APOCALYPSE MODE – Top row: Put Cannons on 4th/6th spots, then a Cannon on 2nd OR 8th spot, whichever side spawns more. Put Bunkers on 3rd, 5th, 7th spots, and next to 3rd Cannon. Cannon/Bunker on remaining spots. Pop~620–650M. Upgrade Cannons Lv2, highest HP to lowest. Research ADV ECO Pop~1,000M. Upgrade 2 Cannons to Lv3. Place Eco Cntr, row 2, 1st/last spots. Upgrade both. Upgrade other 2 Cannons Lv3. Research NUC. FUS. Place Eco Cntr, row 3, 1st/last spots. Upgrade both. Place Bunker 2nd spot from left and 2nd spot from right to cover Centers. Pop.~1,500M. Place Misl Comp, row 2, all empty spots. Eco Cntr, row 3, 3rd from left and 3rd from right, upgrade both. Pop~2,000M. Upgrade 2 Cannons to Lv4. and all Misl Comp AND Bunker to Lv2. PLNT SHLD. Upgrade other Cannons Lv4. Research ADV. ENRG; in row 3, place 5 Misl Comp 1 space apart, upgrade all Lv2, put Misl Def between. Max all Misl Comp, then Misl Def, then Bunkers. When $ is ~5,000M, replace Eco Cntrs with maxed Misl Comp.

Started by upgrading two ion towers to max, they were plenty powerful to prevent population decrease even though I didn't upgrade the bunkers. wasn't until I had 5-7 fully upgraded ion towers that I started researching the missile towers.

Finally got apocalypse, chess board pattern bunkers and towers seems to work best for me. I needed 6 economic centers to have enough money for the upgrades. I ended up with 5-7 fully upgraded ion towers at the front which made quick work of the smaller ships, at then end the last row was all missile towers apart from two missile defenders.

Trump would hate this game, imagine universal health care. Although shooting and nuking aliens would suit him just fine. However he would insist on building a wall around the Earth to stop the aliens so there wouldn't be any money left for defence...

Finally beat the final boss. I'd say it's the Independence Day queen based on the beam weapon. A massive amount of missile bases is recommended to kill it before it wipes away your weapon systems leaving you helpless.

Wow, I barely won, only 138 million left those last 10 waves were really damaging. Not sure what was doing so much damage but about 250-1000 million a hit ouch.

3427m people apocalypse difficulty, 3 bunkers, one missile defense, 4 ion cannons, rest missile silos all upgraded fully let's see if I win.

Beat normal on first try, same basic strategy as easy. 4 max lv.ion cannons, 4 max lv. missiles, 3 max bunkers, 1 max anti-missile, two upgraded economics centers, and all research completed. The planetary shield + anti-missle stops almost all damage. Fun game.

Took three attempts, to beat easy. I build zero bunkers, 4 ion cannons, two missile silos. and 2 economic centers. I was spending way too much on bunkers the first game and not upgrading. Lv.3 ion cannons are way better than lv.1. Also, put your weapons in the front row, so they can fire immediately. I was placing bunkers first, weapons second, and economy third. Wasn't working at all.

When the last two waves of enemies wipe your pop from 7B to 800m, you begin to regret replacing those bunkers with more nukes...ah well..60 trillion in revenue aint bad

Tips: 1) Population is top priority over economy until ~2000M. 2) Bunkers' effect stacks. Enemy target priority is balanced between your highest level turret and max population damage. 3) Level 3 turrets are most efficient use of money. 4) Missiles way better than Ion (2-4 Ion are enough). @jonathanwbush: Yes, your population is in every square even if you've already built something there, so if the aliens are targeting your cannons, people are still dying. They do nothing to protect your weapons, aside from potentially dissuading the attacking ships from targeting those squares in favor of another one where they can do more population damage.

I like this game but I don't understand bunkers at all.
They're "underground bunkers" that float in space. In game description says They help protect nearby populations but not structures....so I built up a defense then sold all cannons etc. and put nothing but bunkers in 100% of the slots and when I was attacked I was constantly losing population ? They seem to just be high hp meat shields or a barricade of some kind but not really all that useful cause if you upgrade something else even if its in the middle.... completely surrounded by leveled up bunkers it gets lit up and killed quickly
Idk I guess every square is your population even if somethings there?

To beat Apocalypse: Try to surround non-bunkers with bunkers--above, below, left and right. 1: Build 1 Ion in middle of 1st
row. Fill 1st row with Ion, bunker, Ion, bunker, going out from the center. Build bunkers under left- and right-most Ions.
2: Upgrade Ions starting from middle. Build bunkers under each. 3: Research Adv. Economics. Upgd mid Ion to 3. Build 5 EC's
in bottom row. Upgd 2 inner Ions. 4: Research nukes. Upgd 3 EC's. Build 4 MC's in 2nd row. Upgrade 2 EC's.

Whoa!!! Just beat the game with Ion Cannons Missile Defense and Bunkers. Lots of bunkers. The idea is to get lots of Economic Centers going so that you can get Laser Defense and then the Planetary Shield. The earlier you get the planetary Shield the better.

BUT can you beat it WITHOUT using even a single MISSILE COMPLEX on apocalypse? My current record is 1100 million people left at the end. There is something calming about watching the planet erupt in ion cannon fire when the enemy touches the top of the screen. It is MUCH tougher than regular apocalypse.

This is a great, short (about 1/2 hour) game. Beautifully polished. Just a few examples: excellent strategic tradeoffs from the first second of play (firepower vs. defense vs. economics); smooth missile retargeting and graphics; dissolving missile contrails... And this game was one of the first flash games on Kong in 2008!
This game is so good that I keep coming back to play it over the years, always trying to beat my previous high score and end with more population and money.
Kudos to Kevin Lin, the developer. Hope he's gone on to bigger and better things.

huh... didn't even realize that reh "research" tab was there until I tried to get the hard badge... I beat the game on easy with just one row of ion cannons upgraded to level 2 or 3
