This was still a fun experience, but I found it to be a bit lacking compared to the earlier games. It took too long to get to the new mechanics, causing the game to feel like it ended too quickly. This may be remedied by the mobile version, but some more levels in the kongregate version would have been appreciated.
For some reason, if I already broke the window before freeing the bird, then I can't get the flower ingredient. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a glitch?
This was good, but it certainly can be improved. For starters, I found the screen to be too focused on the character. This lead to me attempting leaps of faith and ultimately dying. In addition, the lack of me being able to see all of my surroundings caused me to unintentionally walk into my death. Second, please implement a checkpoint system. It gets frustrating having to redo an entire level just because I messed up the end part. Despite these two glaring issues, this was a fun and challenge puzzle game. Despite my frustration, I still persevered through to the end. The plot was interesting and the puzzles used the mechanics well with a natural difficulty curve. 4/5. Keep up the good work.
I can image the conversation between the developers during the making of this: "What's a cool new gimmick we can put into our mediocre series?" "I know! So, you know the stairs from Castlevania?" "Yeah. They sucked because you couldn't jump on them." "Well hear me out: we do the same thing, but now you go slow on the stairs too. And we'll design all the puzzles around being primarily slowed down and restricted from moving" "Genius. Let's do this."
I really enjoy the concept of this game. The idea of combining scrabble and texas hold 'em is pure genius. I do have one major gripe with this game: Why can't I keep my winnings after leaving a room? I had over 300 fish when I decided to leave to join another table, but when I went back, I suddenly only had 100. If there's a reason, could you explain why? If not, why this design choice?
Other than that, this is a fantastic game.
There's a difference between gold kibbles and blue kibbles - it's highly likely your room was playing with blue kibbles, which are only shown on the Kongregate high score table. Also, the buy-in at the table is always capped at 100.
This demo has done a fantastic job of enticing me into checking out the full game. I like the spin you've put on Sudoku and how the puzzles naturally ramp up in challenge. I hope to see some really brain-taxing puzzles in the final version.
5/5
Not to mention, the pacing of the new ideas wasn't that great. It seemed like a new mechanic was introduced before there was a really cool puzzle that used the previous mechanic. The last few levels sort of accomplished this, but it would be better if those types of levels occurred right before a new mechanic was introduced.
