The whole "weakest goes first" is really annoying when fighting those only slightly weaker: it gives them a massive advantage when they can shoot down a ship in a volley and weaken another,

You need to adjust your weakest fleet calculation then, it only seems to look for the ship with the highest hull and sets that as the strongest fleet. Eg Total enemy hull is 1100 or so with max ship hull of 400, I attack a port in a ship with 250 ish hull- I go first. I upgrade my ship to 400+ hull which is biiger than the biggest enemy ship and I get alpha striked down by the "weaker" fleet of 1100 hull total

IME, against all ships except the final boss, an even mix of sail- and crew- attacks is the most effective strategy. Remember: if they're below 15 max AP, they're effectively dead.
Note: The Flying Dutchman is immune to sail and crew damage, as well as boarding. Use quick- and hull- attacks with dynamite.

If the weakest fleet attacks first, how come when I my ships have 400 hp, I get to attack 250hp ship fleet first while 600hp ship fleets attack me first?

If the enemy ship has higher hull, always aim for sails to reduce their AP to or less. or below so they cant quickshot twice.

Say when you buy silver from an average place, its price goes up to higher than the most expensive place, and then you can just sell it back for profit after a few days.

@Dustin: Every ship has AP, it is maximum when the ship is undamaged and you lose AP whenever the sail or the crew is hit. If your AP is less than 15, you are unable to attack. It works for your ships and for the opponents as well.

If you guys like this game there is a game called "Tradewinds Legends" that is a pc game that is very similar to this game.

I have somehow glitched the game, after liberating the last enemy town I was told that the compass to the end boss is in the last town. With no town left I'm stuck.

Don't forget the achievements, even with the best upgrades it will be near impossible to defeat the Ghost Ship if you do not use the points from gaining achievements.

I am not trying to be rude, but how about another achievement and like something with a large amount of money acquired or something??

If you are getting beaten by the dutchman, remember to spend your stars on upgrades. Click the star on a post in any port...

I'm using ship of the line in all three spots, each one with all the damage and hull upgrades, no cargo upgrades, and using dynamyte shot on the hull. Still I can't kill that ghost ship.

Great game. Nice change for an RPG. I think "End Turn" should be automatic like it is in most RPGs. Unless there is a reason for it being an option further into the game...

Well, just went through the game, gave it a 4/5. It would be a 5/5 if : -The player hadn't to figure out himself what are the stats for, -The trading system were clearer (ie. an up/down prices window opening up when cursor is on a city, see Frontier for a very good trading system), -Fights were longer, which would mean that they'd ask more strategy from the player even at higher levels (At first you have to try different fighting styles to win, but as you get more and more money you can just spam dynamite canon balls and aim hull to one-shot' enemies, which is boring).
Except these points, very nice game.
PS : For those who still wonder, "Aim for Sail" reduces enemies' max AP, and the crew stat is used when boarding adverse ship, a match is done between adverse crew and yours, deciding about the success probability.

It would be cool if you got more money for defeating ships and not damaging them too much. It's weird that you can salvage a brand new, undamaged ship and get like 3 coins for it.
