mins depending on the map. This 3hrs to complete 1 map is a joke.

There's also the download link if you have a standalong player.

Finally got the hard badge. Wrote some useful information in the wiki if anyone wants to go for it: https://flashgaming.fandom.com/wiki/Protector

The hardest level that took dozens of trial and error processes made was The Rat Trap, so all it takes is maxed out skill points for dexters only upgrading their base damage instead of critical within the level alongside 6 poison units placing 2 in the very center and the four having all of them with only upgraded special to quickly defeat the enemies and placed closest to the corners of the map, and dexters on every single place except the very edge for the fire units to be placed and have one maybe two upgraded with base damage. All the skill points should be used on all units to take full advantage and towards quick learner. All this for the level is guarantee not to lose a single life. (3/3)

When you get to the 10th wave on certain hard level, be sure the points are used towards fire & energy and constantly pave (you can either use the remaining points for cheap paving costs or gain extra experience quicker). Select special more often than power when you have enough gold to upgrade units, but quickly add as many needed to avoid losing as you stockpile money on hard levels. On unknown ruins, only use fire units and constantly add as many as you can squeeze, but be sure to have skill points towards all the skills on the left and maxed out paver & maxed out teacher as well to avoid instant defeat when the second zombie wave appears as I experimented with trial and error to easily know the trick to beating certain levels. (2/3)

The tactics I used going from easy to hard: pour every skill into only basic units throughout the game (yes even I can agree advanced units are a waste even on hard mode which I did fine entirely without them) and only pour the skill points into units necessary to beat the enemies based on weakness. As you earn enough points where there are two columns that merge into one that give the units extra damage, use the skill point on those (after the first 3 skill points used towards only one of the basic units). (1/3)

One of the best potential games that fell so flat due to insufficient instructions... MAn I hate to leave this as a 1 star... but dang, I have no choice.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
OK, so the space bar is disabled in the tutorial, but works in the regular maps.
There needs to be instructions added to the 4 special units notes when you mouse over, or somewhere in the tutorial... otherwise pointless as there does not seem to be any explanation as to how to upgrade to these units.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Needs a fast forward. Programmer needs to fix it so that pressing the space bar deselects units like the instructions say. 1 star. Nice artwork and good concept.

Even trying to get 5 games for the best of 2008 quest is too much. I'm biased because I hate Tower Defense but THIS. This is to go even FURTHER beyond.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Checking through my older badges on Kong and saw this was the first game I ever played that offered badges. back in 2008. man how the time has gone by.

The Rat Trap is far harder than the "intended" final level. So are the Unknown Ruins. For me, these two were the hardest in the game by far.

Can't undo, move, or sell if I accidentally place a unit in the wrong place. Paving costs way too much compared to most units to be worth it in most matches, even with discounts. Advanced units are 10x the price of standard units but definitely nowhere near 10x as powerful...not even 5x or 3x, more like 2x if that. Better off spamming standard mages and occasional dexers than saving up for necromancers, and against anything where normal dexers are useless paladins are useless and insultingly expensive to boot.

For the medium badge. Complete at least the 4-5 easiest map. I choose the Shoreview Inn (easy, 20 waves). Build without upgrading too much (maybe 10 points here and there max), then around halfway start collecting 300 points, always look if you are not overpowered, add other mages if needed, look monsters weakness, then collect another 300 points. Do that one game for the 2 necromancers, than another game for the 2 paladins.

Protected is a game that will STEAL your FREE TIME, see what he says up!!!
And leave you feeling totally unhappy and unfair and unjustified.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Hire Necromancer, Paladins, at which level, on first levels it's impossible, the game give you no room for 300 points to spend for one or sooner or later you will die. No Fast Forward. This game absolutely is a time wasted designed to waste people's life in watching. You can't even sell your troops for the god sake.

Wow, trip down memory lane when the badge of the day is the game that brought me to Kongregate and the first game I ever got a badge on
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I used to play this game many years ago, probably around the time when it was new. Thank you, Kongregate BOTD, for bringing back this brilliant nostalgia.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
A single match takes like half an hour. Way too long! And then there may be one wave that's good against a specific type of mage and all that time is wasted.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The easy badge may be easy, but the game is not. I lose most of my life in the second level while it's supposedly easy level. I could only afford 3 mages and they weren't strong enough to kill the second wave.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I lose track of time so easily in this game, super fun. Played one stage and didn't realize how long I was actually playing for.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Pressing space to cancel placement flat out doesn't work. Had to give up a Marathon level in order to start over and tell another wave to come.

"Protector is a game that will steal your free time and leave you feeling happy to have lost it." Das trifft`s doch gut :)

How to win the legendary protector badge: 1. NEVER buy an advanced unit 2. focus your skill tree advancements to fill all four of the ordinary wizards first then pick teacher then put a couple in dexter and one in paver.
3. there is only one level that needs paver it is a hard level on the right side of the map save that for last. 4. Put a purple and a green at the opening of the level and level them as specials only everyone else gets reds and generalist use dexters sparingly. 5. keep in mind that there is absolutely no rhyme or reason as to how the levels are named easy to hard
some of the easiest levels are named hard and for me the hardest level was one labeled as easy called shoreview inn. hope this helped
