I really like the characters of the card game. They really make me feel that I am in a different world. Well done.

Re-did this tutorial. I had to refresh some of the trigonometry by referring to some websites, but I got it. Thanks!

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

I'm glad you got it down :)

So far so good. The only thing is the Powerup one time was at the boarder and it was half out of the screen half in the screen. I know I have to fix the width or something.

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

One of the things to keep in mind is "white space", which is the area around an actor in the picture you used; Always try to crop your image to minimize that white space as it can cause those kinds of issues too.

When I grab the powerup, the enemies don't die. The screen shakes and thats about it. I have a bracket saying kill self. But when I change self and put in the pink and say actor, it turns to self automatically. So it kills the powerup but not the enemies. I am confused.

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

Use the pink block from the "actor of type/group" loop instead of the pink block from the scene -> actors palette.

This is a silly question but what is 44.1 KHz or 22.05 KHz. Is that how you measure sound quality?

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

I don't know much about it, but from what I do know, yes. Higher number = better quality, larger file size.

Ahh so thats what ActionScript 3 is. Apparently there is a tutorial on that. http://www.kongregate.com/games/GregoryCarlson/the-programmer-rpg

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

Yes. However, the newer Stencyl versions (aka "current" versions) are based on Haxe instead.

Nvm, i found it in the stencylforge. Its with a different name "8 way in bound movement."

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

Yeah, names for the 2.x and 3.x StencylForge don't talk well with each other :(.

Where do I get the background music you used in your game? Is it somewhere in the Stencylforge?

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

http://wrathgames.com/blog/free-development-resources/music/ is a great site for some royalty-free music. Also look up "cgMusic" to use math to create your own ;).

I re-did this and finished. I understood this far better the second time around.

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

Good :). One of the issues with this tutorial is simply the amount of updates Stencyl has done to simplify these things since version 1.x.

I just noticed, you do not have to create WASD as a separate control and do the extra coding. You can just select UP, and add the letter W. This should be mentioned in the updates section. But its still good to know the logic when we do it your way.

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

If others up-vote this comment, I'll add it in the updates (takes some time to do it, and I don't know how many will care). Excellent point though.

I don't understand the logic behind high score. Don't we want the high score to be score when its higher?

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

It's saying that if the current score is higher than the high score, then replace the high score with the current score.

I had to tweak the collision part (the colliding shape detector) a bit to make it work due to updates. It works, but hope it will not cause problems when I finish tutorial 4.

You have me curious: what tweaks did you need to do?

Found it! You can check width in Stencyl under collision tab of the actor.

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

If you are constantly changing the size, a draw text and/or print command can work in real time too ;)

Do we always have to open paint to find out what is the width of our actor? Is there a way to check in Stencyl?

Developer response from 0_Tuo_0

There are many ways, including the collision tab (I often create a new box collision and then cancel as it will show the actual size if I've adjusted the collision box currently on it).
