All the planes and blimps suck, yes, but what I find ten times worse is the booster gates. They slingshot you in a random direction after you twirl around them, and if you do go through them the boost is so tiny I can't even detect it.
After replaying 3-3 a few times to try and get the glitchy gem at the end, it stayed there when I killed all the enemies without approaching it. I had to use bombs to kill the last few without getting too close. Love the adventure time aspect of the game! Hate the repetitiveness. Hate that everything kills you in 1 hit. Hate the bugs. 1/5
Hey Chad, glad you got the hang of it. I know it takes some getting used to lol. Have you tried the new car configs and other vehicles since I uploaded the update?
Oh! I've got it! have the Up/Down keys be forward and backward thrust in the air! Cuz right now I just float through space when in midair or off the course and have to reset. With forward thrust I could fly around like an awesome future car. =P and have the WASD control pitch, yaw, and roll. Although that displaces the upward thrust and down jet.. 2 and X?
Haha, you've got your hands full already with all my suggestions.
In the air 'W' is thrust, 'shift' is up-jet. To slow down I pull the 'nose' up (turn the bottom toward the direction of travel) and use the up-jet. It also fun to fly like a helicopter using 'shift' only lol
Awesome. Using the S key made the handling much easier (yet still difficult). Might I suggest the friction be that much all the time, instead of having to hold the S key while driving? If the friction were higher then pressing S would give you like super friction. Haha, idk. Also, when going from ground to air, the up arrow changes function from accelerate to "dive bomb". Maybe you could switch the functions of W and S with the Up and Down arrows in air, giving you the "thrust" and "down jet" functions in air, and letting the WASD keys control pitch, yaw, and rolling, which all logically go together anyways. That wraps up this batch of suggestions. =P Thanks for replying to my comments, it has inspired me to test your game and I've had a lot of fun doing it. Since you made the game and have put lots of time into it, you are a master of the controls. My suggestions are to make it easier to learn, which would get many more people to play it. Best of luck!
Yes, I'm seeing that lol, the learning curve is a bit tougher than I planned, without flight it would be simple. The thing about the keyboard is that it can only recognize so many normal keys at once, plus the modifier keys (shift, ctrl, alt) If you have a XBOX 360 or any other USB controller plug it in, start the game, then press 'K' to bring up the input manager. As for the 'S' key while on the ground, I use it briefly at low speeds to get turned around quicker, or on the dirt/ice to help it turn, holding it down can make it harder to control, but also remember when you release the key the suspension will slightly "bounce" back to normal, usually causing a slide.
I just tried the friction on the different surfaces and it needs to be turned up, because I just burn rubber for a few seconds before even moving, and trying to turn is impossible too. If you go like 5 mph you can do fine but I wanna go fast AND be able to hand this thing. I haven't played any other unity car games, so this is the best one I've played too =P
The headlights and tire smoke are nice touches and the game has a nice frame, especially the flying and being able to control your car in air. The only thing that makes it difficult are the controls. Needs better handling, and I could see myself playing this for hours (on maybe a slightly larger map).
Ah, you should try the S key (down jet) when you need grip, even on the ice it helps :O
This ability has become a favorite for me, especially after a spin out. In fact if you are turning hard at a decent speed and tap the S key, the sudden grip, then loss of grip, causes a drift, much like the e-brake, except that the e-brake doesn't upset the suspension as much.
Yeah the tire smoke was an asset months ago, letting me know when I have full traction or not and on which wheels. I have got to add a sound effect for the wheel motors, this will be a unique experience for sure! Jet-thrust sounds and tires will be cool too...
Handling takes a bit of experience to get comfortable with, as in any race game. You should see me drift around the 'pylons', it's intense! Not as easy to do with the keyboard controls, I'll work on the steering in the next few days. Thank you for taking the time to respond, much appreciated ;)
Thanks for playing! Like any car game it's impossible to make a car handle exactly like a real car, but compared to ALL the car games I have played that are made with Unity, this is by far, much closer to real world handling. The trick is the suspension setup, and friction between the wheel and ground. The brown area is lower friction (dirt) and the white area in the back is very low friction (ice/snow). Using a USB controller gives you analog control of the steering, which is very helpful for drifting having immediate steering response ;) Thanks for the feedback! *UPDATE - keyboard steering has been adjusted*
Game freezes every time I buy something.
That's nothing compared to me not being able to not see the enemies at all. I have red-green colorblindness and the triangular enemies blend right into the background.
Still can't see the red arrows to navigate, just like the first two games. I have to look up a walkthrough just to see where the arrow is to get from one screen to the next. Takes all the enjoyment out of this game. This has been mentioned before, and would be an easy fix, just a black or white outline around the arrow at the least!!!
Even if I was gonna rate this game a 1/5 I would change it to 5/5 just because you added color names to the switches, weapons, and enemies for us color blind folk. Thank you!
