You might not have been keeping up with Indie gaming trends, but the “roguelike” name has been expanded in its popular use. Many people are calling these new games roguelites, which is the tag I would have used, but Kongregate doesn’t have one. On the other hand, a lot of people still just call games like BoI, Spelunky, Rogue Legacy, and Faster Than Light “roguelikes”. I agree that it doesn’t have the turn based combat or overhead view of traditional early roguelikes, but words are defined by how people use them, and people are using roguelike to mean games that don’t necessarily have those traits (but have randomization, permadeath, and difficulty).
